Gamboa, PSITE President, during the PSITE Planning, UP-Hotel, Diliman Quezon City, April 28, 2010)

Good afternoon once again.

First of all, let me say that I am deeply honored and humbled for having been reelected as President. It carries with it again huge responsibility, and a bigger one, if I may say. I hope that I will be able to meet your expectations.

Now that we’re PReParEd … Let’g go Peer-to- PEER.

In my acceptance speech last year, my tagline was “Let’s PReParE.“ It indicates our thrust for last year. This means Professionalism, Research, Partnership and Education. In the President’s time during the PSITE National Convention in Bohol, I reported the encouraging accomplishments of all those assigned to the programs and projects that we planned and their status. And I am proud to say that almost all were successfully carried out. This is because of the leadership of the project leaders assigned and the active cooperation of its members and the PSITE membership as a whole.

For the Professionalism thrust, our plan to revisit and revise our Constitution and By Laws was completed. During our general assembly, one of the highlights was the ratification of our Constitution and By-Laws. Thank you most especially to Sir Farley Abrigo, who worked on this and provided documentation. Thank you to all who in their own way gave inputs, participated in the deliberation and those who were instrumental to the ratification.

Under this thrust also, we revived our website with a new url(www.psite.ph) and a new face. We also made our new logo, customized to depict our coverage. For this, I thank Sir Edwin Gonzales. I have not reported this during convention and I do not want to end this day without thanking him.

A very noble act by PSITE last year was the donation of more than sixty thousand pesos (P60,000.00) for the victims of Ondoy in regions 1, 2, 3, 4, CAR and NCR. This is the first time that PSITE extended this kind of help to its members.

For the Research agenda, our project of coming up with a framework for practicum was finally finished. We just need to manualize it and it is ready to be adopted. Thank you for the effort of mam Cherry Lyn Sta. Romana.

For the Parnership thrust, we partner with Sun Microsystems for the OpenJive Challenge and actively participated in the Y4IT. We also signed a MOA with Devcon, which I will discuss in more detail later.

Our intended focus when we had the Education agenda aside from educating and capacitating our members was participating in educating the voters. In other words, it was envisioned to be educating the voters. However, when we talked to those in authority, we were informed that we need to tie up with an accredited HR group. Considering its complexity and sensitivity, we opted to shelve the project.

Alongside with all these accomplishments, we successfully held the NCITE 2009 in Capitol University, Cagayan de Oro City and 12th PSITE national convention in Bohol Plaza Hotel, Tagbilaran City. Thanks to Sir Edwin Marańon and Sir Gregg Gabsion, the conference and convention chairs respectively.

The teamwork and enthusiasm that we showed last year is an indication that we are prepared, that we can move forward.

Now that we’re PReParEd … Let’g go Peer-to- PEER.

Why am I saying Peer-to- PEER? The thrust for this year is anchored on a peer-to-peer principle. It is like a big brother – small brother concept. We will not only address the concerns raised by big or matured schools but most specially the small schools. The first Peer refers to us, colleagues, peers, not only individuals but also institutions, helping one another to achieve a common goal. As an organization, there are more schools needing our help and I know that the bigger and more matured schools are more than willing to extend a hand.

Like the PReParE agenda, the second PEER is a mnemonic. It stands for Partnership, Education, Extension and Research.

Partnership. As we all know, we can do more if we partner with organizations, individuals and other sectors. I am assigning this Partnership agenda to Sir Greg, being the VP for External. Let us target at least 5 memoranda of agreement for the year 2010-2011. Also, let us target that we will be able to ink an international agreement by the end of the year.

The first E is for Education. For this term, we will focus on curriculum. Curriculum is the core of education. One of the more important aspects of curriculum that we need to work on is to clearly clarify the difference between CS, IT and IS and other curriculum related matters. We can note every time we hold conventions, conferences even meetings the issue on the differentiation of these three computing curricula arises. And most often than not, the answer is that it is based on the ACM Computing Curricula. However, the ACM report adopts a different setting, different place, culture and approach. To further clarify and thresh out all issues and concerns, I was envisioning that we will come up with a similar report using Philippine setting and we will call it the Philippine Computing Curricula. I know that this is an ambitious project. It may not be finished in our term. But I am very confident that we can do it. And we can start with coming up with a computing curricula framework, just like what we did in the research framework.

