In an interview with MTV Chris Evans, a.k.a. Johnny Storm (The Human Torch) in the Fantastic Four film franchise, is quoted saying he doesn't think a third film is in the books at Fox.

"I'm pretty sure we won't do [another] one," Evans said. "I'm assuming that one is a closed book."

Considering the first film made over $154 million and the second one made over $131 million it seems weird to me they wouldn't continue the franchise no matter how poorly both films were received by critics and fans. Comic book films have proven they don't need to be good to turn a profit; Daredevil made $102M, Batman Forever made $184M and Ghost Rider made $115M. These numbers tell me they just need to work a little harder on the script, cut out the corny dialogue and kill off Jessica Alba in the first scene and a winner is in the bag.

Evans continued, "After the first one was released we got wind of potential titles and plots [almost immediately], and I've heard nothing from anyone at Fox [yet]. We had all planned on doing [another] one but if there were going to be a third I think a week after the second one was released we would have heard."

Sorry folks, what he says does sound about right.

Fishburne as the Silver Surfer, not My First Choice

Oddly enough this is something we have touched upon the last two weeks on the podcast and now BlackFilm has asked director Tim Story just why exactly he chose <a href=http://www.ropeofsilicon.com/profile.php?id=967"">Laurence Fishburne to voice the character of the Silver Surfer in Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer.

Story told the site, "I had the opportunity to speak with Lawrence months before I started shooting the movie and all we talked about was Galactus and the Silver Surfer. He was a complete fan. So when it came the time to cast someone, his name came up immediately. Besides, who, aside from James Earl Jones, has a more powerful voice? He was perfect and I didnt have to convince anyone; and him being a fan of the material was icing on the cake."

Here's the deal, the voice doesn't need to be powerful it needs to be effective in the context of the film. Granted, I have not yet seen this film, but I have seen the trailers and the clips and hearing Fishburne's big voice coming out of this tiny man, who is played by the wirey Doug Jones by the way, just doesn't seem to fit. Then again, all the comedy and silliness we have seen in the trailers doesn't fit either, but that is a different story. Also, why bring up James Earl Jones? Was he considering him for the part? Darth Vader presence vs. skinny silver dude on surf board. Seriously, it doesn't add up.

The jury is still out on whether or not Fish's voice will work as the intergalactic herald, and I will go in as I always do, with an open mind, but I am not holding my breath.

Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer hits theaters on June 15, I just wonder will press be invited to screen it?

You can check out a clip from the film in which the Surfer talks below, it is shockingly bad.

However, the Transformers spot is much better and even gives us a few new scenes and a listen to Bumblebee's voice. It also distracts us from the sh*tty international posters that have been popping up all over the place such as this one.

Yikes, I hadn't watched this clip that premiered on NBC for Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer until now and I just have a few questions:

When did Jessica Alba get a fivehead?

Will Jessica Alba ever be able to act?

Who thought Laurence Fishburne's voice would work for the Silver Surfer?<?li>

After the wretched Spider-Man 3 superhero fans better hope Fantastic Four can pull off a miracle but after this clip I don't see it happening. This clip might have some cool action, but the Alba factor and the fact that Fishburne's voice does not work at all. Don't believe me? Check it out for yourself below.

Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer hits theaters on June 15. I wonder if they will screen it for the press. Then again, we always have Transformers to look forward to.

Well fanboys here you go, a new look at the Silver Surfer as he... well... surfs. The Silver Surfer is making his big screen appearance this summer in the sequel Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer set to hit theaters on June 15.

The Silver Surfer is described as the enigmatic, intergalactic herald who comes to Earth to prepare it for destruction. As the Silver Surfer races around the globe wreaking havoc the Fantastic Four (Reed, Sue, Johnny and Ben) must unravel the mystery of the Silver Surfer and confront the surprising return of their mortal enemy, Dr. Doom, before all hope is lost.

