Leigh remain hot on Wigan’s tails, but below them it’s hard to see anyone else cracking the play-off spots. Still, stranger things have happened, and this week could mark a turning point for some teams on the run home.

Whatever happens, there are some cracking games to look forward to this weekend, starting on Thursday night…

Thursday 11th June – St Helens vs Warrington Wolves

Form guide

Saints were beaten 24-16 by Leeds last weekend to slip to 4th. The defeat was their second in a row after they were beaten by Castleford two weeks earlier.

As for Warrington, they squeezed past Hull FC last weekend, 12-4, to claim their fifth win in a row. They remain 2nd – level on points with Leeds Rhinos.

Team news

Two changes for St Helens this week with Harry Robertson and Lewis Murphy dropping out. Daniel Suluka-Fifita comes in for his debut after arriving from the NRL, and youngster Deacon Swarbrick will also make his first team debut if he plays.

Five players come into the Warrington squad this week – Cai Taylor-Wray, James Harrison, James Bentley, Adam Holroyd and Tommy Rhodes. Marc Sneyd, Toby King, Max Wood and Joe Philbin all drop out.

My prediction – St Helens 12-16 Warrington Wolves

This should be an absolute cracker of a game, and although I’m expecting Saints to lift after back-to-back defeats, I’m edging towards the Wire in this one.

Betting tips

St Helens are big favourites, so I’m happy to get straight on a Warrington win, at 15/8. Cai Taylor-Wray is a huge price at 3/1 for an anytime try as well.

Friday 12th June – Toulouse Olympique vs Leeds Rhinos

Form guide

Toulouse picked up a magnificent 36-16 win at Huddersfield in Round 13, and they’ve climbed to 12th.

Leeds had a hard-fought 24-16 win over St Helens last weekend, which keeps them top of the table, above Warrington on points difference.

Team news

Two changes for Toulouse. Olly Ashall-Bott and Baptiste Rodriguez drop out, with Thomas Lacans and Mathieu Pons returning.

Leeds have named an unchanged 21-man-squad from last week’s win over St Helens.

My prediction – Toulouse Olympique 10-24 Leeds Rhinos

With respect to the home side, this is a game the Rhinos will be expecting to win. I can’t see it being a hammering, but they should do it by double digits.

Betting tips

I’m not seeing a lot of value in this game at the moment, so I’ll be waiting for the anytime tryscorer market to open. Maika Sivo and Jack Bird are my picks, although Sivo’s odds might be quite low too.

Friday 12th June – Wakefield Trinity vs Wigan Warriors

Form guide

Wakefield saw off Hull KR last weekend in a 26-24 win to climb to 3rd. It was their third victory in a row.

Wigan were outstanding in Paris last weekend, in seeing off Catalans Dragons 40-16. They remain 6th, just two points above Leigh Leopards.

Team news

Wakefield have made three changes this week. Corey Hall and Mason Lino drop out with injury, while Jazz Tevaga is suspended. Max Jowitt, Will Tate and Charlie Abraham return to the squad.

Two changes for Wigan this week. Harry Smith and Bevan French return, so Tom Forber and Nathan Lowe drop out.

My prediction – Wakefield Trinity 18-28 Wigan Warriors

This looks like being another cracker this weekend, especially if April’s Challenge Cup tie is anything to go on. Trinity will push the Warriors all the way, but Wigan have found form recently, and I think they’ll get the job done here.

Betting tips

I like the look of over 42.5 points in this one, which is 10/11. I’m also backing Wigan in the half-time/full-time market at 1/1.

Friday 12th June – Hull KR vs York Knights

Form guide

Hull KR suffered a 26-24 loss at Wakefield last weekend, which brought their seven-game winning run in Super League to a halt.

Meanwhile, York suffered their fourth straight loss in a 30-20 defeat at Bradford. They sit 13th.

Team news

One change for Hull KR this week with Sauaso Sue missing out through suspension. Dean Hadley takes his place after returning from concussion.

Just one change for York this week with Danny Richardson dropping out.

My prediction – Hull KR 38-12 York Knights

After back-to-back losses, there should be a reaction from Hull KR this week. They were surprisingly beaten by the Knights in Round One as well, so they’ll feel they owe them one.

Again, there’s not loads of value right now, so I’m backing a couple of anytime tryscorers when the market opens. Joe Burgess and Peta Hiku will be my picks.

Saturday 13th June – Hull FC vs Huddersfield Giants

Form guide

Hull FC put in a great effort at Warrington last week, but fell short in a 12-4 loss. They sit in 11th on the table.

Huddersfield were poor in their 36-16 loss at home to Toulouse, in a game played at Dewsbury. They remain rock bottom with just two victories.

Team news

Hull FC have made two changes this week. Zak Hardaker and Cade Cust drop out with injuries. They’re replaced by Jed Cartwright and Max Wood, who has arrived on loan from Warrington.

Oliver Russell replaces Lewis Jagger in the only change for Huddersfield this week.

My prediction – Hull FC 18-6 Huddersfield Giants

Even though the Black and Whites have been decimated by injury, it’s hard to see how the Giants can beat anyone at the moment. Last week’s loss to Toulouse was abysmal, and I don’t see them bouncing back here.

I’ll back Hull FC with a -10 handicap at 10/11. I’ll also get on a Harvey Barron anytime try when the market opens.