Still on Education, it is not only in curriculum that we should have a project on but also in instruction. Curriculum and instruction should go hand in hand. We will continue the training of information course design and teaching strategies. Others might find it very trivial to have these kinds of trainings but a greater number of schools need these trainings. And this is the essence of peer-to-peer, taking cognizance of the concerns of our peers, may they be big or small, young or old.

And this education agenda is assigned to mam Cherry Lyn.

The second E stands for Extension and Linkages. There are already models made by TC-GAIL or the Technical Committee on Government-Academe-Industry Linkage. The initiatives of TC-GAIL are noble and definitely helpful. But it seems that this was not continued and activated for some reason. Hence, I was thinking of continuing the initiative done by TC-GAIL. During our convention in Dipolog, it was suggested that the schools can actually make their own linkage program. However, these schools prefer to have a guide or a model to start the program. PSITE could come up with a manual, patterned to the TC-GAIL model, for the schools to serve as a guide.

We need also to prepare a practicum handbook. In Region XI, during my time as president for the region, we have already prepared one and we could check if this can be applied nationwide or needs to be revised. This extension and linkages agenda is assigned to Sir Edwin M.

Both the Education and Extension agenda would be more productive if it will go hand in hand with Partnership. The Partnership group might want to focus more on assisting both the Education and Extension agenda group in terms of looking for partners for technical assistance and funding. Considering the big projects at hand, I am therefore urging them to work as partner in this respect.

R is for Research. We will continue our project of coming up with a research manual. We already completed the framework last year and this was presented during the convention in Bohol. The next step is to manualize it and present the draft during the NCITE 2010. The final form will be presented during the national convention next year. This will be assigned to sir Allan.

Now that we’re PReParEd … Let’g go Peer-to- PEER.

As you can see, the Peer-to- PEER agenda addresses our triad function of Research, Curriculum and Instruction, Extension and Linkages. During my time as convention chair in Dipolog City, the sessions were more on best practices on these areas. Last year, the focus was on research. This time it will be more focused on curriculum and extension. Therefore, what I am saying is that the agenda was planned in such a manner that we continue to be aligned to our triad function. We are hoping that our organization could contribute to the achievement of our triad function in whatever way it can.

At this point, let me bring you to a provision in our constitution and by-laws, there are standing committees that need to be created. Therefore, I am appointing the following as committee chairpersons:
1. Membership Committee – Mam Grace Tyler
2. Elections Committee – Sir Farley Abrigo
3. Publications – Sir Edwin Gonzales

We still have other projects before that are needed to be pursued and it is worth pursuing. These are the PhilJive Cup or Java Cup and the JEDI program assessment. Let’s include these in our activities.

Also, last December 3, 2009, we signed a memorandum of agreement with DEVCON. With the goal of increasing the quality and quantity of the supply of software development engineering talent for the Philippines, Developers Connect (DEVCON) and PSITE agreed to cooperate in conducting nationwide DEVCON activities within the constituents covered by PSITE and its local affiliations. DEVCON will provide a content kit, coordinate speakers for the events, provide training to local DEVCON, partner with PSITE and its local affiliates to market the events. PSITE, on the other hand, will provide venue for DEVCON activities, provide staffing and volunteers to man the activities, provide attendees to the DEVCON events and partner with DEVCON to market the events. Both will jointly solicit and provide appropriate funding sources based on mutually developed budgets.

I am therefore encouraging all regional chapters to put in your agenda and calendar of activities at least one DEVCON project and please coordinate with Ms. Diane Suico (diane@devcon.ph).

Lastly, for the Peer-to- PEER agenda to materialize, I am proposing that a budget of P50,000.00 be allotted for each agenda group. This will help them mobilize and move towards completing their activities.

I am very confident that we can be an organization not just for the sake of being an organization, but one that can contribute to furthering quality of IT education in the country.

Now that we’re PReParEd … Let’g go Peer-to-PEER.

Good afternoon.

On the other hand, it caters some common transactions happening inside the university like searching for faculty, staff, buildings, and offices. Obrero, Davao City.

UNIISYS is developed by the students from the Institute of Computing (IC) and is an application of Content Management System (CMS) that provides services to its users. Wherein the client will create an account to prove that he/she is a legitimate member of the USeP community and then is allowed to customize their profile page, upload and download different files from word documents to music, photos and videos. UNIISYS is a product of system integration,of which is the process of linking together different computing systems and software applications physically or functionally, thus UNIISYS is a combination of various subsystems rolled into one.. Aside from these basic features that is available in all UNIISYS subsystems, these subsystems has additional functionalities that aims to cater to various services for different service recipients.