Also, that little comic book cover you see with this article is the cover of the "Fantastic Four" comic that will be given away tomorrow (May 5, 2007) in celebration of National Comic Book Day. So, for all you die-hards, check out your favorite local comic book store bright and early on Saturday, May 5 for a chance to score a free "Fantastic Four" Silver Surfer comic book. Oh boy... where is my sleeping bag!!!

Unfortunately we don't get any new looks at the villains besides the peek above of The Thing picking on Dr. Doom, but there is a larger look at the Fantasticar and a bunch of pics of Alba, which, let's admit it, it's better to look at her then watch her try to act.

Fishburne Voicing Silver Surfer

Internet rumors had Laurence Fishburne voicing the mysterious villain Galactus in Fox's summer release Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer but word comes in from Variety that while Fishburne will be voicing a character it isn't Galactus, instead he will be voicing the role of the Silver Surfer. Silver Surfer, who rides his surfboard through space, is the herald for the planet-destroying Galactus.

If you are wondering what will happen with Galactus Variety does say he is in the film, but apparently Fox isn't sure if he will speak.

Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer hits theaters on June 15 and is listed as sequel #8 of the summer in our Summer Movie Preview.

Okay, so in Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer the Fantastic Four finally get their wheels, which is called the Fantasticar and apparently it is going to be manufactured by Dodge. So, does this mean the four got together and looked at bids from all the major car makers and Dodge came out on top?

Chrysler has a mini feature on their site in regards to the car and it says this:

Superheroes need super wheels, said The Detroit News. The heroic quartet of the Fantastic FourThe Thing, Human Torch, Invisible Woman and Mr. Fantastic, will star in Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, which Twentieth Century Fox will release June 15. The vehicle of choice for the Fantastic Four is the one-of-a-kind Fantasticar. In the movie, it is capable of speeds of up to 550 mph and can reach an altitude of 30,000 feet. Fantasticar can separate into three sections. Each one has deployable wings and can maintain the same speed and performance as the entire craft. And it has a HEMI. Among the Dodge cues are the brands signature crosshair grille and headlights. Designed by Tim Flattery, a Michigan native and 1987 graduate of the Center for Creative Studies in Detroit, the Fantasticar was inspired by the shape of a manta ray. The Ram logo appears on the exterior and interior of the vehicle. Also getting some screen time in Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer are the Dodge Ram Mega Cab and Dodge Durango.

There you have it, the Fantasticar has a HEMI... Who the hell cares?
Someone better jump on these Russian sites and quick if they want them to stop nabbing all the leaked images, because there are Pirates 3 pics, Spidey 3 pics and now Fantastic Four 2 character posters floating around all over the place.

Filmz.ru is the latest to nab some special goodies as they have a collection of five character posters for Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer online. Either way, click on either Jess or Silver below to check 'em out. Fantastic Four 2 hits theaters on June 15th. Also, thanks to JoBlo for the heads up on these.

Doug Jones Talks 'Hellboy 2' and 'Silver Surfer'

Recently speaking with Alfonso Cuaron he told me Guillermo del Toro refered to his script for Hellboy: The Golden Army was his most personal story and in an interview with IF Magazine Doug Jones who played Abe Sapien in the first Hellboy and the Silver Surfer in the upcoming Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer seems to feel the same way saying, "I loved, LOVED, reading the script."

While Jones played the part of Abe in the first pic it was David Hyde Pierce that voiced the character, in the sequel del Toro has already said that won't be the case as Jones will finally be heard and he seems pumped:

You can expect more from Abe Sapien, you can expect a larger role from the first one, you can expect him to maybe wield a weapon, you can expect him to show you a style of fighting in hands on with bad guys that you've never seen or heard of before... You can expect more buddy scenes with Hellboy, and you can expect more screen time and getting to know him."

Jones also leaked a small bit of news on the Fantastic Four film when asked about Galactus and whether the character will be involved in the film.