Saturday 13th June – Catalans Dragons vs Castleford Tigers

Form guide

Catalans were beaten 40-16 by Wigan last week in a ‘home’ fixture played in Paris. It was a fourth defeat in five games for the Dragons, who sit in 8th.

Castleford were beaten 24-14 by Leigh last weekend, which was their first defeat in three games. They sit 10th in the table.

Team news

Two changes for Catalans this week with Benjamin Garcia and Matty Russell dropping out. Alexis Lis and Léo Darrélatour come in for them.

George Hurst returns from suspension for Castleford. Brock Greacen and Jack Ashworth drop out.

My prediction – Catalans Dragons 14-10 Castleford Tigers

Inconsistency is the biggest issue for both these teams, so it’s a case of which one turns up this week. Almost solely because they’re at home, I’m leaning towards the Dragons, but not with much confidence.

Betting tips

The Dragons have been given a big handicap, so I’m backing Castleford at +14, which is 10/11. I’ll get on Solomona Faataape for an anytime try as well when the market opens.

Sunday 14th June – Bradford Bulls vs Leigh Leopards

Form guide

Bradford claimed thier fifth win of the year in a 30-20 win over York last weekend to climb to 9th.

Leigh’s good recent form continued with a 24-14 win at Castleford. They’ve won five of their last six games to remain 7th in the table, just two points off the play-off spots.

Team news

Squads haven’t been announced yet, but Bradford are likely to be without Jayden Okunbor for the rest of the season. Jayden Nikorima is rated 50/50 for this week.

No news from Leigh so far. Jack Hughes and Joe Ofahengaue both escaped bans this week, so they’re available.

My prediction – Bradford Bulls 12-24 Leigh Leopards

This is a game Leigh will be expecting to win if they’re going to climb into the top six. Bradford should make it tough, but I can;t see them winning here.

I’ll back Leigh with a -10 handicap at 1/1. I’ll also go for Josh Charnley to score an anytime try when the market opens.

In any other week, there would be some mouthwatering games to look forward to this weekend, but with so many players away in camp, we could be seeing some stars of the future in action instead. Especially in the Dolphins vs Roosters match, where 12 players are missing.

And of course, I can’t write an intro without a special mention to Jai Arrow. The former Rabbitoh has been named in number 23 this weekend as a special tribute, and both the Bunnies and the Broncos will be wearing special shirts which will be auctioned off after the game.

No words will make a difference at a time like this, but my heart goes out to him and I hope and pray that a cure for MND is found as soon as possible.

After a bright start to the year, the Rabbitohs have lost four of their last five to slip to 8th. They were beaten 28-14 by Manly last weekend.

The Broncos are even worse off, with five straight losses. The latest was a 28-23 home defeat to the Titans in Round 14, which has seen the reigning Premiers slip to 12th.

The Rabbitohs will honour recently retired forward Jai Arrow this week, and have named him in the 23 jumper. Elsewhere in the side, Campbell Graham and Sean Keppie drop out through injury, while Cam Murray’s on Origin duty. John Radel, Dayne Jennings and Liam Le Blanc come into the 19.

Friday 12th June – The Dolphins vs Sydney Roosters

The Dolphins’ 40-14 win over the Cowboys last weekend extended their club record to five straight victories. They’ve climbed into 5th with their latest success.

After two straight losses, the Roosters got back to winning ways with a 26-0 success at the Raiders last weekend. They remain 3rd on the ladder.

Isaiya Katoa will line up for the Dolphins after being released from New South Wales camp for this one. Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow, Kulikefu Finefeuiaki, Max Plath, Selwyn Cobbo and Thomas Flegler are all in Maroons camp, so Trai Fuller, Tevita Naufahu, Felise Kaufusi, Oryn Keeley and Brad Schneider are named in the 19.

The Roosters are missing seven players to Origin – James Tedesco, Lindsay Collins, Mark Nawaqanitawase, Reece Robson

An incredible 12 players are in camp for the Maroons and the Blues, but I’m backing the Dolphins in this game. They’re only missing one of their first choice spine, so I’d expect them to be a bit more in sync than the Roosters.

The Dolphins are 10/11 with a -7 handicap, which I’m happy to back. I like the look of a 13+ winning margin as well, which is 6/4.

Saturday 13th June – New Zealand Warriors vs Cronulla Sharks

The Warriors had a bye in Round 14, but their 20-18 loss at Penrith the previous week was their first defeat since Round Five.

The Sharks comfortably saw off the Dragons last weekend, 34-12, to climb up to 6th. They’re on a three-game winning run.

The Warriors have lost James Fisher-Harris and Leka Halasima to injury, while Kurt Capewell and Mitch Barnett are away on Origin duty. Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad could return after being named in the extended squad, while Makaia Tafua could make his NRL debut off the bench.

The Sharks are without Addin Fonua-Blake and Briton Nikora to Origin, but Jesse Ramien is back in the starting side after injury. Jesse Colquhoun and Billy Burns come into the starting side as well, and Sione Katoa is back in the extended squad as he eyes a return from injury.

None of the anytime tryscorer odds look tempting, so I’m going with a slightly risky one in this game. It’s 4/1 for either Xavier Savage or Josh Addo-Carr to score the first try, which is pretty good as they’re the two favourites. I’m also going for the Raiders to be leading after 10 minutes, which is 6/4.