When I took over the presidency of PSITE, my first order of the day for the board was to inform them that I wanted to see a “working board in ACTION”, and indeed they are really working hard even up to the extent of spending their own money and extra time.

My term was full of firsts and new things. It all started during last year’s convention held at Dipolog City. It was the first convention that we had a panel discussion during our technical sessions and fireworks at night. The Jedi night was held outside the convention area, and that was in Dakak. And more significantly, it was the first time that a member outside of Luzon got to be elected as President of PSITE National.

We had our strategic planning and induction of officers last March 30-31, 2009. The outdoor induction was held at the garden of UP-Hotel in Diliman, Quezon City. It was again a first. It was that time that my PReParE agenda, was presented and eventually adopted by the Board. The PReParE agenda gave clear directions not only to the National Board but also to the regional presidents. We assigned project leaders for every undertaking that we had.

The manner that this convention came about, from organizing to the actual execution, exhibits a great improvement in terms of professionalism among PSITE members. For the agenda on Professionalism, we emphasized on proper documentation. And with documentation, we started of course with taking a second look at our Constitution and By-Laws or our CBL. The chair of this project is Sir Farley Abrigo. Series of meetings were held and even invited mam Peach Tinio, one of the original framers of the CBL. The revision of the CBL is already up for approval and ratification in this general assembly. Thank you Sir Farley for the effort and diligence.

We improved the transparency among the national board. Communications were usually through emails and mobile phones. Official transactions, even on fund disbursements, were being communicated to all board members for comments and approval. The regional presidents were also updated on the activities of PSITE national. And as a show of support to the regional chapters, I also attended the induction of officers of NCR and Zamboanga.

PSITE was again recognized as a professional organization and was invited by CHED to endorse IT educators as TPITE members in the pursuit of strengthening the role in assisting them to formulate policies and standards last February 12, 2010. It is with great pride that our members will be part of TPITE .

In line with the Research agenda, it was our first time to hold a pre-NCITE conference. Presented were model research frameworks, advising and manuscript templates for BSCS, BSIT and BSIS, coupled with best practices in those fields. The NCR research capability building framework was also presented.

Due to its complexity and time constraints, we were not able to have a clear delineation of research among BSCS, BSIT and BSIS. The chair of this project, mam Cherry Lyn Sta. Romana and her committee members, did a follow-up workshop held last January 29-30, 2010 at the Computer Science Department conference room of the University of the Philippines, Diliman and invited Dr. Vlade Mariano of UP-LB, Sir Oliver Malabanan of DLSU and Dr. Allan Sioson of ADNU as consultants to finalize on the research framework. The result of the workshop will be presented by mam Cherry Lyn tomorrow.

What were the Partnership efforts we did during our term? First of all, with Sun Microsystems, we had an OpenJive Challenge last July, 2009. The objective of the challenge is to drive students’ passion and enthusiasm for innovation through the use of Open Source technologies such as Java Technology, JavaFX, NetBeans IDE, OpenSolaris, MySQL, GlassFish, Project Wonderland, Zembly and many others to develop cutting-edge applications for desktop, web or mobile, that will address key issues that organizations face today, while fostering interactivity between communities on the Internet.

In partnership with UP-ITTC, we actively participated in the Y4IT, held last September 8-11, at three(3) different venues, University Theater, UP Film Institute, and Ang Bahay ng Alumni at the University of the Philippines–Diliman, Quezon City . We set up an exhibit booth and provided speakers from PSITE. There was also one session during the conference wherein we promoted PSITE to the IT faculty who are not yet PSITE members.

Last December 3, 2009, we signed a memorandum of agreement with deVcon. This is a cooperation to conduct nationwide deVcon activities within the constituents covered by PSITE and its local affiliations. The details of this deVcon was already discussed by Ms. Diane Suico yesterday afternoon. This may be included as part of the monthly seminar/workshop of the regional chapters.

How about the Education agenda? Our intended focus when we had education in mind aside from educating and capacitating our members was participating in educating the voters. As early as June and July, we coordinated with Bonnie Belen of Smartmatic-TIM. The National ICT confederation of the Philippines (NICP) in partnership with Smartmatic-TIM invited me to attend the 2nd National ICT Summit, held last November 5-7, 2009, at the Fontana Convention Centre, Clark Freeport Zone, Pampanga. It was then that I came to know that they cannot deal with us directly as far as educating the voters is concerned. They deal with human resource agencies like Manred. So we just endorsed it to the regional chapters to be part of the manpower pool of the automated election.

