Anderlecht take deserved point at Club Brugge in final minute

RSC Anderlecht visited the Jan Breydel Stadium for the top game of the Jupiler Pro League's fifth matchday today, Sunday 28th August 2011. The Purple & White missed two penalties and when Vadis Odjidja Ofoe was able to convert a penalty after 85 minutes of play, Sporting seemed to be heading for a loss. Milan Jovanovic, however, beat Dhoest just before the final whistle, final score: 1-1.Anderlecht coach Ariël Jacobs was still not able to count on Denis Odoi, the right back had one final day of suspension to go. Marcin Wasilewski replaced him again. Fernando Canesin Matos was in the starting line-up again, Tom De Sutter returned to the bench. The home team tried to take control of the match early on, but the Purple & White had the opportunity to take an early lead. Milan Jovanovic was fouled in the box by Carl Hoefkens and the referee resolutely awarded a penalty to Anderlecht. The Serb took it himself, but Brugge goalie Colin Coosemans chose the right side and prevented his team from falling behind. Somewhat later on Guillaume Gillet's header, after a free kick by Lucas Biglia, just went wide. Club Brugge reacted through Björn Vleminckx, who put a centre by Maxime Lestienne wide. Although they had missed a penalty, the visitors kept on putting the most pressure on their opponents. Guillaume Gillet reached Matias Suarez, but the Argentinian's shot went wide. Marcin Wasilewski (header) and Matias Suarez (shot) also just barely missed. At the end of the first half, the home team tried to put more pressure on Silvio Proto, but the Anderlecht goalie was never really troubled. The beginning of the second half, however, was coloured blue and black. A shot by Maxime Lestienne just went wide and Proto made a good save when Björn Vleminckx pushed through. Sporting fought their way back into the match and a free kick by Sacha Kljestan, saved by Colin Coosemans, was proof of that. Guillaume Gillet also took a swing, but his shot went wide at the far post. Club Brugge also came close to scoring, but Proto prevented Björn Vleminckx from doing so, the ball then reached Lestienne, but his lob was averted by Kouyate. In the end, the ball ended up with Victor Vazquez, but his attempt hit the side of the net. Both teams had opportunities after that, Colin Coosemans averted an attempt by Jovanovic and Cheikhou Kouyate did well in a duel with substitute Jimmy De Jonghe. When Fernando Canesin was fouled by the home goalie fifteen minutes before the final whistle, referee Boucaut awarded another penalty to Sporting. Colin Coosemans was also sent off the field. This time Sacha Kljestan took his responsibility, but Sven Dhoest, the young Brugge goalie, made the save. When Guillaume Gillet fouled Jimmy De Jonghe on the other side ten minutes before the final whistle, Bruges were also allowed to take a penalty. Vadis Odjidja Ofoe converted the penalty and provided his team with a 1-0 lead. Club Brugge appeared to be heading for the three points, but Milan Jovanovic foiled their plans. Substitute Tom De Sutter fed a centre by another substitute, Sacha Iakovenko, toward Roland Juhasz with a header. The Hungarian reached his Serbian teammate and he put the equalizer past Sven Dhoest: 1-1. The Purple & White, then, were able to finally take a deserved point with them back to Brussels.

Selection : Club Bruges - RSC Anderlecht

Anderlecht coach Ariël Jacobs does not have a lot of time to dwell upon the European qualification, as the top match against Club Bruges will take place at the Jan Breydel Stadium next Sunday. Today, Friday 26th August 2011, the Purple & White T1 announced a selection of 20 players for the game of the fifth matchday of the Jupiler Pro League."We'll undoubtedly play Bruges a few more times this season", Jacobs realized. "But of course we want to win as many of the top games as possible. If only for the status of those matches", he started his press conference. The last duel between both clubs at the Jan Breydel Stadium ended in a 3-0 win for the team from Bruges. "It's not really relevant to talk about that match now, as a lot of players on the field now were not part of the respective teams back then", Jacobs said. "But it is a fact, of course, that this particular loss, the second after Standard, was what did it for us during the play-offs for the title..."Both Bruges and Anderlecht played Europa League matches on Thursday. Both qualified for the group stage of that competition. "So we both had the same kind of preparation for next Sunday's top match", Jacobs stated. The coach is not worried that Sporting could be tired after the close qualification against Bursaspor. "When we were 0-2 down against Mons on Sunday, a lot of people also thought that we would not find the strength to fight back after that heavy away match at Bursa. But we did find it. We came back from far both physically and mentally in those matches. I'm not worried about that."Cheikhou Kouyate knows that the game against Club Bruges will be a genuine top match, at daggers drawn. "It'll be a difficult match. Bruges will undoubtedly want to keep the three points there", he said. "But it's also the field that brings me my best memories. Taking the title there two years ago was the most beautiful day of my career", he concluded.Selection : Biglia, Cordier, Deschacht, De Sutter, Fernando, Gillet, Iakovenko, Jovanovic, Juhasz, Kabasele, Kanu, Kljestan, Kouyate, Marecek, Praet, Proto, Roef, Safari, Suarez, Wasilewski

RSC Anderlecht to group stage Europa League !