Sunday 14th June – Wests Tigers vs Gold Coast Titans

Form guide

After a good win over the Bulldogs in Round 13, the Tigers were humiliated 68-0 by the Panthers last weekend. They’ve lost four of their last five and sit in 10th, but they’re level on points with 8th-placed Souths.

The Titans managed just their third win of the season last weekend, as they beat Brisbane 28-23. That victory has seen them climb a place to 15th on the ladder.

Team news

The Tigers have rung the changes after last week’s humiliation against the Panthers. Jeral Skelton and Faaletino Tavana have been dropped, while Royce Hunt is ruled out through injury. Api Koroisau misses out due to Origin. Sione Fainu returns from concussion, while Taylan May is back from injury.

Jaylan De Groot comes into the starting side for the Titans, with Jojo Fifita in Queensland camp. Tino Fa’asuamaleaui is also away with the Maroons, while Chris Randall is out with concussion. Jett Liu, Adam Christensen and Max Feagai are all named on the bench. If Liu comes on, it’ll be his NRL debut.

My prediction – Wests Tigers 16-12 Gold Coast Titans

Everything is making me want to tip the Titans after last week’s resepctive scores, but this will be the Tigers’ final game at Leichhardt Oval before it’s renovated, so they’ll be looking for a big performance to sign off to the old ground in style. There needs to be a reaction after last week’s thrashing too.

I don’t see this being really high-scoring, so I’m going for under 50.5 points, which is 5/6. I’m also getting on the Titans to score under 21.5 points, which is 1/1.

St Helens are hot on their heels in 3rd with an identical 9-3 record. They were surprisingly beaten 30-10 by Castleford in their last match. That defeat ended their five-game winning run.

Leeds welcome Jack Bird and Tom Holroyd back into the squad after injury. Zak Lloyd and Jacob Hardy drop out.

St Helens also make two changes this week. Noah Stephens drops out with concussion and Jackson Hastings serves the first of a two-game ban. George Whitby and Alfie Sinclair come into the squad.

My prediction – Leeds Rhinos 20-14 St Helens

This should be a tight game, but I’m leaning towards the home side at Headingley, although it could go either way.

Brodie Croft is well-priced at 15/8 for an anytime try. Leeds are 5/6 in the half-time/full-time market, which I’ll be getting on as well.

Anything other than a routine home win would be a surprise here. Anything can happen after a weekend off, but form points firnly at the Wire in this one.

This is another game that should be close, but I’m edging towards the home side, just.

I’m not overly convinced by the Bulls’ -8 handicap, so I’m backing them to win by 1-7 at 4/1 and 8-14 at 10/3. If either of those come in, you’ll more than double your money.

I know Cas had a great win last time they played, but I can’t see them backing it up here. The Leopards are in fine form and they’ll have their eyes firmly fixed on the top six.

This is another game that’s hopefully going to be a tight affair. 12th vs 11th doesn’t sound that appealing on paper, but this could be an intriguing encounter. I’m leaning towards the French side, but really can’t split them.

Toulouse are big outsiders here, so I’m backing them to win at 12/5, as that price is just too good to ignore. I’ll be getting on an anytime try for Olly Ashall-Bott when the market opens as well.

Hull KR make two changes to the squad that lost to Wigan in the cup final last week. Dean Hadley failed his HIA in that game and Jack Brown has left the club to join Castleford. Ryan Hampshire comes in, and there could be a debut for former NRL star Tevita Pangai Jr.

My prediction – Wakefield Trinity 12-26 Hull KR

The Robins will be looking to bounce back quickly from last week’s disappointing cup final defeat, so I’m expecting a reaction here.

Rovers are just 4/5 for the win, so I’m straight on that. I’ll back a Mikey Lewis anytime try when the market opens as well.

Saturday 6th June – Catalans Dragons vs Wigan Warriors

Catalans ended a three-game losing run last time out to beat York, 36-22. They’re 8th heading into this historic game in Paris.

Wigan come into the game on a real high after last week’s 40-10 Challenge Cup Final victory over Hull KR. They’re 6th in Super League, just two points clear of the chasing pack.

Tommy Makinson, Lewis Dodd and Julian Bousquet replace Lenny Marc, Alexis Lis and Adrian Delarose for the Dragons this week.

Wigan have made three changes from the cup final squad. George Marsden, Nathan Lowe and George O’Loughlin rcome in for Bevan French, Harry Smith and Sam Walters.

These two sides can be so inconsistent, it’s hard to know which way this could go. I’m so torn in this one. Everything so far this year is tipping me towards the Knights, and yet I still can’t go against Mebourne at AAMI Park. They’ve picked up in recent weeks, and might just edge this.

I’m backing Melbourne to score first, lead at half-time and win, which is a tidy 13/8. And although the odds aren’t amazing at 4/6, I can’t ignore Sua Fa’alogo for an anytime try again.

After three straight losses, the Tigers bounced back with a 20-16 win over the Bulldogs last week to stay 10th.

The Panthers grinded out an impressive 20-18 win over the Warriors without their Origin stars to move four points clear at the top of the ladder.

The Dragons finally ended a 15-game losing run stretching back to 2025 with a gutsy 30-26 win over the Broncos in Round 13. They remain bottom of the ladder, but they have the Titans in their sights.

