Lola and Roxanne are seal point Siamese sisters. They are about 8 years old. They are very shy and take a while to trust, but then they are very friendly. Both are spayed, and very quiet. They really need a home that doesn’t have other animals or at least other large or aggressive animals and no small children who may tease them. They are strictly inside cats. “Road to Safety” Contest Honors North Fulton Students

Students buckle up for safety in Roswell

With more laws popping up regarding car safety, it is only appropriate that teens jump on the bandwagon and address the issue, too. They’ve done just that, and they will be recognized as a result.

Teens in the area have entered the “Road to Safety” video contest, which gave driving age students the opportunity to demonstrate road safety practices on two-minute videos. The winners will be chosen from most high schools in North Fulton including Roswell, Johns Creek, North View, Chattahoochee and Centennial. This is an expansion of last year’s program, which only included Milton and Alpharetta High Schools.

Tim Enloe of AccessMilton.com will host an event on February 1^st that will honor the winners and runners up that will be announced during a ceremony at Alpharetta High School. They will be chosen from more than two dozen video submissions.

This year’s first, second and third place winning videos will be highlighted on AccessMilton.com over a period of several weeks. The winning video will be featured at various events at participating high schools.

The ceremony will take place at 6 pm and will include food and entertainment from area sponsors including Music Matters and Shane’s Rib Shack. Did anyone you know enter the contest, Rosemont residents?

Super Bowl Entertaining the Green Way

Who will win Super Bowl XLVI?

It’s almost time for the Super Bowl as you know, and many of you are likely already preparing for it. What is your plan for that day? As you watch the Patriots take on the Giants at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, remember that just because you’re not watching the game live (or are you?), doesn’t mean you can’t have a rockin’ party here in Roswell as you watch the game at home with friends.

While your main focuses will be entertaining and rooting for your team of choice, it would be great if another could be on making your Super Bowl party as green as possible (while also saving some green!). The greener you make it, the less wasteful and expensive it will be (meaning less clean up for you). So what do you do to make your menu greener? How about making your chili yourself? It’s inexpensive AND yummy. Also, nix the plastic cups.

One more tip to consider is putting your bets on a large, washable surface with a dry erase marker. This saves you money on poster boards and eliminates the waste it would create.

If you are visiting our area, I’d like to introduce you to the wonderful historic town of Roswell, Georgia. Lined with exquisite old architecture, Roswell has the charm of a small town with access to the big city of Atlanta. Look around and you will see a variety of restaurants, many stores (like those situated all down Canton Street), and people taking historic and ghost tours around town. If you’d like to have a low-key day, ,there are also movie theaters, galleries, and you can go antiquing around town.

Roswell is the first bicycle friendly city in Georgia – awarded that distinction by the League of American Bicyclists for demonstrating a commitment to all aspects of cycling. Around town, there are national bike races, a children’s bicycle safety rodeo, a Mayor’s Ride and a weekly 26-mile bike ride.

As a New Yorker, I’m very picky about my pizza. Who could blame me? That’s one of the big things the city is known for! That’s not to say that the Atlanta area doesn’t have its share of good pizza places, too; it’s just taken me a while to find one that reaches my expectations. Yes, I’m a pizza snob. A big one.

Did You Hear the Buzz? Honey Helps Calm the Flu!

Take advantage of bee products all year long

It is now officially winter and with it comes the sniffling and sneezing – signs that the flu has set up camp at home and at work. While it is important to take precautionary measures to protect yourself – like avoiding directly touching door handles and washing your hands frequently – it is also necessary to talk about that inevitable time when you are stricken with the flu.

You won’t see bees hanging around for a few months, but you can still use their honey all year long to help make you more comfortable during the times when you are feeling under the weather. Here are a few uses for honey to keep in mind this season. Honey can be used as:

A skin moisturizer: Once you’ve been blowing your nose pretty consistently, your skin will get raw and dry. Use 4 tablespoons of honey, a few tablespoons of flour and 2 egg whites and you’ve got an effective way to bring back the moisture.
Sore throat treatment: Add it to tea or mix it with lemon juice and you’ve got a relieving combination that will take away some of the pain.
Energy booster: You can mix honey and water for a natural energy drink.
Immune system booster: A teaspoon of honey in combination with your morning vitamins will help increase the vitamins’ effectiveness.

Watch the Peach Drop in Atlanta for the 23rd Time

Ring in the new year at Underground Atlanta

For those of you who live in the Atlanta area, you’ve gotten very familiar with what drops on New Year’s Eve downtown– a peach! The Peach Drop is the Southeast’s largest New Year’s Eve celebration, and in 2012 it will be bigger and better than ever! Taking place at Underground Atlanta downtown, visitors can enjoy a full 14 hours of festivities starting at11 am on New Year’s Eve.

The event will be headlined by popular classic rock band Kansas– the group that spawned the hits “Dust in the Wind” and “Carry On Wayward Son.” They will entertain the audience as they anticipate the drop of the iconic 800 pound peach.

The festivities will begin with family-friendly activities followed by live performances on the main stage. Besides Kansas, you will also hear from Jimi Cravity, Pato Margetic, Isaiah Hill and the Georgia Power Trio.
