Jonathan Wilber is President and CEO of Master Key Consulting

On December 9, 2011, I had the privilege of interviewing Jonathan Wilber, a friend of nearly ten years and a successful businessman. The occasion of my visit to his office in Bethesda was the tenth anniversary of his company, Master Key Consulting, which he celebrated by inviting members of the Menominee Tribe of Wisconsin to perform at the National Museum of the American Indian. Jonathan is a proud member of the tribe and he wanted to share the culture and art of his people with his employees and visitors to the museum.

In this interview Jonathan Wilber talks about his company, the business of contracting for the federal government, what it means to be a Menominee Indian, and the pride in celebrating the success of the Master Key Consulting team.

Episode 5 of Talkabout features the audio from a presentation I gave on August 24th, 2011 at a meeting of the St. Louis Chapter of NAIFA, National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors.

I was invited by Walt Holley, Farmers Insurance Agent, the current president of NAIFA and a dear friend I met in 1977 when we attended the University Missouri - St. Louis together and worked at NPR station, KWMU.

Most small businesses use the internet as an economical way to attract new clients and provide customer support. Websites often don't reach their potential because they are poorly optimized for search engine traffic and customer engagement. Similarly, companies’ social media accounts on LinkedIn and Facebook, which can be helpful in attracting new customers, often don't because they are not properly set up with compelling profiles and maintained with compelling content. Romondo Davis is an Internet marketing consultant who helps small businesses maximize their web-based assets to capture new customers and engage existing customers.

 Learning Objectives:

Gain a clear understanding of what Internet marketing can do for small business.

Learn strategies and tactics for optimizing web content for search traffic.

Create a system for creating compelling content to grow business.

Detailed Outline:

What can Internet marketing do for my business? - The importance and power of search

Who is my audience? - Knowing my target market

How will they find me? - Search Engine Optimization (SEO)

What should they find on my website? - Design and organization

What about social media? Community and conversation

How will I stand out? - Compelling content

How will I stay focused? - Editorial calendar

How will I know this makes a difference? Track your stats

How do I stay current with internet marketing? - Read, listen, observe

My blog is at romondodavis.com.

Episode 1 of TalkAbout features Brett Newcomb, a Licensed Professional Counselor. We talk about how, in his first career as a high school teacher, he had an opportunity to provide critical counseling to some of his high school students. Through this, he realized over time that family therapy may be his real calling. As the interview continues, we talk about how his counseling career developed and now, in semi-retirement, he has become a podcast producer. Wrapping up the interview, we talk about how, through his observation of me demonstrating how to record and edit a podcast, he observed that I had ADD. I used the opportunity to have him analyze how I adapt to my challenge.