After a brief reprieve in Round 12, the Bulldogs were beaten again last week by the Tigers. That made it six defeats in seven games, and it’s seen them drop to 14th.

The Eels aren’t doing much better, and their 28-22 loss to the Knights was a fourth in five games. They’ve dropped to 15th.

Sean O’Sullivan and Logan Spinks replace Lipoi Hopoi and Jonathan Sua on the bench in the only changes this week for the Bulldogs.

Ryley Smith is back in the extended squad for the Eels, while Teancum Brown replaces Charlie Guymer on the six-man bench.

My prediction – Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs 18-8 Parramatta Eels

The Bulldogs are making me look really bad after I tipped them for the Premiership this year, but I’m still backing them again in this one. They have the stronger side and at some point I can see things clicking.

It’s that time again, as the Challenge Cup reaches its climax at Wembley this weekend. More than 60,000 fans are expected to see Wigan take on Hull KR.

Wigan are chasing a record-extending 22nd success in the competition, while holders Hull KR are looking to win their third final.

Form guide

Wigan Warriors

It’s been a mixed year so far for the Warriors, who are 6th in Super League with a 7-5 record.

After winning their opening five games, they went on a four-game losing streak to drop down the table. They recovered with back-to-back wins over Bradford and Leeds earlier this month, before an under-strength side were hammered last Thursday by this weekend’s cup final opponents.

Hull KR

The Robins’ form has been the opposite. After losing three of their first four games, they’ve won seven in a row to climb to 4th – just two points off top spot.

They’re the second-highest points scorers in Super League too, despite playing a game less than leaders Leeds.

Head to head

These two met in Super League last week, but I wouldn’t draw any conclusions from that game. Wigan rested almost their entire first team, as 10 youngsters made their debuts in a 62-4 thrashing.

The two sides will next face each other in late August at the Brick Community Stadium.

Players to watch

Bevan French is the surprise name in the Warriors squad this weekend, although whether he’ll play remains to be seen. The 30-year-old stand-off was initially ruled out until July, so he’s either way ahead of schedule or coach Matt Peet is playing mind games.

Either way, he’ll be a game changer if he does play. He’s won everything there is to win since coming to Super League back in 2019 – both individually and as a team.

Brad O’Neill has arguably been Wigan’s most consistent player this year, and after being rested last week, the hooker will be ready to go for the full 80 minutes this week.

He’s still only 23, but his medal cabinet’s bursting at the seams, and he could add a Lance Todd trophy to that collection with a big performance on Saturday.

12 months ago, Mikey Lewis came into the Challenge Cup Final without a trophy to his name. Fast forward a year, and he’s claimed four of them, as well as playing in all three Ashes tests for England at the backend of 2025.

He’s got 13 tries in Super League this year too, including a hat-trick against the Warriors last week, so he comes into this game in fine form.

Tom Amone has ably stepped into the shoes of Jared Waerea-Hargreaves since arriving at the start of the year. The big prop got his Robins career off to the perfect start with a try in the World Club Challenge win over Brisbane back in February, and he’ll be after his second medal in a little over four months this weekend.

Team news

Wigan welcome back Liam Farrell and Bevan French this week. They’ve named a near full-strength squad, with only Liam Marshall missing from their strongest 13.

Hull KR have James Batchelor and Joe Burgess back in the squad this week. Similar to Wigan, they only have one of their strongest 13 missing, with fullback Arthur Mourgue out injured.

My prediction

Wigan Warriors 14-8 Hull KR

There have been a few cagey affairs between these two in the last couple of years and I can see this being similar. Both teams’ successes in recent years have been built on strong defence, so I’m not expecting a really high-scoring affair in the Wembley sunshine.

Betting tips

There are some great odds on anytime tryscorers, so I’m jumping straight on Zach Eckersley for Wigan, at 11/5.

Hull KR are slight favourites, so if I’m going with my score prediction then Wigan to win is a no-brainer at 6/5.

The Tigers are on a slippery slope, with three straight losses and 142 points conceded in that time. Their two points for the bye last week has them sitting in 10th though.

The Bulldogs, meanwhile, finally ended their five-game losing run with a 30-20 win over Melbourne last weekend. They’ve climbed to 13th with that victory.

Jahream Bula, Api Koroisau, Alex Twal and Heamasi Makasini are all back for the Tigers this week. Faaletino Tavana replaces Luke Laulilii on the wing, while Taylan May and Patrick Herbert are both missing too.

Jacob Preston drops out through injury for the Bulldogs, so Harry Hayes comes into the starting side. Josh Curran is back on the bench after a spell in NSW Cup, while Stephen Crichton and Connor Tracey are named on the extended bench. The Broncos had a bye last weekend, but they’ve lost their last three games to sit 11th on the ladder.

As for the Dragons, they’re still winless with last week’s 30-12 loss to the Warriors making it 11 in a row to start the year.

Team news

The Broncos are boosted by the return of Payne Haas and Brendan Piakura this week. Kotoni Staggs, Ezra Mam, Gehamat Shibasaki and Pat Carrigan have all been named to back up after Origin. Jack Gosiewski and Grant Anderson return on the bench.

Moses Suli and Jacob Liddle are back for the Dragons this week. Hayden Buchanan, Jaydn Su’A and Christian Tuipulotu are all ruled out.

