Fans of Japanese t-shirt store, Design TShirts Store Graniph, will be delighted to know that their summer sale has started with up to 30% off many t-shirts. Also some hoodies and other things I believe. They have an eclectic collection of tees but from what I can see there aren’t many men’s t-shirts on sale. This sale excludes retail stores outside of Japan except the online store.

Yes, another contest and another contest with a pretty big prize. This time the prize is US$10,000. It is hosted by Japan’s UT in collaboration with The Cannes International Advertising Festival. This is the second year for this particular contest. I mentioned last year’s winner a few posts ago (link). The top prize is $10,000 but other prizes will be awarded and the top 20 designs will be used on UT products. The contest is open to anyone, literally. No age or nationality restrictions.

UT is the t-shirt brand of discount retail store, Uniqlo which is owned by Japanese company, Fast Retailing. Fast Retailing have recently announced their interest in purchasing GAP.

Yes, you read that right, €15,000 is the prize for winning the laFraise 15K. That’s over US$20,000 in today’s exchange rate. That is a huge prize, the second biggest I have seen yet (biggest). It is over double the Design by Humans 10K. Unlike last year, when the prize was split between three people, this time there will only be one winner. Winning this prize might change your life by giving you opportunities to do things that you couldn’t before.

New One Day One T-Shirt Web Site

First of all I’d like to apologize for the terrible pun in the title. Sorry. Second, I want to point out that this is not connected to the RIPT t-shirt recently featured in The T-Shirt Review. The RIPT is short for Rest in Peace T-Shirt because after just being on sale for one day the t-shirt is gone forever.

You know the concept, similar to TeeFury and shirt.woot. You have one day to choose whether to buy this ridiculously low priced but probably quite stylish t-shirt. This site opened last month and apparently they have been putting out some pretty nice tees (see T-Addict).

I hadn’t heard of 1971 REISS but I read the hyperbole on the Dazed and Confused website and if you are interested you can too. I think I have posted a lot of contests here recently two of which were $10,000 contests. This contest pales in comparison cash wise but the winners will get some serious pissing rights and err… some vouchers. I know it’s lame but that’s what you get.

The challenge is to create a design that conveys the year 1971 but apart from that it is pretty open. The top two designs will win £500 in vouchers and their t-shirt designs produced as part of a limited edition collection to be launched during this year’s London Fashion Week. The deadline is July 31st and voting will close on that day too. Needless to say…

LOL, always wanted to do that. I’ll tell you anyway. If you submit on the 31st you probably won’t get many votes. On the other hand I don’t think that contests like this are ever really decided on the number of votes they receive so if you have an excellent design that is ready by July 31st you may as well submit it. And on the plus note (for you designers), they designs that have been submitted (just 6 as I write) are pretty crap (sorry guys).  It seems to be open to anyone but be sure to read the Terms and Conditions on dazeddigital.com.

Last November I told you about the Cannes Lions T-Shirt Grand Prix and now I present the winners to you. Sounds formal. LOL. Anyways, back then I couldn’t find any information about a cash prize and still can’t but one of my readers said there was a cash prize of about one million yen and for the Cannes Lions T-Shirt Grand Prix 2010 there is a US$10,000 cash prize which is about one million yen so he could be right.

There were 1,448 designs sent from 51 different countries. This was shortlisted to just 10 designs and finally the winner, a university student in Tokyo known as Sho, won with his design entitled KING. I’m not too sure but I think that the t-shirt above bears the winning design and is available in Uniqlo’s Japan web site for 1,500 yen.

I think it says the 10 finalists are (or will be) available in the store but as I write this there are only 5 in the showcase. Check them out.

Forget exercise and a healthy diet. All you need is a t-shirt that helps you hide the spare tire around your belly. Well, that’s the premise behind this t-shirt called RipT. Get it? Ripped? RipT! To be honest I could use something like this at the moment as 10 years of inertia has played havoc with my waistline but I think I will try solve that the old-fashioned way. Buying the next size up. Just kidding. Kind of. Recently had to do that but I have been exercising and I hope that will work out for me.

Even if you aren’t interested in getting this tee be sure to check out the web site as they have instructions on how to put on and take off t-shirts. Finally someone has let slip this highly prized piece of knowledge.

Not that long ago I introduced the loyal readers of the T-Shirt Review to a new t-shirt store from the guys who brought you internet fashion magazine Format and they were kind enough to send a t-shirt over here. The tee they sent was a black number with front and back print called Naked Eye. It’s American Apparel so can’t really complain there (unless you are concerned about their hiring of illegal immigrants). The quality is top notch and the print was pretty sweet.

It’s a nice t-shirt but it looks like one of those work t-shirts that you get if you work in a bar or a restaurant. You know, the logo on the front and the menu on the back. Maybe a part of it is that the back print reminds me of the girl in a cocktail glass image. That said it is a pretty nice image and the line work and halftone effects just add to the sexiness of it. I don’t think the legs would have worked well as a front print so that may be why it was designed this way.

If you want to wear something different from what others are wearing check out the store at Format. There is a small selection at the moment but is is sure to grow.
