Woah! sorry bout the impromptu month long break. Been dealing with all types of junk lately and haven’t had a lot of time for comics. But fear not. Updadtes will be resuming soon.

Just throwing down a new blog to try and explain some of the new happenings.

Most of you know that my life is mostly consumed with finding a way to pay the bills, finding a way to pay the bills with art, and working on personal art projects.

Some of you may know that Root Rot is not my only project. The problem is most of my other projects are “secret project”. Now when I say “secret projects” I don’t mean that they’re actually secret. What I mean is that these projects are long term and most them won’t be ready to show any body for at least a year or two. These “secret projects” consume a decent amount of my free time, and frankly, it’s starting to wear on me. I imposed on myself a lot of work with no recognition. I’m smashing my head against the wall all day with no one around to appreciated the pretty blood splatters I’m making on the wallpaper.
The only public thing I’m working on right now is Root Rot, and because it’s become this medium to train and push my abilities, it’ll probably never update with any consistency.

So I’ve come up with a few solutions to the problem.

1. Make some of my “secret projects” less secret.

2. New consistent comic.

NEW COMIC

This something that has been in the works for a while now. The idea was for it to be something relatively easy, something I could be proud of  and something I could put out on at least a weekly basis.

And what came out was Cleaver

Cleaver is going to be a bit different from the comic work that most you are used to seeing from me.
Cleaver will be:
- A bit cartoonier
- A bit goofier
- A bit more violent

And Cleaver on;y takes about 2-3 hours on average to make.
To put this into perspective, Root Rot takes around 24 hours at least to complete.

This way, I’ll be able to have consistent comic without taking huge chunks out of my day or interfering with Root Rot and my other projects.

There’s only a few strips up right now but three more should be up in the next two days and there’s 3 or 4 in the buffer as well. Either today or tomorrow I’ll be throwing it up on Ink outbreak and Top web comics, and maybe starting a few ads.

Also, you might of noticed the phrase “and other junk” as the sub title.
Basically the plans to have little short stories in published interstitially between episodes of cleaver. Something to keep things fresh and loose, and prevent tunnel vision. The first on you’ll see should be Home:

It’s about a little girl and a great big skull thing.

FOREST CITY

Forest city is a secret project that I have been working on for a while now. It’s a graphic novel in a painterly style. I’m super fuckin jazzed about it. If I had to describe it one sentence I’d say it’s kinda like a cross between The Warriors and the breakfast club.  The plan is to either finish the entire story and publish it as a graphic novel or to release it in 25-30 page issues. Either way it’ll be a while before it’s ready for release. Most of the pages are still in the sketch stage and none of them have been colored yet.

My plan is to make a tumblr or something that I can update periodically with work-in-progress images and panels and concept art and stuff. That way I’ll be able to get some of that feedback and recognition that I thrive on so much. It should help the comic expand and make working on it much easier.

The blog should be up and running some time late november – early december.

BLEAK

Bleak is an animation project that I mention I was starting about a year ago. Since then it has undergone several large set backs and delays. I’ve decided to come at it from an entirely different approach. I’m going to focus my efforts in completing the basic animatic myself  and use that as a way to draw other animators into the project. Meanwhile bleak will also have a blog that I’ll be posting animatic frames and concept stuff on.

That should also be showing up around early december.

I think that’s everything for now. I’ve got a few other projects but they’re not really a priority at the moment.

Well it seems I missed the dead line. Had to work some extra shifts at work this week. But It’ll all be finished up tonight after work.

I’ve been such a bad comic guy, everyone.

I think this might of been the longest wait time between pages since the comic started.
It seems a bit more troubles juggling real life responsibilities this summer than I expected.
But, it’s also been about for or five months since I stayed up all night to finish a project.

As of now I’m going to start setting hard deadlines for Root Rot.
I think I’m gonna try for Wednessdays.

Next page is due August 22.