My prediction – Brisbane Broncos 42-10 St George Illawarra Dragons

The Broncos couldn’t have handpicked a better team and venue this weekend after three straight losses. The Dragons have been abysmal this year, and a routine home win should be a formality.

Betting tips

The Broncos should be safe with a -20 handicap at 10/11. I can see Reece Walsh having a big game after his Origin snub as well, so I’m backing him for 2+ tries at 15/8.

Sunday 31st May – Canberra Raiders vs North Queensland Cowboys

Form guide

The Raiders were beaten 30-22 by the Dolphins last weekend, which means they remain in 12th.

The Cowboys were 30-18 winners over the Rabbitohs, which made it four wins out of five and saw them climb to 6th.

Team news

Ethan Strange and Hudson Young have been named to back up for the Raiders after their Origin exploits. Seb Kris is back from injury, but Jayden Brailey misses out with concussion.

The Cowboys have been in great form this year and there’s no reason to think they can’t carry on here. The Raiders have been inconsistent and it wouldn’t be a huge shock if they win, but I’m backing the away side in this one.

Betting tips

The Raiders are favourites for this one, so I’m straight on the Cowboys to win at 6/5. I haven’t tipped Jaxon Purdue for an anytime try recently, but he was one of my trusty go-tos last year, so I’m backing him at 6/4.

Sunday 31st May – Penrith Panthers vs New Zealand Warriors

The Panthers had a bye last weekend, but it’s 10/11 wins so far this year as they lead the ladder by two points.

Hot on their heels are the Warriors, who have 9/11 wins. They beat the Dragons 30-12 last week to tighten their grip on 2nd.

Team news

Panthers coach Ivan Cleary has gone against the grain by naming his Origin stars (Nathan Cleary, Isaah Yeo, Casey McLean and Brian To’o) on the extended bench. Liam Martin is back after injury in the back row.

Origin stars Mitch Barnett and Kurt Capewell are left out entirely.

My prediction – Penrith Panthers 20-16 New Zealand Warriors

Until we see the lineups on matchday, this one’s very difficult to predict. I have a strong suspicion Penrith will play their Origin stars, or at least two of them. On that basis, I’m going for them to edge this one, but if all four are rested I’ll be leaning towards the Wahs.

Betting tips

I’m not committing to anything in this one until matchday, but if you get on it before that, the Warriors are 7/5 for the win. If Penrith’s Origin stars don’t make it, that price will come down, so get in quick if you think they’ll stick with the named lineup.

Alofiana Khan-Pereira wil start for the Warriors, and I’m tipping him for an anytime try at 5/6.

Where’s the year going? It only feels like last weekend we were kicking off the NRL season in Vegas, and now Origin’s back already.

Queensland come into the 2026 series with the shield after their 2-1 victory in 2025. It was their 25th series win to New South Wales’ 17, but this is a whole new year with a few new faces, and as we know, anything can happen. Especially this year, when the new eligibility rules have opened Origin up to a whole lot more NRL players.

Game one takes place in Sydney this week, then it’s off to the MCG for game two, before the series wraps up in Brisbane in early July.

More on games two and three nearer the time, but first up, let’s dive into game one. Starting with the squads…

Queensland squad for game one

Queensland debutants

Six players could be set for their Maroons debuts in game one – Jojo Fifita, Sam Walker, Max Plath, Briton Nikora, Ezra Mam and Kulikefu Finefeuiaki.

Fifita has been named on the wing, despite all of his Titans appearances this year coming in the centres. Still, with five tries in 10 games for a struggling side, he’s certainly earned his call-up.

Sam Walker is named in the halves after a great start to the year with the Roosters. He replaces last year’s Wally Lewis medalist, Tom Dearden, who’s ruled out through injury. With 96 NRL appearances under his belt, Walker’s certainly ready for his opportunity.

Max Plath is the final debutant to be named in the starting side. The Dolphins man has been sensational to start the year, but he’s been named at lock forward instead of his usual spot at hooker. With no specialist hooker on the bench, don’t be surprised to see him shuffled around if Harry Grant comes off the field for any reason.

On the bench, Sharks man Briton Nikora has been named in the number 14 jumper after 168 first grade appearances, while Ezra Mam and Kulikefu Finefeuiaki have been named in 18 and 20 respectively, so don’t be surprised if they don’t make it on matchday.

Queensland absentees

Reece Walsh is the headline absentee for the Maroons, who have opted for Kalyn Ponga at fullback instead.

Tom Dearden is the other major name missing, although he’s injured. Valentine Holmes is usually a mainstay at this time of year too, and as Queensland’s third-highest points scorer, his omission is a bit of a surprise. Then again, his form in a dreadful Dragons side hasn’t warranted a call-up for game one.

Xavier Coates is also missing through injury. The Melbourne winger has six tries in his 13 Maroons appearances.

New South Wales squad for game one

New South Wales debutants

Six players could make their New South Wales debuts in game one – Tolutau Koula, Addin Fonua-Blake, Victor Radley, Ethan Strange, Blayke Brailey and Casey McLean.

Tolu Koula is named on the wing after a stellar start to the year with Manly. The 23-year-old plays in the centres for his club side, but he’ll have no problems moving over one place.

The other starter is Sharks prop Addin Fonua-Blake, who makes his Origin debut at the age of 30, and with 200+ NRL games under his belt.

