My work laptop is crap. For some reason it will not open my copy of Adobe Photoshop Elements 7 and sometimes I have to make do with what tools are available online. Luckily there are some very, very cool ones and one of those is Dumpr. I’m going to talk only about one of the Dumpr functions in this post and revisit the site in subsequent posts. I think you will enjoy the cool functionality of this site.

The first thing you need to do is head to Dumpr.net. On the main page click on Photo-to-Sketch.

From RoyalTutorial Images

This will take you to the next area where you can select your photo. Here you can upload a photo, pull in a photo from a url or link directly to your Flickr account. I link directly to my Flickr account because I can also upload my new creation right away. So here I click on a photo from my photostream. The only issue is that you can only select from the past 40 or 50 recent photos.

From RoyalTutorial Images

After I select my photo I click continue and instantly my photo is rendered into a very cool looking sketch. I’ve noticed that sketches of people work much better than other items. Each one I made up of my daughter Eva worked fantastic. When I tried her teddy bear it didn’t work very well at all.

From RoyalTutorial Images

Once the photo has been rendered into a sketch Dumpr.net gives you a ton of options with which to share your cool creation. There are social bookmarks, the ability to send it as a card, or just e-mail it as an attachment or even upload directly to your Flickr account (required that you authorize Dumpr.net as an entity able to upload to your account.). I choose to upload to Flickr and the photo appears right in my photo stream.

How to add your watermark to a photo in a few easy steps.

Adding a watermark to your photos can be done with some of the high end photo editing programs, however you can do it yourself with PhotoShop Elements very easily. First, get yourself your logo as a .PNG with a transparent background.

From RoyalTutorial

Open that up in Elements. So now you have your logo open in Elements.

From RoyalTutorial

Then open your image. I take photos every day and this is the first year that I’ve started adding a watermarked logo to my images. I’ll use this photo of the sky as my example. I then pull that image into Elements.

From RoyalTutorial

The next thing you are going to need to do is drag the logo into the image of the sky. Make sure the image of the logo is the one that you are on then switch to the pointer tool, click and drag that image onto the Sky image. The logo will appear on the sky photo as a new layer.

From RoyalTutorial

Now take a look at the layers. Layers are your friend, they are not scary and you can do so much with them.

From RoyalTutorial

Now position the logo somewhere on your photo by clicking and moving the layer with the pointer tool. You can also stretch it out so that it is the size you would like it to be. I like my logo to be prominent so I usually put it as a large size in the corner of the image. Once my logo is where I would like it I then change the opacity of the logo layer. This gives it that watermarked or ghosted look. The opacity is on a slider so just move it to where you are comfortable and what looks good to you. I start at, and mostly stay at, 50%.

From RoyalTutorial

And then I save my image.

From RoyalTutorial

Now you are done, and you have a great watermarked and branded photo.

Adding effects to your photos can seem daunting at times however with Rollip all that can be easily automated. I’ve been using Rollip to occasionally make my photos look old or pop with color with the click of a button.

Using Rollip is very easy. You go to the site and you set up a quick account, e-mail and password are all that is needed. From there you select the filter that you would like to use. There are over 40 different filters available. Select the filter by clicking on it.

Once you’ve done that you simple need to upload one of your photos. I uploaded 4MB images and they were rendered very quickly. Here is my original image.

Then I decided to use one of the Classic effects.

The Drawing Styles one was very cool as well.

I wanted to add Extra Character so I choose one of those effects too.

And one last one I did was the Styled Lenses to give the image a softer tone.

There are many great options in this free program that will allow you to upload images and then see them at the size of 600 X 400 or so. If you want to get a high res photo back then you would need to pay for some credits. You can buy 15 credits for $2.99 and Rollip will process 15 high res photos for you. Not a bad deal to make your great photos even better.

If you use Rollip to add effects to your images leave a link to the images in a comment below. I can’t wait to see what you create.

A very simple and free tutorial on how to screen capture any web site, no matter how big it is!

I work with a lot of web sites and sometimes you want to create an “advertise here” page, or simply give a screenshot of what a web site looks like. An easy option is to click the “Print Screen” button on your keyboard, but that will only grab what’s visible on your screen. There is an awesome plugin for FireFox called “Screengrab”, that gives you the option to screen capture a whole web page, visible view or the full page with one click. You can save as a PNG or simply copy and paste into a design editor.

1.) Head over to Add-ons for Firefox and download the plugin for free.

2.) Click “Add to FireFox” to install the plugin.

3.) Restart your browser and you are ready to go!

Need to convert your amazing Photoshop PSD design into an HTML design? These resources can help you out.

Top PSD to HTML Sites In the past few years many blogs and sites have been created. Naturally, there has been a demand for web designers, developers, and coders to provide a range of professional services. One of the services that has been constantly in demand is PSD to HTML/XHTML/CSS conversion.

Now, in the past it wasn’t so easy to find a professional web designer who could code for you. And as for those who aspired to do their own coding, they realized it’s not simple to do it by themselves. Fortunately, nowadays there are companies online that offer PSD to HTML/XHTML/CSS coding. These sites also have other services, such as search engine optimization, easy integration to Wordpress, Blogger, and Joomla, and others.

REVIEW:

W3 Markup has been around since 2003. Some of their satisfied clients include owners and designers of websites and companies. W3 Markup provides PSD to HTML/XHTML conversion, and they always make sure that they never miss a single detail on your original Adobe Photoshop/Illustrator designs. Additionally they can include custom functions for your page to make it easier to manage. W3 Markup has a confidentiality agreement—web designers who are into outsourcing can trust the company not to disclose any details about them or their project. And since W3 Markup’s office is in the US, you can easily give them a call if you have any problems or concerns.