For those like me that have no clue who Galactus is, was, or will be, I did a little research and found out he is called the Devourer of Worlds or Ravager of Planets, which means the obvious. Where the Silver Surfer comes in is that he is one of Galactus' heralds and to be a Herald of Galactus means you seek out new worlds for Galactus to consume.

The big question is whether or not the planet-eater will play a part in the upcoming film and the question has been skirted, but Jones isn't exactly saying no when he says, "What about Galactus? Again, no one has briefed me on what I can and can't say, but I'm going to play it safe and say that it would be difficult to introduce the Silver Surfer without Galactus having some kind of presence in the film."

Without saying yes it sounds like he pretty much said it.

If you are reading this today you must not be hanging with family just yet. I am just about to head out the door, but thought I would give you all a little something to play with to fill in the holiday gaps. However, I hope it is a short gap because this isn't going to take up too much time.

First off Fox has launched the official site for Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, which launched its trailer in theaters this weekend with Night at the Museum and I am sure after Christmas will be available online. As for the site there isn't a ton to do other than register for updates, check out the synopsis, check out the logo (see above) and a slightly different look at the Silver Surfer (see below) than the one we debuted here a couple days ago. To check the site out click here. Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer hits theaters on June 15, 2007.

Next we have the official site for New Line's Hairspray, which hits theaters on July 20, 2007. The new site features a musical flash introduction, a blog and a few photos. To check that one out click here.

Finally, also from New Line, is the official site for The Number 23 starring Jim Carrey, Virginia Madsen, Danny Huston, Logan Lerman and Rhona Mitra. This one already has some bad buzz around it after Jim Carrey fired his manager following the production and this comes even though the script by Fernley Phillips received great praise to begin with. Who is to say though, you be the judge and you check out the new site by clicking here. The Number 23 hits theaters on February 23, 2007.

UPDATE: You can check out the hi-res version RIGHT HERE.

USA Today has done it again as they have debuted the first look at the Silver Surfer to be played by Doug Jones from Fantastic Four: Rise of The Silver Surfer, but Fox has already told us that they will be dropping off a nice hi-res version tomorrow morning so stay tuned.

The article in relation to the picture you see above goes on to say:

With computer-generated imagery techniques similar to those used to create Gollum in The Lord of the Rings, the slippery Surfer, voiced by Doug Jones, "will look somewhere between gun metal and fluid metallics so you can see the body motion, the breathing, the muscle tone, the mood," says Marvel Studios CEO Avi Arad.

The Surfer's mood is key to the story. After striking a deal with the evil Galactus to save his planet, the once-human Surfer wreaks havoc throughout the cosmos. "He is a highly emotional being, trapped inside fluid metal," Arad says.

Hey look it's Mr. Fantastic in a the Fantasticar from the upcoming Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer as the first pic of the "auto" is unveiled in USA Today.

The article goes on to say that it ranks right up there with the Batmobile and Ghost Rider's flaming motorcycle as the wheels of choice among comic devotees. I never heard this thing compared to the Batmobile, but since I am no comic geek I would have no idea. Nevertheless, the article also tells us the following:

In the movie, the Fantasticar is powered by a proton accelerator, can hover, fly at 500 mph and break into separate flying machines. And while the 4,000-pound model doesn't move without the assistance of a crane or casters, it's still an impressive piece of space-age polymer.

Does that interest you? Then click here or on the teaser image above to check out the full-sized image and the rest of the article.

Howard is set to test his pipes as he will sing the country icon's songs and play guitar in the drama. Born to sharecroppers in Mississippi, Pride dreamed of playing professional baseball. He played in the Negro Leagues before joining the Army. After being discharged, he moved to Montana where he worked in construction and continued to play minor league ball. After moving to Nashville, he became a country sensation; between 1966 and 1984, 51 of his 54 singles cracked the country top 10. Although his achievements occurred during the civil rights movement, black America did not celebrate him and Pride struggled with the knowledge that many of his fans were white and racist.
First for the quicky, ComingSoon.net and SuperHeroHype have confirmed that the title for the upcoming Fantastic Four sequel has changed slightly from Fantastic Four and The Silver Surfer to Fantastic Four: Rise of The Silver Surfer. The film is set to hit theaters on June 15, 2007.