Roosters second rower Victor Radley is named on the bench alongside Blayke Brailey, while Ethan Strange, Casey McLean and Dylan Lucas are part of the extended squad.

New South Wales absentees

Dylan Edwards is the notable absentee for the Blues, with James Tedesco preferred to him at fullback.

Despite being named to start, Mitch Moses is a doubt, so Ethan Strange is likely come in for his NSW debut. That means no spot in the halves for Jarome Luai, despite the outstanding partnership he enjoyed with Nathan Cleary at club level.

Last year’s series

Queensland were 2-1 victors in 2025, bouncing back from a home defeat in game one.

That 18-6 loss at Suncorp Stadium came despite a sin bin for Blues winger Brian To’o.

Queensland edged game two in Perth after a stunning first half saw them go in 26-6 at the break. The Blues rallied to get back to 26-24, but couldn’t find a late try to nick the series.

The Maroons came flying out the blocks in game three as well, as they bagged a 20-0 half-time lead in Sydney. The Blues won the second half 12-4, but it was too little too late, as the Maroons won 24-4 to claim their 25th Origin series.

The coaches

This will be Queensland coach Billy Slater’s fifth series at the helm. The legendary fullback is joint-ninth in the Maroons’ all-time appearance chart with 31 games under his belt, but this is his first coaching role. He’s won 7/12 games as coach, which includes three series wins out of four.

New South Wales coach Laurie Daley is in his second stint in charge of the Blues. He coached them from 2013 to 2017 before being reappointed ahead of the 2025 series. He won 6/15 games in his first spell at the helm, which included just one series win in 2014 and a record-breaking 52-6 loss the following year.

Notable stats

• The Blues have lost three of their last four games at Accor Stadium.
• The Maroons have lost Game 1 only once under coach Billy Slater.
• The Blues have lost their last four series-openers in Sydney.
• Maroons fullback Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow has scored 11 tries in 10 Origin appearances.
• Winger Brian To’o requires one try to become the outright leading Origin tryscorer for NSW.

My prediction

New South Wales 22-14 Queensland

The relaxing of the eligibility rules has completely changed the dynamic of Origin, so this year’s series feels more unpredictable than ever. With up to 12 players making their debuts this year, a lot will come down to how well they handle the added pressure.

If the Blues are to win the series, they need to get off to a strong start at home, and I can see them doing it this week. I’m expecting Queensland to win a series decider at Suncorp in a few weeks’ time, but that’s a way off yet. For game one, I have a feeling the Blues could get the job done.

Betting tips

With no form to go on, the first Origin is always a betting minefield. On the plus side, there’s plenty of value to be had if you can get it right.

I’m going for Brian To’o to score an anytime try in the first half, which is 12/5. I’m also backing there NOT to be three unanswered tries, which is 7/5. Lastly, I’m backing New South Wales with a -2 handicap at 10/11.

Thursday 21st May – Hull KR vs Wigan Warriors

Form guide

The Robins are firing after a slow start to the year, and they’ve won six straight in Super League. Last week they saw off Leigh in a 20-16 victory which sees them sitting in 4th.

Wigan have bounced back from a poor run of form to win their last two in Super League. They beat Leeds 24-4 last week to cement their spot in the top six.

Team news

Three changes for Hull KR this week with Arthur Mourgue, Joe Burgess and Jack Charles all dropping out. Jordan Dezaria, Harvey Horne and Ryan Hampshire replace them.

Wigan have named a hugely under-strength squad with Wembley in mind next week. Nine players could make their debuts this week, while Zach Eckersley, Junior Nsemba, Patrick Mago, Jack Farrimond, Sam Eseh and Tom Forber are the only first teamers in the 21-man-squad.

My prediction – Hull KR 58-10 Wigan Warriors

There’s no getting away from the fact Wigan have effectively thrown in the towel before kick-off with their squad selection. If they beat the Robins at Wembley next week then it’ll quickly be forgotten, but for now I’m expecting their kids to get a hammering this week.

Betting tips

After Wigan’s squad announcement, all markets have gone for this game. If they open nearer the time, I’ll back Tom Davies and Peta Hiku for anytime tries, but I don’t expect much value at all.

Friday 22nd May – Leigh Leopards vs Hull FC

Form guide

The Leopards saw a three-game winning run come to an end with defeat against Hull KR last week. They sit 7th – four points off the play-off places.

Hull FC have lost four of their last five games, including back-to-back defeats against newly-promoted Toulouse and Bradford in the past two weeks. They’re down in 9th.

Team news

Leigh are likely to name the same 17 who faced Hull KR last weekend. Tesi Niu was injured in the warm-up ahead of that one, and he drops out this week.

Hull FC have made five changes to their squad from last week’s defeat at Bradford. Yusuf Aydin starts a six-game ban, while Lewis Martin, Amir Bourouh, Ligi Sao, and Brad Fash drop out through injury. In their places come Herman Ese’ese, Joe Phillips, Hugo Salabio, Ben Johnson, and Lennon Clark.

My prediction – Leigh Leopards 22-6 Hull FC

I fancy the Leopards in this one. The Black and Whites are missing 15 players, and although Leigh also have a few absentees, I still think they look stronger overall.

Betting tips

I’m backing Josh Charnley and Umyla Hanley for anytime tries when the market opens for this one.