RSC Anderlecht played the important second leg of the Europa League PO against Bursaspor tonight, Thursday 25th August 2011. The match, however, could not start worse for the Purple & White, as they were already down after five minutes of play. Anderlecht did score the equalizer before half-time and took the lead after sixty minutes of play. Still, qualification was doubtful until the end, as Bursaspor put in the equalizer twenty minutes before the final whistle. The visitors put more pressure on the home team, but the latter did not cave and qualified after a 2-2 draw (1-2 victory in the first leg) for the group stage of the Europa League!Anderlecht coach Ariël Jacobs recovered Roland Juhasz, back after an injury, in central defence. He played alongside Cheikhou Kouyate. Denis Odoi started as a right back again, Guillaume Gillet in midfield. In the end, Matias Suarez got ready for the match and started next to Tom De Sutter. The Purple & White fell behind early on in the match. N'Diaye perfectly reached Turgay Bahadir, who beat Proto with a header: 0-1. Sporting immediately reacted through a cross by Jovanovic, but De Sutter's header was averted by Carson. A few moments later, Suarez took a chance, but his attempt went wide. Gillet also pushed through, but the midfielder's shot was saved by Carson. After 20 minutes Biglia came close to scoring the equalizer, but Carson made a brilliant save and averted the Argentinian's free kick. In the end, the home team were rewarded for their efforts when Roland Juhasz beat Carson with a header after a free kick by Biglia: 1-1.In the second half, Sporting were able to double their lead just before the sixtieth minute of play. Gillet took his chance with a hard long shot and Carson saved, but the ball ended up with Milan Jovanovic. The Serb put the ball in: 2-1. The match, however, was not over yet at that point. Twenty minutes before the final whistle, the visitors scored the equalizer when Milan Stepanov outsmarted Proto with a header. After the 2-2 the Purple & White had to sink or swim, as Bursaspor kept on pressuring, hoping to score the decisive third goal. Anderlecht, however, did not cave, kept the 2-2 on the board and can now look forward to a new European adventure in the Europa League. The draw for the Europa League group stage will take place tomorrow, Friday 26th Augustus 2011, at noon.

Selection : RSC Anderlecht - Bursaspor

RSC Anderlecht will play the important second leg of the Europa League play-offs against Bursaspor on Thursday 25th August 2011. Anderlecht coach Ariël Jacobs is facing a few question marks as far as his squad is concerned. Matias Suarez, Roland Juhasz and Fernando Canesin Matos are still doubtful. "We also have to keep the matches to come in mind", Sporting's coach realized. The three players are, however, part of the selection of 21.The Purple & White will start with an advantage on Thursday after last week's 1-2 win in Bursa. "That result really is an advantage for us", the T1 realized. "Now we have to control that victory. But we can't lean back, we have to forget the result of the first leg and completely go for the win", Jacobs said.Ariël Jacobs : "What happened to Dieumerci, is a human drama"The preparation for the match is not progressing without any problems. That is, last night Dieumerci Mbokani lost his five-month-old son David. "That is a human drama", the T1 realized. "But I did not need that to be able to put football into perspective. I have been doing that long enough.. We have often been visited by sick children at the club or we have visited them ourselves. The message to my players is that this can happen to everybody, also to footballers who live up in the clouds. Human drama has nothing to do with rank or status, it unfortunately is the reality of life..."For Sporting's coach the goal is to put the focus on Thursday's match again. "It's very delicate and difficult. You have to talk about the situation, but you can't focus on it without end either... Whether the group can do anything? A qualification for the Europa League group stage can help, but that won't relieve Dieumerci's grief, that will sadly remain..."Selection : Biglia, Cordier, Deschacht, De Sutter, Fernando, Gillet, Jovanovic, Juhasz, Kabasele, Kanu, Kljestan, Kouyate, Legear, Marecek, Odoi, Proto, Roef, Safari, Samuel, Suarez, WasilewskiKickoff of RSCA - Bursaspor will take place at the Constant Vanden Stock Stadium on Thursday 25th August 2011 at 8.30 p.m.
