Voting took place over a 2 week period with 6 Secondary Schools, 19 Primary Schools, 5 Libraries, 6 Youth Clubs and 4 Educational Diversity centres taking part. The committee positions that the young people could run for were BYPC Chair, BYPC Vice Chair, BYPC Secretary, BYPC Treasurer and BYPC PR and Events. Each candidate gave a one minute speech for the position they were running for telling BYPC why they wanted this position, why they would be good for it and what they would change if they were elected.

On Monday 26th November members of BYPC attended a Planning committee meeting for the proposed lap dancing bar opening across the road. Imagine our disappointment when we found that the planning committee could not stop the renovation of the project because they only look at the structure of the building and not what it will be used for. We were advised to take our concerns to the licensing committee. This is what we then planned to do.

We now have 24 young people swapping roles with employees in Blackpool. Young people will be working alongside Heads of Service, School Consultants, Teenage Pregnancy and Youth Participation Workers, among others.

The youth opportunities fund has had many successes over the past financial year and have given over stupendous amounts of money to worthy causes, bids put in by groups and individuals who need help funding a project. The projects have ranged from helping Blackpool Interfaith Forum for Youth plan and hold their own youth conference on fair to helping one young person take part in the Transplant Olympics.