Friday 22nd May – Leeds Rhinos vs Huddersfield Giants

Form guide

The Rhinos suffered a disappointing 24-4 loss to Wigan last week, which has seen them drop to 2nd. They’d won five in a row heading into that game though.

After showing some signs of life a few weeks ago, the Giants have lost their last four in a row to slip to rock bottom. They did at least put in a spirited second half display against St Helens last week before falling short in a 26-18 loss.

Team news

Lachlan Miller misses out for Leeds through suspension, while Tom Holroyd misses out through injury. Youngsters Jacob Hardy and Zak Lloyd come into the squad this week.

Huddersfield have Adam Swift, Taane Milne, Asher O’Donnell and Jack Billington all missing from last week’s squad. Sam Hewitt, Kieran Rush and Connor Carr all return this week.

My prediction – Leeds Rhinos 38-12 Huddersfield Giants

Leeds will fancy their chances of a convincing win here against a struggling Giants side. I don’t expect the Rhinos to have too many problems in this one.

Betting tips

I’m happy to back Leeds with a -22 handicap at 10/11. I’ll get on Maika Sivo for an anytime try as well when the market opens, but don’t expect great odds.

Saturday 23rd May – Castleford Tigers vs St Helens

Form guide

Castleford picked up a much-needed 24-18 win at York last week for just their fourth victory of the season. They’re 11th heading into this weekend.

Saints bounced back from their Challenge Cup exit with a 26-18 win over Huddersfield last weekend. That victory saw them go top at the expense of Leeds.

Team news

Squads haven’t been announced yet, but Castleford will definitely be without George Hirst. The prop picked up a two-game ban earlier this week.

St Helens coach Paul Rowley confirmed that Saints will have Mark Percival available again this week after injury.

My prediction – Castleford Tigers 12-30 St Helens

Saints should win this one relatively comfortably. Cas have struggled in most games this year, and Saints bounced back well last week. This is one they’d expect to win.

Betting tips

Again, the handicap market looks fine here with St Helens at -10 and 10/11. I’ll back Lewis Murphy for an anytime try as well when the market opens.

Saturday 23rd May – Toulouse Olympique vs Wakefield Trinity

Form guide

Toulouse put up a good fight against Warrington last time out, but fell short in a 24-18 home loss. They remain 13th heading into this weekend.

Wakefield put on a clinic in the second half last week to destroy Catalans Dragons, 58-10. They sit 5th in the table.

Team news

Again, squads haven’t been named yet. Henry O’Kane avoided a ban at the disciplinary this week, so he’s available for Toulouse.

No news out of Wakefield so far, but Caius Faatili will be hoping to start this week after his second half hat-trick against the Dragons last week.

My prediction – Toulouse Olympique 10-24 Wakefield Trinity

I’d be surprised if Wakefield don’t win this. Toulouse have put in some good performances recently and will cause Trinity a few problems, but the away side will be eyeing a win here if they’re serious about pushin for a top four spot.

Betting tips

After his exploits last week, I’m backing Caius Faatili for an anytime try again when the market opens. I’ll also back Jake Trueman for the same, as the handicap of -14 could be a bit touch and go.

Saturday 23rd May – York Knights vs Catalans Dragons

Form guide

The Knights were very unlucky in losing 24-18 to Castleford last week, but it was ultimately a seventh defeat in their last eight games. They’re down in 12th ahead of this one.

Catalans, meanwhile, have fallen off a cliff in recent weeks. Their 58-10 hammering by Wakefield last time out was their third straight loss, and they’ve conceded 137 points in the process. They’re 8th heading into this game.

Team news

It’s too early for official squad news, but York will definitely be without Jesse Dee, who failed his HIA last week. Justin Sangare is a doubt too after suffering a head knock in the same game.

No news out of Catalans Dragons so far. Four players faced the disciplinary this week, but all escaped without a ban.

My prediction – York Knights 12-18 Catalans Dragons

I wouldn’t be too surprised if the Knights win this, but I expect Catalans to bounce back at some point, and with a new coach named this week, now’s the perfect time to start.

Betting tips

I’m backing Catalans at 10/11 in the half-time/full-time market. I’ll also get on Tommy Makinson for an anytime try when the market opens.

Sunday 24th May – Warrington Wolves vs Bradford Bulls

Form guide

Warrington’s 24-16 win over Toulouse last weekend made it three straight wins in Super League. They remain 3rd, just two points off top spot.

Bradford had an impressive 16-14 win over Hull FC last time out. It followed a run of five straight losses, and has them sitting in 10th.

Team news

Warrington coach Sam Burgess has confirmed that Joe Philbin will be missing again this week. Sam Stone is expected to return though.

Bradford will be without Ethan Ryan this week after the winger failed his HIA against Hull FC.

My prediction – Warrington Wolves 36-14 Bradford Bulls

Warrington should win this one without too much fuss, especially with the Bulls still missing a number of players.

Betting tips

Warrington should be ok with a -20 handicap at 10/11. I’ll back Josh Smith for an anytime try when the market opens as well.

With so many players missing to Origin, this is a tough one to call. I’m sticking with my gut and backing the in-form Dolphins though. They still have some of their biggest names available, and they’re on a good run, so I can see them doing the business here.

Betting tips

Canberra are favourites, so I’m straight on a Dolphins win at 13/10. I’ll also back Jack Bostock for an anytime try. He’s been in great form since coming back from injury, and 11/10 is too good to pass up.