Still on education, we held a Faculty Development workshop at the Crowne Regency Hotel last October 2009, where Sir Bart Tanguilig was the project leader. This is a training workshop on IT course design and teaching strategies. This is part of the TPITE and PSITE faculty development activities for ITE faculty members. Sir Oliver Malabanan of DLSU was the speaker of the workshop. The same workshop was held in Region 4 where Sir Farley Abrigo was the project leader last December 2009. Hopefully, there will also be workshop like this in Visayas and Mindanao regions.

A very noble act by PSITE last year was the donation of more than sixty thousand pesos (P60,000.00) for the victims of Ondoy in regions 1, 2, 3, 4, CAR and NCR. This is the first time that PSITE extended this kind of help to its members.

While we have those accomplishments, there are still some that are in the pipeline. One of these is the conduct of the Philippine Java Cup or PhilJive. This is a prelude to the OpenJive I mentioned a while ago. Second is the assessment of the Java Education and Development initiative (JEDI) program. Third is the possible partnership with the Information Systems Audit and Control Association (ISACA). The MOA is being reviewed by them. Lastly, a proposed MOA for a partnership with PLDT is underway.

We still have a lot of things to do. And we now have a lot of things to share. It’s time to intensify peer-to-peer. This means communicating to your peers, sharing the resources, and most especially develop linkages to further our PSITE agenda.

Ladies and gentlemen, now that we’re PReParEd, let’s go peer-to-PEER.

Thank you and good afternoon.

Gamboa, PSITE President, during the PSITE National Convention, Panglao Island, Dayo Hill, Mayacabac, Dauis, Bohol, February 25, 2010)

Governor Erico Aumentado represented by Atty. Handel T. Lagunay, our keynote speaker who will be properly introduced later, Sir Gregg Gabison, the convention chair, my colleagues in the national board, regional presidents, my fellow IT educators and members of PSITE, our dear sponsors, my peers, ladies and gentlemen, maajong buntag sa tanan, magandang umaga sa inyong lahat, good morning.

Time to PReParE.

This was the first phrase I spoke when I assumed the presidency last year. PReParE is the acronym of our thrust, meaning Professionalism, Research, Partnership and Education. And this convention is PReParE in action, with the theme “IT Academia in the Next Decade”.

To search, to find, to learn, to teach, to develop and to apply are the goals of the IT educators present here today. This is in preparation for this decade and the next decades. It is fitting therefore that the each of us will lend our ears to the speakers and presenters. We invited resource speakers who are experts in their field, those who are in authority, and new and innovative product presenters.

So we have a full packed convention. Plenary sessions include tracks on “Flattening the IT Education Sphere”, “Addressing ICT Education Gap Through Partnership” and “Service Science, Management, and Engineering (SSME)”. We will also hear a presentation on Educating Voters as an ICT Challenge.

As in the past, we will have a Jedi Party Night tomorrow at the flushing meadows hotel. We hope that you will enjoy what we have prepared for you.

During our General Assembly, you will not only listen to the president and treasurer’s report but also cast your vote for the new set of officers.

Towards the end of the last day, the ITE Undergraduate Thesis and Project Framework will be presented. This was a result of the initial meeting during our NCITE last year and a workshop last month.

This 12th PSITE national convention could not have been pushed through if not for the hardwork of the organizers, headed by Sir Gregg Gabison, the convention chair, Sir Dave Marcial, chapter president of PSITE region 7 and local organizing chair, and the support of the PSITE Board, and most especially our sponsors. The presence of our governor here, ably represented by Atty. Lagunay, indicates the all out support of the local government to gatherings like this.

Bohol is such a wonderful place to live, to have a vacation and also hold conventions. Let us make the most of our stay in this beautiful province of Bohol, with the beautiful sceneries, wonderful, tempting beaches and peace-loving and friendly Boholanons.

I am sure that you came here PReParEd and you will not only search, find, learn, teach, develop and apply, but also meet your peers, make new friends and enjoy.

Good morning.

Gamboa, Ph.D. during the MCITE 2009 held on December 3, 2009 at the Holy Cross of Davao College.

