I went to New Orleans in March for a conference. I did not have a lot of time to enjoy the city but I did have one evening of walking in the French Quarter. Most of my pictures turned out blurry as we darted through the streets with the exception of this one. I took it during a rare moment of no traffic and it really sums up my experience. The warm lights, talented musicians and gorgeous wrought iron porches.

Sorry the photos are a bit dark and grainy. They were taken by the hubby on a new camera in a poorly lit hotel room. Which is how most of the photos look from our time in Dallas where we attended Texas Frightmare Weekend. Gary did the poster for the event and was invited to be a Guest so I decided to tag along and help him with his booth. It was my first time in Texas and experiencing southern hospitality first hand was pretty amazing.

We arrived on Thursday night and our Ghoultown friends took us out to see The Razoblade Dolls at Trees. After some great live music, we had the chance to eat at a slider food truck outside of The Double Wide. Folks, I had a peanut butter burger slider and oh my it was four bites of heaven. Overall the night was the perfect way to kickstart a fun weekend. More pictures coming soon!

After a two hour drive from Toronto with our friend Tal, we arrived in London and met Gary’s parents for a late lunch at The Early Bird. I really wish I had taken some photos of the diner because it is incredibly cool. The walls are plastered with gig poster art and the food is fantastic. If you visit London, ON you really should stop by for a meal and if you have a keen eye you’ll see quite a few pieces by the hubby gracing the walls. Oh and try the beet salad, you will not be disappointed.

On the second day some old friends stopped by the booth for a chat, and we had the pleasure of making some new ones as well. The day was busy but I was pretty stoked I had the rare opportunity to see Claudio Simonetti & Maurizio Guarini play together as Goblin in the evening. That’s a pretty big deal around here so I decided to dress up a little bit. It helped that it was the one day that did not involve any power tools or crawling around on the floor. I also know that I needed something that would transition well from the convention all day to the concert in the evening. This polka dot dress was perfect! Now for those of you wondering…Goblin was an experience not to be missed. It was amazing watching them play.

Day 3: Last Day, feeling tired but also pretty comfy…

Day 3, the last day of the convention and oddly enough I am back in jeans. For a lady who rarely wears pants wearing jeans twice in three days is pretty huge. I was actually going to wear another dress but I just was not feeling it. So, I basically recycled the outfit concept from the first day but wore a sweater instead of lace vest. Lucky for me I bought two of these tank tops and brought both because I had an inkling this might happen.

And that was our weekend in London. Now I am starting to plan out my wardrobe for Texas Frightmare in a couple of weeks where we will be doing it all over again. Except it’s in Texas, so I am expecting a lot more southern drawls and some good BBQ!

I actually wore this outfit last year, in October, if I am being honest. I paused for a minute after writing that sentence and contemplated if it was in bad form to post an old outfit, but then I was distracted by Game of Thrones. I am a sucker for a dragon and really there are more important things to life than an old outfit, like the fact that a eunuch knows you’re stashing a hottie from your dad. How often can you add that to your list of troubles?

I took these slightly wobbly photos in February, I can’t even blame being drunk since it was a work night but hey at least you get to see one of my favourite outfits this winter. I was lucky that we had a very mild winter here in Toronto because it meant I did not have to pull out the down jacket more than twice. And while not looking like a burnt marshmallow is reason enough to love the warm winter, it more importantly allowed me to wear these beautiful tapestry boots. A lot.

I LOVE these boots and picked them up on sale for about half off. I am almost afraid of wearing them too much less they start to wear…almost…but not quite afraid. In fact I managed to wear a few outfits that featured them. I won’t lie, these babies get a lot of love, even my boss likes them. I also really love how the boots complimented the colours of this desigual scarf. I picked up the scarf during my December NYC shopping trip with two of my favourite ladies and out of all my purchases it gets the most wear. I could not wear any of the Desigual clothing, but I really like this scarf and the purse I bought. I can see why they have such a loyal following.

The minds behind Plastik Wrap...they make beautiful clothing

What does a lady wear when she her day starts off training a room of executives and ends attending her husband’s art opening at a local clothing store? Well, I decided on something that made me feel confident but also showed my personality. The pieces themselves are fairly simple; a wrap dress, cardigan, scarf and boots, but the colour of the dress paired with the crinoline and style of the boots are enough to push it out of the realm of usual.

The training went quite well, and the art show was a great time. These are just a few of the photos from the opening night and if you live in or around Toronto, they be sure to stop by Plastik Wrap. Gary’s art will be hanging until the end of February but even if you don’t make it in time for that it’s a pretty cool store to check out.

This is what I wore for a lovely October Saturday spent with the husband. We visited a few friends that had booths selling gorgeous art, books, jewellery and hair accessories at the Bazaar of the Bizarre. After I spent too much money there, we hit up a thrift shop on Queen Street West where I scored the most amazing vintage hat for $15 and ended having an early dinner with some good friends.

When I started working on the description of this outfit I realized that I physically purchased every piece in a brick and mortar store. That may not mean a lot to some people, but for me it’s an oddity. Usually my outfits consist of items that I have purchased online which is always a hit and miss. When it is a miss, I sometimes return the items, other times it just doesn’t make sense for me to do so with the cost of shipping from Canada and credit card charges. So now I have a pile of things that I need to either sell or give away.  I am hoping with the addition of Gussied Up, a newer plus size store in Toronto where I snagged this sweater, I will have the luxury of trying on purchases before I whip out my wallet. I think my bank account and closet will thank me.

Pandora turned 10 in November. I think it’s time I graduate from calling her baby to lady.
