Meizu the chinese dream phone vendor few days ago came up and announced that their famous Meizu MX smartphone is getting a quad-core upgrade.  And they have told that the processor is a Cortex-A9-based, 32nm HKMG (High-K Metal Gate) Samsung Exynos. So this will be the very first device to employ a Samsung exynos quad core chip but they haven’t announced the exact model. But A9 and 32nm manufacturing process hints at Samsung Exynos 4412  processor which 90% of the rumors predicted that , will be the processor on the Samsungs upcoming flagship Galaxy SIII.

So the ultimate question which comes to our mind is  that Samsung will let other manufacturer to use the same processor which its own flagship uses at the same time?  My answer will be NO. Samsung is known to stay ahead of the game with their flagship device. Like I wrote earlier yesterday .  Meizu works very close to Samsung since past. Meizu is very popular for its MP3 , Video players and used Samsung processors since beginning.

So these things points us at the Samsung’s Exynos 5250. Which is the Cortex A15 quad core. Before the Meizu quad core came in to the scene, the chance of Samsung using Exynos 5250 on Galaxy SIII was like 70% on my perspective. But now I’m betting the chance of using 5250 is like 95%.

Galaxy SIII is coming on May 3rd. Thats 48 hour old news, But the curiosity is what Samsung has to offer on its beastly phone!  Galaxy SIII is a hit and still the best Android smartphone ever built all round.  Some sources says that GSIII will be an incremental upgrade to already successful GSII. But you know Samsung showed that it wants to stay ahead of the game with the Galaxy S series.

GSII s exynos processor was a huge success and it took very long to others companies to beat it. But it still crowns as a best all round processor because of its battery life and graphics performance. What does Samsung needs to provide with GSIII to stay ahead of the game for at least 6 months? Sure enough its the Exynos 5250 Quad core processor. Currently production technology has stuck on A9 for Quad cores like Tegra 3.  If Samsung brings out the 5250 which features A15 cores and Mali 6 series GPU. It will be very hard to beat.

BGR is strictly saying that  GSIII will feature a 1080P display. If so it will probably be a pentile display.  You can see many people now complains about pentile displays, But I personally like the pentile display which was on my Galaxy S than non pentile display on my current GSII. Its just me, I wont say bad to Samsung if its a pentile display.  But if its 720P display with non-pentile display I wont complain either. I bet Samsung will always come out with a good choice for consumers.

I’m eagerly waiting to see what will it be. And if they put exynos 5250,  I will buy it ASAP.  Even if they decided to put A9 quad core processor, I’ll wait few months until price comes down a bit Both ways I will be purchasing the phone for sure

This is a guide to setup versatile squid as a proxy, It will be password protected as a VPN so its great for personal use . And felt that its delivering blazing fast speed as same as I’m browsing without proxies.

So here is my guide to setup squid as a proxy server on ubuntu or debian for you!

What you will need-

• A VPS or dedicated server with minimum ram of 64MB (64MB of ram will be enough because squid doesn’t eat much ram)
• Debian or Ubuntu installed on your server
• NANO text editor installed on your server ( run “apt-get install nano” to install it if you dont have it already)

Steps-

Install squid on your ubuntu or debian server, issue this command over SSH

 apt-get install squid

Then squid is successfully installed and you need to setup squid to access internet because its currently set only for localhost

squid’s config file is huge so we need to find some lines using nano on squid config file.

Issue this commands to open squid config file with NANO text editor.

nano /etc/squid/squid.conf

On there we need to add few new lines to configure this for our personal use.

You can add then on top of the page. those lines are

#Custom Modifications
 auth_param basic program /usr/lib/squid/pam_auth
 auth_param basic children 5
 auth_param basic realm Squid proxy-caching web server
 auth_param basic credentialsttl 4 hours
 acl password proxy_auth REQUIRED
 http_access allow password

Here is the squid.conf file after adding those lines

Then

Then on that config file find where it says “http_port 3128″ you can use ctrl+w to search for terms. search for http_port 3128 and change 3128 to something you desire. Like 7788

After that http_port XXX line add these

forwarded_for off

http_access deny all

So that’s it on server side. To save the changes and exit press ( CTRL + O ) , then ( CTRL + X )

Restart squid to load our new configuration.

 restart squid

Thats it folks.

