I’m not American and I have never even watched a full game of basketball but I do know who LeBron James is and I understand the passion of supporting a team and its players so I can understand why Ty Kish would have created this site (NoYork.com). The purpose of this site is to start (or support) a campaign to keep LeBron James in Cleveland. The purpose of producing this t-shirt is to help spread the word of this campaign. The tee is pretty cool and the shop page (only one tee at the moment but more in the works) looks good. A $20 American Apparel tee with a simple but cool design and a strong size of support for the cause…you can’t go wrong. If you are interested you can follow their blog.

A few weeks ago I received this sweet tee in the mail from Hypnic. Hypnic does seem like a strange name and truth be told I had never heard the word before. I was sure Hypnic’s founder, Mike Hammer (Really!), told us that the name of his web store comes from his design process but I have nothing to back that up. According to Wikipedia a hypnic jerk “is an involuntary myoclonic twitch which occurs during hypnagogia, just as the subject is beginning to fall asleep. Physically, hypnic jerks resemble the “jump” made when a person is startled.” I have had a few of those. So Mike Hammer wakes up suddenly with this idea in his head and sets to work creating these awesome abstract yet somehow comfortingly familiar designs and we get the Hypnic store. (Disclaimer: I may have imagined this.)

There is not much of a selection. With only five distinct designs (available in several colors), you don’t have much to choose from but what they do have is originality. You won’t find these tees anywhere else, in fact I imagine it would be hard to find similar tees. All the tees in Hypnic are wearable and are perfect for people who are sick of the the current trends such as the oversized prints produced by stores like Design by Humans, lazy pop culture references by stores like Busted Tees and grotesque Zombie tees by just about every indie tee designer with a Big Cartel store.

Ootline T-Shirt at Hypnic

Anyways, the tee I received in the package may be the Hypnic signature tee and is available in navy, brown and lemon yellow. The design is used as the background to the website. It’s called Ootline which makes me think that it must be a typo but it doesn’t really matter what it’s called. The design looks like smoke wafting over the shoulder and the placement of the design is what really makes this t-shirt. As you can see the design goes right over the sleeve and over the seams. There are a few minor print issues at the seams but that’s the norm for screen-printing and they are barely noticeable and don’t take away from the overall effect of the design.

Print over the sleeve and the seams of Ootline T-Shirt at Hypnic

Another tees that really caught my eye was the Winter tee. The design looks like a block of ice that has naturally formed tree patterns as it melts. It is a stunning design and really does make me think of Winter when I look at it.

Winter T-Shirt at Hypnic

Hypnic uses American Apparel so you don’t have to worry about sizing or wonder if they were made my little kids in China. If you want to wear something different you have found it. Hopefully he will crank out a few more designs before Christmas.

As an added bonus Hypnic is giving a 30% off coupon to anyone who becomes a fan on their Facebook page before the end of November. Also you should follow their blog for other offers, news and new t-shirts.

Many of you may be familiar with Flying Mouse. He is a prolific designer with extraordinary talent and as evidenced in his designs, originality, imagination and a quirky sense of humor. He has been very successful at Threadless with about 17 prints from his original account (Flying Mouse) and 7 more from his Flying Mouse 365 account. Yes, he has two accounts at Threadless. The second account, Flying Mouse 365 was a challenge that he set himself. The intention is to submit a new design to Threadless every day for a year. As I write this design 180 has completed scoring.

During this challenge though, he appeared to come to a standstill but this is not because he gave up. Instead he has decided to bypass the competition circuit and produce and sell his own t-shirts. He is practically an institution anyway and has an enormous fan base so why not. It worked for Glenn Jones, it’ll probably work for Flying Mouse too.

The new site will be open on November 11th if all goes according to schedule and the idea is to have a new design featured every day for a full year (hence Flying Mouse 365), and that pretty much means that every week there will be 7 new products available! These 7 new products will be available for a quick pre-sale at a lower price for the entire week (a great reason to visit his store every week) and once the week ends there will be 7 newer products to replace them and so on… They will also have a permanent store that will feature the most-loved products.

I am pretty excited about the launch of this store because Flying Mouse designs are just fun. This is an amazing project when you think about it. A new tee every day for a year. That is similar to what Threadless provides.

Well the store doesn’t open until November 11th as I mentioned but The T-Shirt Review readers are very lucky because Flying Mouse has sent over some previews of what will probably be the first week of t-shirts. Yes, 7 tees. Check them out below.

I’m sure you have probably heard of One before but just in case I copied this text from their website:

ONE is a grassroots campaign and advocacy organization backed by more than 2 million people who are committed to the fight against extreme poverty and preventable disease, particularly in Africa. Cofounded by Bono and other campaigners, ONE is nonpartisan and works closely with African policy makers and activists.

Well, One is holding a t-shirt design contest with no real prize as far as I can see but it is for a good cause so it would almost be hypocritical to accept a prize for designing a t-shirt for a charity.

The winning t-shirt will go on sale on African-made t-shirts and the profits will be used in the war against poverty. Money is after all the only real solution to poverty..

Check the One website for terms and conditions. Submissions close November 6th to don’t waste any more time.

Well, I don’t know about the world but there are a lot of people excited over at DBH. I am not a big fan of Will Ferrell’s brand of humor but he is very popular. I think that if he doesn’t have a hit movie soon he’ll become a direct to video victim though.

Will Ferrell in Design by Humans Tee

I know that there are a few freaks in the world who will want to wear this tee just because Will Ferrell is wearing it but unfortunately it is sold out at the moment…too bad losers. But you can have the design as your desktop wallpaper.

Anyway, maybe Design by Humans were so happy about this celebrity wearing their tee that they have provide a 10% off coupon that expires on November 15th: TNQCQK.

That is a pretty clever title you must admit. Today Busted Tees released a few new tees that are pretty cool. One is a Kiss version of Einstein and it is one of those designs that make you wonder why it took someone so long to think about of. The image of Einstein sticking his tongue out does remind me of Gene Simmons.

Einstein Kiss Parody T-Shirt at Busted Tees

Gene Simmons of Kiss

Very clever. The second t-shirt is nothing special design-wise but as I just recently watched Freaks and Geeks for the first time recently I also created a design to be sold in my Zazzle store. But I haven’t had time to upload it yet. This design is better than mine actually and combines the school’s name with the club which mine didn’t. Another thing that I noticed is that Busted Tees have found another bra-less model with protruding nipples. Good find.
