NEW RUNNER’S RACE HITS THE ROAD IN RALEIGH
Proceeds Benefit United Way of the Greater Triangle

Put on your best Sir Walter Raleigh costume with your running shoes or at least slap on a mustache! It’s the newest runner’s race to hit Raleigh and it’s going to be incredible!

United Way of the Greater Triangle is hosting the first annual United Way 8K on Saturday, October 29 beginning at 1:00 p.m. starting from Moore Square. The race will run eight kilometers through downtown Raleigh, past historic Oakwood Cemetery and then through the historic Mordecai neighborhood and end back at Moore Square.

Participants are encouraged to embrace the historical theme and dress in their favorite Sir Walter Raleigh costume. Sir Walter Raleigh-style moustaches are encouraged – and will be available at the race for runners and teams to wear! A post-race party wraps up the festivities with a beer fest.

New race technology makes it even more enjoyable for the runner when they cross the finish line and see their name and running time up in lights. Runners can sign up to receive text messages with their finish time or go to one of the several touch-screen kiosks on site to check and print their time.

To register and see details of the race simply go to www.unitedway8k.com . Runners who sign up prior to October 15th will pay just $30. After that date the price goes to $35. Besides the run, each runner will receive a ticket for one complimentary beer at the post-race party if they are 21 years of age or older.

Race proceeds will benefit United Way of the Greater Triangle’s 82 partner agencies currently serving one of every three people living in Durham, Johnston, Orange and Wake counties.

United Way of the Greater Triangle improves lives by mobilizing the caring power of communities. United Way of the Greater Triangle serves Durham, Johnston, Orange and Wake counties by connecting callers to health and human service programs through United Way 2-1-1. The mission of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation is to assure the development of the means to cure and control cystic fibrosis and to improve the quality of life for those with the disease. Cystic fibrosis (CF) is a genetic disease affecting approximately 30,000 children and adults in the United States. A defective gene causes the body to produce abnormally thick, sticky mucus, which leads to chronic and life-threatening lung infections and impairs digestion. Currently, there is no cure. Dollars raised from events like Stair Climb help fund life-saving CF research. Let’s set an example and show our community that we are physically fit and committed to making a difference in the lives of those with CF.</summary><content type='html'>When: Sat Oct 29, 2011 9am to 11am