CHED OIC-Director Edward S. Aquino, Dr. Iris M. Melliza, President, Holy Cross of Davao College, Sir Edwin Maranon, PSITE VP-Mindanao, Sir. Vic Calag, PSITE Regional President, Deans, fellow IT Educators, guests, ladies and gentlemen, good morning.

I’m indeed very happy as I speak before you today. And as I am looking at this venue, I can’t help but remember the first time that we conducted MCITE in 2002. Let’s relate a little about it.

It was in October 2002 when the PSITE National conducted the first National Conference on Information Technology Education or NCITE 2002 at the Lyceum University of the Philippines in Manila. It was then the baby project of the PSITE National President Dr. Jimmy Caro of the University of the Philippines. I was the PSITE Regional president that time. I was very fortunate to have attended the conference not only because I learned a lot but because I gained new acquaintances, friends and connections. Several informative papers were presented from the educators themselves, from IT experts and consultants. Among the participants were not only educators but those in the administration side, legislators and executives from all sectors. I made use of the time attending the sessions and going around, talking to people and learning from them. Indeed it was full-packed menu of knowledge and network. However, it was sad to note that from Mindanao, there were only three of us. Much as I wanted to share what I gained from the conference, I can’t do it. How I wish I can but I cannot. I learned when I came back that the main reasons for the low turnout of participants from Mindanao were the expensive transportation cost and high registration fees. And these are also among the reasons why we in Mindanao are most often than not left out or left behind in terms of new technology and knowledge. Then I asked myself, “How can I make a little difference in the professional lives of the IT Educators in Mindanao.”

Inspired by the success of the NCITE, I came up with the idea of holding a similar event in Mindanao. This is to enable members from this island to be able to gain the knowledge that the people in the north has gained. As they say, if we can’t go to the mountains, let the mountains come to us. Hence, three months after that, the first MCITE was conducted. It was held at the University of Immaculate Conception. We made it very simple but full packed with inputs from known and distinguished speakers from all over the country. Some speakers were also the ones who presented during the NCITE. We were able to invite several sponsors and supporters. With this, the registration fee is more affordable and because of proximity of the venue, the transportation cost was low.

Considered as the biggest IT event in Mindanao, it was attended by about 200 IT educators and 1,500 students. It was supported by CHED, UPITTC and PSITE National. Also, with the help, or I should say, influence of Mr. Edwin Maranon, who was then the PSITE VP-Mindanao, the city government passed a resolution declaring the first week of December as the Information Technology Week.

And because of its success and from the clamor of the members, the MCITE has become an annual event. And this is now the 7th MCITE under the leadership of Mr. Vic Calag.

I was the Regional President until early 2008. After that, I was elected in the PSITE National as Vice President for Mindanao. And because it was Mindanao’s turn to host the PSITE National this year, I was appointed as the convention chair. Having been hosting and organizing several MCITEs, I noted some areas for improvement not only in the MCITE but also in the National Convention. I instituted some changes particularly in the program for the convention. This was implemented in the PSITE National Convention at the Zanorte Convention Center in Dipolog City. The members and officers maybe were so impressed by the positive feedback of the conduct of the convention and the effect of the changes made that they nominated and elected me as National President. I will be part of the history of PSITE having been elected as National President outside of Luzon.

As President, I improved on the direction of PSITE and continued some of its good programs. We set the direction which I coined as PReParE. P is for Professionalism, Re for research, Par for Partnership and E for Education. So it’s Professionalism, Research, Partnership and Education. At this point, activities of all regions are geared towards the attainment of the PReParE direction. This convention attempts to attain all the four directions of PSITE National, most specially the research part. The quality of research papers improved because it passes rigid screening. Those who have good research papers now have a venue to present. Those who do not have research papers then were encouraged to make one. Besides, it has now become a requirement of the CHED that for one to earn their master’s degree, he or she should be able to present a research paper. I am encouraging you to make and present your research papers.

Why am I relating this to you? Information technology is a fast changing technology. The IT educators in the country need to be updated. They need to prepare studies not only enhancing their capabilities but also meeting requirements of their respective institutions and the CHED. The IT educators in the country need to relate with other IT educators. They need to be within a network where there is sharing of experience and knowledge. There are still a lot more things to do with so little time and very few people working on it. We would be happier if each of us will do our own share for the development of the IT educators. A well developed, updated and well-trained IT educator is in a better position to mold our IT students into a better professionals in the future. And this is my challenge to you. In my own little way, I am trying to make a difference in IT Education in the country. You can do it too.