While server side setup complete we need to setup our web browsers to use our proxy. I think you are probably using firefox to browse the web so here is the configuration for firefox for other programs you can use the same.

On firefox navigate to Tools=>Options=>Advanced=>Network=>Settings=>Manual Proxy Configuration

On that page enter your IP address that squid is installed and port as 3128 ( you need to enter the port number that you used when editing squid.conf.)  Also click the checkbox “Use this proxy server for all protocols”

Thats it!

Now when you going to browse the web for the first time it will ask for a user name and password.

The username will be your server root login user name. If you didnt changed it, it will be “root” Password will be your root user password of the server

Note that

• It will ask for the login everytime you close and reopen your browser. You can choose to save it on the browser
• When choosing a server for setting up squid for your use try to get a server which gives lowest ping times for your location which will help you to browse more fast.
• Also if you want to get netflix , hulu, pandora of course use a United States located VPS or a Dedi.

If you are in domain hunt or searching for a new name for your startup you might find searching for domains in the regular way is hard. And you might probably get tired by searching because of the enormous amount of .com s already registered.

To overcome the issue there are many domain search tools which search for available domains for your keywords.  But leandomainsearch.com  deserves the top spot on this category.

Sure it works by searching by keywords after or before of your given keyword. But I find the domains it generates are somewhat appealing to use as professional company name or a domain name. the interface is clean and there arent any ads. And after searching for the names, it gives you the option to register the domains via your favorite registrar.  Searching for domains are very fast and I’m wondering what kind of tool or API they use to do it this much fast. It currently includes 2000 keywords and its adding like 100 new every week.  On the first day I used this thing , I stumbled upon very nice domain names which I found amazing because they are still available.  Give it a try and you will love it.

Yesterday Huawei released their newest mobile phone named Ascend D Quad. Whats inside the smartphone is Huaweis home grown K3V2 quad core powerhouse. Its the huawei’s flagship device which they are claiming its faster than any ARM processor in the market. Also they have released benchmarks saying its faster than the Nvidia Tegra 3 and the galaxy Nexus ( Its not surprising to see its faster than galaxy nexus TI OMAP ) . Also K3V2 is using 64bit RAM access architecture which is twice the Tegra 3′s 32bit channel.And the K3V2 has 16 graphics cores instead of 12 present on tegra 3.

But is it really the correct timing for huawei to introduce a new processor? Well my thought is its not. Huawei is still a little player in the smartphone business. new processor also means, the developers need to optimize the apps to run well on the K3V2. Also one might argue this clearly shows the fragmentation of Android.  I have to agree on this point little bit because of the optimizations and time the developers need to sacrifice for the current games and heavy apps.

Just take a HD game. You can see different data files comes for samsung exynos,Tegra 2,TI OMAP,  like that. It means different data files such as graphics enhanced to work on the different processors and their GPUs. So the problem of having many processor architectures is this optimization work. It might run stock android or huawei’s own flavor of touchwiz,sense UI very well. But when it comes to Games and Apps? It leaves a big question behind.

Galaxy S2 had exynos but samsung is a big player in the market and the phones were sold like hot cakes. There are millions or phones out there. So it made like all the games optimized for Exynos. But does huawei will be able to catch up the market and push out millions of Ascend D’s in a breeze? Answer is very unlikely. It means few of you will get stuck with a phone which has very small developing team and interest.  Time will answer our problems.

Whatsapp is a great cross platform messaging service. However there is one device missing from the so called cross platforms. Its Computers. I don’t know why whatsapp is not considering about making a PC,Mac,Linux app now you might argue that its because whatsapp is using phone numbers to mark users and route messages. But its even using pc you can verify whatsapp using your mobile phone or landline ( with call verification method) or maybe whatsapp can have an exception and make Computer and mobile phone of same user to have one number which is not possible now because only one device can use the same number on whatsapp.

however for the fun and making it easier to use whatsapp you can follow some steps and install on your PC. However you have to note that you need to have different numbers for PC and your mobile device if you use whatsapp on your mobile device. Its not a problem and you don’t need to have 2 mobile phones to get verified since whatsapp gives you the ability to verify by call. So you can use regular landline number to verification and usage.

