City of the Dragon – Winter Apocalypse

After spending the last 3 days (14 hours a day pretty much) I feel ready to post finals..

Here are my 2 seasons, Its quite difficult to distinguish seasons during the night however – as a twist I’ve created an Apocalypse version where pretty much hell has broken loose, Its doomsday, fires starting, uncontrollable storms.

I think its time for a break and some sleep

Future City of the Dragon – Final Images is a post from Ronen Bekerman's 3D Architectural Visualization Challenge Sites

‘LONDONS’ creates 2 worlds appart in the same city. Based in a near future the project explores the development of the ‘hyper capital’ and the suburban ‘favelas’. Both exist to metaphorically and stylistically oppose the other.

VERSION 2 (main) is set in Autumn. It illustrates a typical Autumn day in London. A lot of attention was paid to the colours and grading in both the Spring and Autumn versions rather than any major modelling changes to achieve the contrast in seasons. The orangey and reds come to life in the city and add to the London smog across the skyline. The bad weather has even brought out a rescue helicopter. Details like splashes from the rain on the glass also feature.

VERSION 1. In version one of the final image I wanted to achieve a fresh English spring look which was still quite overcast. Small details like birds can be found upon closer inspection. I also wanted to do a spring version as most people are shying away from blue sky fresh look, which hopefully will contrast with the grittier autumn scene. The final image was made at 10k wide to show the level of detail in the modelling.

Here are my final images!

I’m calling these Urban Evolution – few cities in the world have empty space within their cores, which means that anything new requires the destruction of something old.  These two states exist simultaneously as a city constantly evolves.  There will always be some people in the city who feel like they are losing something at the same time as others feel like they are gaining something.

And very few changes in a city are simple.  In Autumn you may see things as on the decline, but those newly opened spaces will clear the way for something new and maybe even something you like better.  On the reverse side, in Spring you may see everything as bright and new, but those developments required the destruction of something old, something someone else will miss.

I’ve had a fun time creating these images and seeing everyone else develop theirs too.  Thanks Ronen for creating the competition, and good luck everyone!

Urban Evolution – Final is a post from Ronen Bekerman's 3D Architectural Visualization Challenge Sites

The building is located in Amsterdam. The exterior evening shot is my winter scene, in which I tried playing up the cool colors for a moody image with some bare deciduous trees hinting at the time of year.

The interior is my summer scene. In contrast with the exterior image, I intended this to remain very clean and white but with enough color and detail to keep it from feeling sterile.

I used Sketchup 8, Maxwell Render, and Photoshop for both images. For the exterior I used 3ds Max 2012 as well for the vegetation. Please feel free to comment
