I really like how Jekyll works. It’s very straightforward and allow me to blog within my editor of choice, Emacs. But it also forces me to blog in front of my laptop, instead of other mobile devices.

After much consideration, I decided to switch to WordPress, a more ubiquitous blog engine which has support on most major platforms. Even underdog like Windows Phone has official app from Automattic. I am using it right now to write this post.

I can’t guarantee I’ll write more posts. But at least I have one less excuse not to update my blog now.

今年仍是架在 Google App Engine 上，後端是用 Python 寫的，
前端是 HTML + JavaScript + CSS 。
不過今年的網站與 Facebook 整合較多，
而且多了成就系統。歡迎各位上去玩玩，蒐集各式各樣的成就。

NUS SoC offers many seminars. However, since I am not from SoC, I do
not receive automatic email notifications for these seminars and often
missed interesting ones. They do offer web pages for the
seminar schedules, but there are no corresponding RSS or Twitter
account to subscribe to. So I built Calennar ¹ to automatically
collect the seminar schedules and publish them in the iCalendar
format. Users can subscribe the URL above in their calendar client and
have the seminars show up in the calendar. The following are
screenshots of how seminar entries look like in Google Calendar.

By default, the URL above only returns seminars up to one year ago. So
if you access the URL on 8th May 2011, only seminars after 8th May
2010 will be returned. However, you can retrieve all of the seminars
² collected by Calennar by appending “all” after “nuscs”:

You can also retrieve seminars of certain year by appending the year
after “nuscs”, such as:

Recently,¹ I saw an awesome resume from CSS-Tricks. Based
on that resume, I created a new CV page of mine. My previous CV page
only contained a link to the PDF version of my CV. I have taken most
of the contents from the PDF version and populated into the HTML
one. However, the link to the PDF is still preserved. So if you prefer
reading PDF, please click here.

Another reason I have created this post is that I realized the keyword
resume is not available throughout my website. Google could not find
any page with resume. Though resume is different from CV, I
hope this post will better inform others about myself. ²

• Followed the Responsive Web Design. The website is readable
  both on desktop and mobile browsers, even
  Internet Explorer Mobile 7 (sort of.)
• Integrated Google Custom Search.
• Supported OpenSearch. Viewers can search my website directly
  from Google Chrome’s Omnibar, similar to this.
• Changed the font for headers to Ubuntu.
• Changed the font for contents to <span style=”text-decoration:line-through”>Vollkorn</span> Tinos.
• Updated favicon. Grace made the icon for me based on one of
  our marriage photos.
• Used DataTables instead of tablesorter to display
  table. Large tables, such as the one in
  Twitter user names with less than two characters, are
  paginated.
• Integrated Google’s 404 widget into the 404 page.
• Contents of the website are licensed under a
  Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0 Unported License.
• Various source code refactoring.

So I created a web widget to easily embed tweets. There’s currently no
name for this widget. I will just refer it as Embed Tweet. It is based
on Blackbirdpy, but
written in JavaScript and modified to fit closer to the current visual
style of Twitter.

To embed a tweet, you have to first find out the tweet ID of the tweet
you wish to embed. For example, the ID of the first tweet ever
http://twitter.com/jack/status/20
is 20. Then, simply add the following script to the location where you
want the tweet to show up. Make sure to replace 20 in the example to
the actual tweet ID. The tweet will automatically embed below the
script.

Users can switch off the automatic redirection in the options. If
disabled, users have to manually click the icon on the Ombibox to
redirect to Traditional Chinese (Taiwan) variant article. The default
is enabled (will automatically redirect.)