What you need

• A working Internet connection
• Youwave software ( 7 day trial is enough )
• Works on Windows 7,Vista, XP

This guide is using a software called youwave which is not free but you can trial it for 7 days for free. And if you dont mind after the trial period expires you can uninstall and reinstall the youwave software and it will work as fine for next 7 days. However for $14.99 it might be worthy to you because its a android emulator. You can try many apps  than whatsapp and also you can use it to design apps on android etc.

• Installing youwave

You can download youwave here http://youwave.com/download.html and installing it is straightforward. After you run youwave it will present you a android interface which is Android 2.3 Gingerbread. You wont get android market here because of licensing problems between them and google. And to install whatsapp you can simply open the web browser of your emulated android and point it to www.whatsapp.com and there is option to download .apk file there and run it after downloading as you run .apk files on your android smartphone or tablet.

• Get verified

Well here comes the tricky part. If you already have whatsapp installed on your mobile device you wont be able to use the same number here. So if you have another mobile device ( one time requirement to get verified ) you can use the number and receive the activation code. And if you dont have another mobile phone dont worry. you can use your landline. if you going to use the landline let it send the verification SMS to your landline ( you know it wont work ) and after the 5 minute timer finish. There is option to enter the code which you received via sms ( in this case you didnt because you used landline ) or the option to receive automated call to get your verification number. Use that thing. you will get a call and enter the number and voila you are verified.

About 2 months ago my blog was listed on yandex search engine and opera browsers infected site blacklist.  You can read the post about it here – http://www.ruchirablog.com/opera-and-yandex-reports-blog-phishing-site/

But Google and other blacklist databases were reporting this blog as clean.  As all of you think it raised big question about accuracy of yandex,opera blacklist because even Google listed it as clean and my through virus scans revealed nothing.

Black listing on opera was a big problem because visitors using opera as their web browser weren’t able to access my site.  Opera and yandex uses same company Sophos for virus analysis and that’s why they both were reporting the same thing.  basically yandex is using sophos and opera is using yandex blacklist database. So I turned up to yandex and was able to fix the problem within a week.

I know most of you web masters have the same problem and even today when I was going through pending comments I saw a comment asking how to get around this problem.

• Register on Yandex Webmaster portal

At first I thought google is God of these things and yandex thing should be crap. But hey I was wrong. For me Yandex Webmaster portal provides more accurate information and great stats of my sites. Its located here http://webmaster.yandex.com you need to register and add your sites. Verification of sites is same as google and when you logged in, It will show your web sites health

So if your web site is infected it will show it. So actually if you find any viruses manually you can work on removing it and then ask  on the web interface to recheck the site. So after 2 or 3 days it will recheck and if the virus is gone your web site will be removed from blacklist.

But  In my case it reported a virus but even after going through some tough inspection I wasn’t able to find any infection on my files.

• Email Yandex team and ask them

Yandex portal doesn’t report much details about the exact file which is infected. So I turned up to their support team to clear up this mess. This is their email address  support@search.yandex.com actually they turned up pretty quickly and provided all the details about the file and how to get through it and ask for recheck. They were very friendly and informative. If you email to google most of the time you wont receive a reply but yandex is too cool

Moments ago I have stumbled across a video on youtube which shows a interesting pool table on the cruise ship “Radiance of the seas”. Playing pool on a normal pool tables on ship is just not possible because of the movements it makes when ship is riding through sea.

So what this special pool table does is, it balances itself with gravity by using gyroscope located inside it. I don’t know what kind of technique the table uses to move , it might be levers, springs or other kind of electro-mechanical method. I have searched on this but unable to find out the info.