I wish you a fruitful, enlightening, and enjoyable convention. The organizers lined up interesting topics. Learn from it. During breaks, don’t just sit there and talk among your co-teachers or your co-employees. I encourage you to go around and connect with others. Learn from their experiences. Be happy and enjoy the moments with them. This is a good start to make a difference. As Dalai Lama said, “I believe that individuals can make a difference in society. Since periods of change such as the present one come so rarely in human history, it is up to each of us to make the best use of our time to help create a happier world.” And US President Barrack Obama said, “Make a difference in your life by making a difference in the lives of others”. Hand in hand, I am confident that we can make a difference. Good morning.

Gamboa, PSITE President, during the NCITE 2009 October 21, 2009 in Cagayan de Oro City

Ladies and gentlemen, before anything else, I would like to enjoin everybody for a minute of silent prayer for our members and all those who were affected by typhoons Ondoy and Pepeng. May those who have lost homes and properties find shelter, enough food and clean water. May the Lord comfort those who are traumatized and those who are grieving for the loss of their families, neighbors and friends. May our great Healer bless those who are sick and injured that their health may be restored.

Thank you.

To our Keynote Speaker who will be properly introduced later, Capitol University President Atty, Casimiro B. Juarez, Jr., my fellow PSITE national board members, paper presenters, invited speakers, our dear IT educators and students from different schools and universities, guests, ladies and gentlemen, maayong buntag sa tanan….magandang umaga sa inyong lahat …. good morning to all.

First of all, I’d like to thank you for coming and being able to attend this conference. We were expecting more participants, but then again, because of the recent calamity that hit the country, we got a number of cancellations. And, as they say, the show must go on, because you deserve the best at PSITE.

As you may have already known, the thrust of PSITE for this term is coined as PReParE. P for Professionalism, Re for research, Par for Partnership and E for education. The manner that this conference came about, from the organizing to the actual execution, exhibits a great improvement in terms of professionalism among PSITE members. Through this conference, we are educating our members and even non-members. And this NCITE would not have been possible without our partnership with CHED, IT services providers, suppliers, schools and universities and even individuals. But most importantly, this conference aims to achieve our Research agenda. This means providing a venue for members to prepare and present their researches.

To those who have been members before, you know that we hold NCITE only once a year. And it is the only time that the research papers are presented. In line with our PSITE thrusts, this is the first time that we conducted a pre-NCITE Conference. In the sessions yesterday, a model research frameworks, advising and manuscript templates for BSCS, BSIT and BSIS were presented. And this is coupled with the best practices in BSCS, BSIT, BSIS student researches. These presentations were an offshoot of the training needs of the faculty members in the IT academic community. We are expecting that many will be encouraged to submit more research papers in the coming years.

This is also the first time that there is a student presenter during the NCITE conference. There was debate among the PSITE board on whether to allow students to present or not. But in the end, we came up with a decision to allow students to present their research paper. This is advantageous to the PSITE members, students and the whole IT community as well.

So this NCITE conference is full-packed with research presentations, panel discussions with some product presentations and updates from the Commission on Higher Education or the CHED. We are just starting. I am already excited of the highlight of this opening ceremony. And this is the message from our keynote speaker who is an educator himself, a young and energetic leader.

And I am very pleased that this conference is held in this beautiful city of Cagayan de Oro. A city known by many nicknames such as “Gateway to Northern Mindanao”, “A City in Bloom, Blossom and in BOOM!”, “City of Golden Friendship”, “ICT Goldmine of the Philippines” and now “City of Whitewater Rafting and River Trekking.”

Before I end, let me thank the organizing committee led by Sir Edwin Maranon, VP- Mindanao and the local organizing committee – PSITE-10 led by Ms. Christine Redondo-Sevilla for organizing this conference. Your effort is commendable. My deepest gratitude also to the management and staff of the Capitol University ably led by their president, Atty. Juarez for your hospitality and for giving us this beautiful venue. And to the officers and members, thank you for your professionalism and all-out support.

We hope that in this conference, we will produce leaders and be able to empower others. So, let us be one in achieving our goal to further IT education and empowering others. As Bill Gates said, “As we look ahead into the next century, leaders will be those who empower others”. So let’s all start PREPARE-ing ourselves, educate and empower others. Let us give our best in everything we do.

With all of us working together for the good of the members and the IT community as a whole, no Ondoy or Pepeng can sweep us down and dampen our spirits.

May you all have a fruitful day ahead. Good morning.
