This is kitty Carmen and she is currently having a nap on our bed, it's Friday and the world is a wonderful place.

But there is a back story, there's always a back story and this one began on a rather bleak and windy Saturday evening a bit over a month ago. My wife and I have always been a cat loving family, however after losing our beloved Samantha to cancer we have remained a cat free house since that fateful day.

Well this Saturday the cat free house status was going to be rocked to its core as I sat watching the TV I noticed from the corner of my eye a beautiful little cat in our back yard. I immediately leaped to my feet to investigate this the most cutest of visitors and to ask what it wanted of which it replied with requests for food and pats and in that order too.

After complying to the given requests we invited the little fellow inside, it was obvious that this was a well cared for pet that must have a loving family and live some where close by, but what the hey it was only visiting.

After a lovely night of pats we bid our little buddy goodnight thinking how wonderful it was that it choose to visit us not ever even contemplating it would be back, and it would be.

The next night our buddy was back and the night after that and after that, and soon the visits became longer and the absences less until it seemed like we had ourselves a cat but of course we didn’t, we had somebody else cat and we were going to need to find out who's.

Fast forward to Monday this week and the day of reckoning had arrived, we did not want to give up our little buddy but that was the point, it was not our cat so off to the vet we went. I might add at this point that Kitty Carmen was none too happy to be going to the vet either but it had to be done.

Yes we were right kitty Carmen did indeed have a home and she was micro chipped so finding her owners was only a computer search away and indeed thats what happened as we left the vet once again cat less and shedding just a few tears.

We were able to telephone the owners and to allay our fears that she was OK and that should be the end of the story but cats choose their owners and her current ones were more than willing to let kitty Carmen decide and so the hope began that maybe our little Buddy would once again visit. By Wednesday evening with no sight of her we resigned our selves to the fact that she had made her decision and that we could always visit her.

I never gave up hope that she would once gain visit us and I don't know what's going to happen in to the future but what I do know is that you wish very hard and never stop believing that wishes and dreams do come true.

When its time to evict the tenants in the roof, what to do with the possums

I live in a leafy Melbourne suburb and I just recently evicted some long time borders from my property. I have lived in my current house for the last 13 years, it was built in the early 1930’s and is a comfortable 4 bedroom home just perfect for my wife, our cat Samantha as well as my needs, but it would appear a family of possums found it a desirable abode as well.

UPDATE: Sadly our cat Samantha passed away last December, so although our house is still perfect for my wife and I, there is a pending vacancy for a new cat to be joining us soon .So to all you cats out there or even all those cats yet to be cats start preparing your resumes the hunt for a new supreme ruler is about to begin in earnest. Samantha found us so that is also an option.

The possum according to Wikipedia is
“is any of about 69 small to medium-sized arboreal marsupial species native to Australia, New Guinea, and Sulawesi (and introduced to New Zealand and China). The name derives from their resemblance to the opossums of the Americas. The term "possum" is also used in North America as a short form of "Opossum".

I have nothing against possums at all, and apart from the previous few months cohabited with them, they never really worried me at all, they were uninvited guests, that for the most part were unobtrusive. I was not worried that possums habituated the roof space. Well not until they started to act up, outstay their welcome, fight and run throughout the ducting and vents of our heater and the finale act that lead to the need to evict they urinated and defecated through the ducts.

That was it they had to go, this was not the first run in we had with possums, they had always been part of our garden, we had cared for the sick amazed at their agility and even buried their dead in the past. We were not beyond leaving a spare apple out at night, but this was too much they had outstayed there’re welcome.

But how does one get rid of possums they are “As a native species in Australia, possums are protected by Australian regulations, even when they reside in urban neighbourhoods, and cannot be baited. If captured, regulations stipulate that they must be released within a small radius of the capture site, as they are territorial creatures.”

Well preventative measures such preventing them entering the roof space such as blocking off their entrance points and building a possum nesting box are the only real alternatives. This is something that is beyond the ability of many of us myself included so I called for some help.

Update your Nexus S Smart Phone to Ice Cream Sandwich Now :

I have been part of the Android scene for a little over a year now but have fallen for the OS with a plume. I purchased my entry Android device in December 2010 a Samsung Galaxy Tab 7” and soon followed up this up Nexus S smartphone and not much after that with an ASUS Transformer 10.1”tablet.

All of these devices at one time have run the latest and greatest versions of Android, but since Android is a fast evolving animal it always seems you are out of date.

I have been running Froyo , Ginger Bread and Honeycomb but come December 2011 Google’s Android again evolved and Ice Cream Sandwich was born a unification of Honeycomb and Ginger Bread that brought together both the phone and tablet OS in to a one size fits all release.

The first device to use this latest incarnation is of course the Nexus Galaxy a naked Android phone made by Samsung but directed by Google the creators of the beast that is Android an introduction to the newest member of the OS family a Google’s platform preview vehicle if you will.

But and yes but being a truly naked install there is a another phone that you can instantly update to this latest and greatest release and that is the Nexus S , the former incarnation of Google’s platform preview vehicle.

So if want Ice Cream Sandwich on your Samsung Nexus S but don't want to wait on the update to push out over the air?

This is for the GSM version only :

Grab the OTA package here

*Rename it to update.zip.

*Copy it over to the internal storage on your Nexus S.

*Power off, then hold volume up and power to reboot to the bootloader.

*Using the volume key to navigate, select recovery, then use the power button to confirm

*When you see the warning triangle and arrow, hold the power button and tap volume up. You'll see a menu.

*From the menu, select "apply update from /sdcard", and choose update.zip from the list.

*When finished, choose "reboot system now"