This seems an interesting method to avoid sea sick. just sleep on top of table closing your eyes. its stable as you lying down on mother earths soil. lol

What are the common mistakes that you make!

ever got your wordpress blog hacked? Well even my blog got hacked once Take a look at the image on the top. From this simple how to guide, Im going to explain some little facts about the common mistakes that you make against security and if you got hacked some tips that you can use to remove the malicious stuff from your blog and get back to running condition.

• Most of us tend to CHMOD ( setting permissions about the usage of files and folders) our files and directories to 777 maybe on the start and forgets or don’t even consider to set back the permissions to something secure like 644

Thats what happens most of the time. Some scripts even wordpress requires some directories such as upload directories to be set 777 permissions recursively in order to store the uploads and temporary files.  Newbies who setting up their blogs sometimes gets mad on the directories and set whole http directory and files to 777.  Yes some of you might laugh at this but this happens. And even I did the same thing on the beginning. But fortunately wordpress has been evolved these days and its smart enough to tell you what are the permissions required and its able to check if the permissions are correct on the folders while installation. So you might be lucky these days but even today some additional plugins require the file permissions specially to be set on some folders and you should be careful while doing those things.

• Never set 777 permissions on the main http folder. If your plugin require that, forget about the plugin!

• Always use trusted web hosts.

No matter how secure your blog is there can be loopholes on your hosting.  Yes you might be short with money but still there are plenty of good web hosts on the world which you can get bang for the buck. Forget about the web host advertised on your local discussion forum. Starting a web host is like nothing these days. Anyone with a dedicated server or VPS and cpanel license, whmcs license can start a web host. But good security wont be there most of the time. So you need to be careful. Chances of leaking your data to others is very high.

• Dont use your mysql database user password for something else such as your email accounts or anything.

You might be wondering why is that, its not because of someone stealing your email account password and then accessing your sql database. But I meant the reverse process. Think if your db user name and password got exposed due to a web server hack or something. Hacker will probably try the credentials for login to your email account or other online accounts. So have something special and unique as your mysql user password and never use it on anything!

• Using your web host provided backup system? Good! but take your time and backup off site too!

Its not always the index.php exploit. Sometimes wordpress core gets attacked due to weak-spots on the core itself and some brutal things happened with wordpress not far ago. So backups are most important. If your database got exploited and there is no information yet about how to remove the exploit and get back running you may really enjoy if you have backups in hand. Waiting for a statement and patch from wordpress team or something is not the best way specially if you are running a busy site. So if you have backups its like cheese!

So listen we know most web hosts give you the option to backup data on their control panel so the restoration will be easy and such. But dont depend on it. Like on the previous case if the whole server gets hacked or something. You might lose the backups and will left with nothing but sorrow! So be prepared and take backups redundantly!

• There is cool plugin on for wordpress I’m going for it! That’s not a problem. But view the ratings and read the forums on wordpress before installing a life changer plugins.

This is crucial. WordPress plugins emerge day by day and you need to be careful. The more plugin gets complex and interesting the better the chance of modifying the wordpress core heavily. So those plugins can really maybe weak spots later because of the modifications done to the wordpress core thus leaving possible exploit options. The best way to get around this problem is downloading your plugins from the wordpress.org plugin repository itself and read the ratings and corresponding forum ( there is separate forum for each plugin which can be found on plugin page) about the user experience! Trust me plugins are evil!

• Always update the plugins and wordpress core to latest

See Im using LNMP on my VPS which runs this blog and Im not running FTP service on it. So wordpress updates on the control panel and the easy one click plugin updates doesnt work because they all require FTP to do the trick.

So the get around is following the traditional way of upgrading stuff which  we did on wordpress 2.x.x That is downloading updates and overwriting files . What Im going to tell you is that always keep up to date on the plugins and wordpress core. See my way is very hard and sooo 2008 but I still do that when upgrade comes out and trust me I see upgrades very often with my 25 plugins.

• Read wordpress.org about the latest news and new releases.

Do this at least twice a week. Sometimes you may not even know when a large scale attack or loop hole on wordpress gets exposed to hackers and they are doing mass destruction. WordPress.org maintains a news blog here which provide news about new wordpress releases and most importantly security releases and flows. Don’t think wordpress core itself is very secure and you don’t have to look in to that, WordPress core loop holes has been exploited many times before. So be prepared!