The second update is a little bigger as a scooper told SuperHeroHype that "Prison Break" star Dominic Purcell appeared on New York radio station WPLJ this morning and was asked if he was up for the role of Bruce Banner, aka The Incredible Hulk, for the upcoming Marvel Studios The Incredible Hulk.

Superhero Hype! has an MP3 of the interview. I didn't listen to it, but the site says that he "didn't confirm or deny his involvement but the tone of his voice is pretty much a giveaway that he is at least in talks."

So, the Internet has been going on and on about Doug Jones (the guy that played Abe Sapien in Hellboy) and his rumored involvement in Fantastic Four and the Silver Surfer. Of course, the rumor being that he will be playing the part of the Silver Surfer.

Well, during the Comic-Con panel for the upcoming Picturehouse release Pan's Labyrinth Jones fielded a question from one of the fans asking whether or not he will in fact be the Silver Surfer. He answered the question in a cryptic manner, but I think you can draw your own conclusions.

Here is a snippet of his July 9th post:

I've been going crazy prepping this thing. Just got back from Vancouver, which is of course where we will be filming the movie, and things are shaping up. It's the hard part of the phase where I have to make the ..'s work. Even with 100+ mil, there's never enough money. Looking at the plan for the new Baxter Building interior and it's going to be hot. We're going more high tech and we're giving Reed Richards and the gang more gadgets this time around. The "4" logo will be everywhere as we are used to seeing it. They are a corporation now.

I'm going to use some looks that have been inspired from more recent comics, like in "The Ulimate Exstinction" and a little from the "Ultimate Fan Four" series. I know what you're thinking "Kirby, Kirby, Kirby!" There will be much props given to Kirby throughout the movie.

What I'm really excited about is the Fantasticar. It's coming guys in all it's glory. Wait until you see it. It's going to split in pieces and all that. Johnny and Ben fight over who should fly it. All the fun you expect.

Will the Silver Surfer be all CGI?

For a long time we have heard that a Silver Surfer movie would cost a lot of money due to all the special effects that would be necessary to bring the character to the big screen. Perhaps that is why Fox has chosen to give the "silver" one a chance in theaters as a character in the upcoming sequel Fantastic Four and the Silver Surfer, scheduled for theaters next year.

Well, it seems those special effect stories are even bigger than we may have originally thought as Moviehole brings news that the Silver Surfer may only need a voice. He may be a 100-percent CGI character.

FF2 director Tim Story had a chat with the site and here is a clip:

"The Surfer will be a new CGI design being developed especially for the movie. It's going to be incredible."

My opinion. I am not a big fan of all-CGI characters. No matter how realistic, unless they are in an all-CGI film they still look fake.

It seems Jessica Alba opening up a bit about the upcoming Fantastic Four 2 has prompted another Fantastic Four cast member to open up a bit as Ioan Gruffudd mentions how he heard Alba talking about the flick to ComingSoon.net.

"I have not seen the script or read it. I don't know exactly what the story line is. I know Jessica Alba has been talking about it quite a bit and I believe that the premise is Silver Surfer is the new character that comes into it," he told the site.

Gruffudd then set the record straight on Dr. Doom -- Julian McMahon, who played the character in the first film, will be back too. "I'm sure he'll be just as ambiguous. Is he on our side or isn't he?"

Gruffudd does talk a bit more about his experience on the first film and his excitement for a second, click here for the rest of the interview.

