The Naked Bike Ride

So this happened last Saturday night, starting in downtown Portland. After missing the festivities for a variety of reasons the last three years (forgetting when it was, bike being in the shop, chickening out) I finally said screw it, and did it. I won’t say it was one of the best experiences of my life, but it was definitely one of the most surreal, and strangely pleasant; and oddly enough, very normal at the same time.

I’ve found myself in naked bike ride withdrawal ever since.

I suppose those who haven’t ever smoked don’t have a lot of cause to ever use a lighter, but I had always assumed that everyone at least knew how to. I’ve never smoked and I knew how, after all. Not so for poor Shane. I guess he had only ever used matches or the trigger style lighters in all his previous adventures with fire. Still, the sight of him fruitlessly prodding the lighter button to no effect was pretty great.

Massive Effects

Cate started playing the Mass Effect series before I did, but I wasn’t too far behind. I witnessed most of the series while she was playing, and I was drawing nearby, listening. I wasn’t planning on playing it initially, but after seeing her play all three games, I had to try it for myself. I’m about five hours into the second game now, and am deeply addicted. Cate played a mostly paragon Femshep, so I’m playing a mostly renegade Broshep just to see the other side of the game.

Shane played Femshep and romanced Thane because he (no so) secretly wants to be a woman, and has a thing for sensitive, amphibious men.

If you’re not from around here you likely don’t know this, but a recent vote happened here in Portland and 60% of the peoples voted ‘No’ on fluoridating the city’s drinking water. I don’t really feel like getting into the science at the moment, however, if you take 5 minutes to do the research you’ll likely stumble on why this was the wrong verdict.

Though really, my teeth are beyond saving at this point, so I don’t really care.