I have published article about my modified nginx auto installer about little over a year ago. Which can be found here. Which got somewhat famous and counted over 1000 installs. The framework which I was used was came from a chinese developer called licess and the framework now has been evolved a lot and now we can count it as fully fledged auto installer.  It now includes latest nginx version ( Which lacked at the time which I modified the script to include the latest and greatest) . And also now it includes separately tweaked installers for debian, centos, and ubuntu, which I had on my modified installer since day one   So its nice to see that he baked 2 options which my modified installer had since day one.

This installer is extremely useful but its not popular in the international community since its written in Chines and no support provided on English.  So with this post I just wanted to introduce that great tool to you guys and edit the original source code little bit to remove the time zone rewrites.

What I have removed

•  Original installer rewrites the time zone to China. I have removed that so your original time zone will remain on the server.

All the credits must go to Licess at www.lnmp.org and you can donate him there. I take no credit for this and I’m just listing the installer here and I just wanted to provide some support for it in English, thats the moral of the post!

What does the installer include

• Nginx 1.0.10
• PHP 5.2.17
• Mysql 5.1.60
• PHPMyAdmin
• Eaccelerator (optional 1 click install)
• VsFTPd, PureFTPd (Optional 1 click install)
• PHP Suhousin Patch
• Memcached (optional)
• Zend Optimizer

install Instructions-

You can use debian/ubuntu/centos 32bit or 64bit. So login via SSH and issue these commands (you must be root user to install LNMP )-

1. Download the installer package-

wget -c http://www.ruchirablog.com/lnmp0.8-full.tar.gz

2. Decompress the install package-.

tar zxvf lnmp0.8-full.tar.gz

3. Go to install directory-

cd lnmp0.8-full /

4.  Start installing-

For ubuntu  – sh ubuntu.sh

For Centos  – sh centos.sh

For Debian – sh debian.sh

It will ask some questions like your domain name , mysql root password ( Use your root password if you are newbie) just answer to them promptly.

It will take at least 30 minutes to fully install and then you will see a massage saying install completed. So then you can try navigating to your ip address to see it working.

After installation -

• PHPMyAdmin will be located on http://yourip/phpmyadmin
• Navigate to your url or ip and it will display a test page

1, install eAccelerator, execute the following command.  / eaccelerator.sh , follow the prompts to select the version, press Enter, it will automatically install and restart the web service.

2, the installation of ionCube, execute the following command  / ionCube.sh Enter to confirm, it will automatically install and restart the web service.

3, the installation imageMagick, execute the following command  / imageMagick.sh Enter to confirm, it will automatically install and restart the web service.

4, install memcached, execute the following command  / memcached.sh Enter to confirm, it will automatically install and restart the web service.

And a advantage of  the new installer is you can upgrade nginx or php with just one shell command.

• To upgrade the nginx  execute the following command:. / upgrade_nginx.sh It will prompt a thing which you need to enter the nginx version number. Its simply asking which version that you want to upgrade. So head over to http://nginx.org/en/download.html and find whats the newest nginx version and enter the number correctly on the shell prompt. For ex- 1.0.10 and press enter. its just easy!

• PHP  upgrade, execute the following command:. / upgrade_php.sh prompted, enter your php version number, such as 5.3.6.

You can manage the LNMP by issuing these commands-

/root/lnmp {start | stop | reload | restart | kill | status}

• For example if you want to restart lnmp issue /root/lnmp restart

LNMP files will be located on
mysql: /usr/local/mysql
php: /usr/local/php
nginx: /usr/local/nginx
Site Directory: /home/wwwroot

How to add more domains (Virtual hosts) for this setup?

You can add more domains to your setup with easy steps. You just need to open your SSH client and type

./vhost.sh

And it will ask you which domain name to add also if you are setting up new domain for wordpress it can automatically add rewrite rules for your permalinks Just answer for the questions when you run ./vhost.sh