In an interview over at USA Today Jessica Alba dropped tiny bit of info on the upcoming franchise sequel Fantastic Four 2, here is what she had to say:

We start Fantastic Four 2 in August. The four of us learn that there are other people out there with superpowers, and the Silver Surfer appears as a villain/hero. And another villain comes in as well. My character, Susan Storm, has another love triangle and may use a power people haven't seen before. She's the most powerful of the four.

'Guys' Dies, 'Fantastic Four 2' Moves

Only seven days ago I made a small quip at how the battle versus Transformers and Fantastic Four 2 would pan out as they both shared a July 4, 2007 release. Well, my little question was answered today as The Hollywood Reporter brings us word that the comic book sequel has been moved to June 15, 2007 much in the way the original film avoided competition with War of the Worlds in 2005.

On top of this move we also learn that has halted preproduction on the big-budget, sci-fi comedy Used Guys, a pic that was set to begin filming on June 11 starring Ben Stiller and Jim Carrey. The studio was quoted by THR saying, "Due to scheduling issues, production is being delayed on Used Guys ... until sometime next year... The Jay Roach-directed film requires a long prep for its futuristic settings, and both actors have films scheduled for later in the year. All the parties remain committed to making the picture when time permits."

That is the quote, but THR also goes on to say that sources close to the project insist that the $112-budgeted film is dead, at least in its current incarnation with Stiller and Carrey toplining. The pic centers around the idea of a women-ruled world where men are bought and sold as sex objects.

Guess we will have to wait and see what happens to that one, but it doesn't look good.

Silver Surfer in 'Fantastic Four 2'?

Well, Variety has spilled the beans on a possible Fantastic Four 2 character addition as the Silver Surfer might make an appearance depending on which script Fox decides on.

I am not a comic book guy so I don't know a whole lot about this fellow, but Variety says that he physically resembles the liquid metal villain from Terminator 2 and soars through the universe on his board, has evolved into one of Marvel's more sophisticated comicbook heroes.

We have all heard Silver Surfer talk before, but the studio has held off on the feature due to the amount of special effects necessary to bring the character to live.

For those of you anxious to see the wave-rider the time may be near as the Fantastic Four 2 storyline is being finalized and the decision comes down to X2 scribe Mark Frost's script and Don Payne's script. Payne's script features the Surfer and he is also the screenwriter that penned Fox's My Super Ex-Girlfriend for the studio due out this summer.

Variety sources report that Payne's script is the frontrunner, yet the studio spokesman denied that anything was set as Fox wants to be sure a guest-starring stint doesn't wash out future feature plans.

Fantastic Four 2 is currently slated for a July 4, 2007 release.

Jessica Alba Chats Up 'Fantastic Four 2'

I will admit, I partially enjoyed the first Fantastic Four. Oh yeah, it had problems and plenty of them, but on a whole I thought it was entertaining. But, of course, I would like it if it had a much more serious nature about it and who know, maybe Fantastic Four 2 will do just that. However, with director Tim Story at the helm I don't expect all comedy and poor one-liners to be removed.

All that said, Jessica Alba, a.k.a. The Invisible Woman, revealed some sequel bits to MTV. First off saying that Dr. Doom (played by Julian McMahon in the first film) will not be back, but Alba was tight-lipped on how the new baddie will be. As for whether or not comic book fans will be pleased with the sequel this is what she said:

"We're making the right changes," Alba said, responding to detractors of the first flick. "It's gonna be an amped-up version, this next one. It's gonna be faster, and it's gonna be a more intense story line that kind of references the comic a bit more."

She then said something that wouldn't necessarily make me happy since it seems kinda hokey, but she said, "Maybe [we'll have] the Fantastic Car... which I'm excited about."

A "Fantastic Car"? She is, of course, referring to the flying vehicle that was featured in the Fantastic Four comics, but I think they need to focus on the story and let the added effects take a back seat.

Fantastic Four 2 is expected to begin filming this summer for a July 4, 2007 release date, pitting it up against the live-action feature adaptation of The Transformers.