Friday 22nd May – Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs vs Melbourne Storm

Form guide

You’d have got long odds on this being 14th vs 13th in Round 12, but that’s where we are, with both sides struggling.

The Bulldogs’ 38-16 loss to the Sharks last week was their fifth in a row. Melbourne, meanwhile, appear to have turned a corner. After seven straight losses, they’ve won their last two, and they saw off the Eels at Magic Round in a 34-8 victory.

Jacob Kiraz is back for the Bulldogs, and he takes the place of Origin-bound Stephen Crichton in a reshuffled backline.

Melbourne are missing Cameron Munster, Harry Grant and Trent Loiero to Origin, so Keagan Russell-Smith, Trent Toelau and Cooper Clarke come into the starting line-up. Alec MacDonald is back on the bench after injury, while Gabriel Satrick will make his NRL debut off the bench.

The Warriors are flying, with their 42-12 demolition of the Broncos seeing them cement 2nd spot on the ladder. They’re on a five-game winning streak.

Moses Suli is ruled out for the Dragons, so Jaydn Su’A comes straight in for him after suspension. Tyrell Sloan is back on the bench after injury.

The Warriors are without Mitch Barnett and Kurt Capewell to Origin duty, while Tanah Boyd suffered an ACL injury last week which will likely rule him out for the rest of 2026. Te Maire Martin replaces him in the halves, while Jackson Ford and Jacob Laban come into the starting side. Eddie Ieremia-Toeava, Luke Hanson and Marata Niukore join the six-man bench.

My prediction – St George Illawarra Dragons 10-24 New Zealand Warriors

The Dragons have to win a game at some point, but despite the Warriors missing a few players this week, I still can’t see the first victory coming here.

Betting tips

I like the look of the Warriors to score first, lead at half-time and win, which is 5/6. They’re also 6/5 to be leading after 10 minutes, which is worth a punt.

Saturday 23rd May – Manly Sea Eagles vs Gold Coast Titans

Form guide

Manly’s thrashing of the Tigers at Magic Round made it six wins from their last seven games, and they’ve jumped into the top four.

Nothing much changes for the Titans, whose 36-12 loss to the Knights last week was a fourth in a row. They remain 16th.

Team news

Manly are missing Tolu Koula and Haumole Olakau’atu to Origin, while Lehi Hopoate is suspended. Josh Feledy, Blake Wilson, Jackson Shereb and Brandon Wakeham come into the starting side, while Hugo Hart and Simione Laiafi join the bench. If Hart comes on, it’ll be his NRL debut.

The Titans have Tino Fa’asuamaleaui and Jojo Fifita unavailable due to Origin, so Klese Haas and Jaylan de Groot are named to start. Lachlan Ilias, Bodhi Sharpley and Adam Christensen join the bench.

My prediction – Manly Sea Eagles 38-12 Gold Coast Titans

Sunday 24th May – North Queensland Cowboys vs South Sydney Rabbitohs

The Cowboys picked up a gutsy 18-12 win over the Roosters at Magic Round to remain 7th on the ladder.

The Rabbitohs were disappointing in their 32-10 loss to the Dolphins, but they remain in 5th.

Jason Taumalolo returns for the Cowboys in place of Origin star Reuben Cotter. Braidon Burns is ruled out, so Robert Derby comes in on the wing. Viliami Vailea and Kai O’Donnell join the bench.

The Rabbitohs welcome back Alex Johnston, which is timely with Latrell Mitchell and Campbell Graham ruled out. Latrell Siegwalt comes in for his second appearance and Talanoa Penitani will make his NRL debut. Peter Mamouzelos is also back in the side, and Adam Elliott starts in place of Origin-bound Cam Murray. The Rabbitohs have a few absentees this week, and I can see that being a problem for them. The Cowboys have a couple missing of their own, but I still expect them to have too much at home.

The Cowboys should be safe with a -2 handicap at 10/11. I think they’ll win by double digits too, so the 13+ winning margin is tempting at 11/5.

Two big boosts for the Sharks, who have Ronaldo Mulitalo and Jesse Ramien back from injury. Jayden Berrell replaces Blayke Brailey, whose run of 139 consecutive games is ended by concussion, while Jesse Colquhoun replaces the injured Cam McIness.

There were 70 points between these sides in Round One, and I’m expecting another high-scoring contest here. The Rabbitohs are the team in better form and with Latrell Mitchell back, I can see them getting the win here.

The Rabbitohs are 1/1, so I’m straight on that. I like the look of over 54.5 points as well, which is 10/11.

Saturday 16th May – Wests Tigers vs Manly Sea Eagles

Form guide

The wheels may be coming off for the Tigers, who have lost their last two and conceded 96 points in the process. They’ve dropped to 6th.

Manly, meanwhile, have climbed to 5th, and last week’s 32-4 demolition of Brisbane was their fifth win in six games.

Team news

Terrell May returns for the Tigers this week, while Ethan Roberts has been added to the six-man bench.

Jamal Fogarty is back for Manly this week, so Joey Walsh drops to the six-man interchange. Jake Simpkin replaces the suspended Brandon Wakeham, while Kobe Hetherington joins the bench as he returns from concussion.

My prediction – Wests Tigers 12-20 Manly Sea Eagles

Manly have been in great form recently and I can see them continuing it here against a Tigers side who have dropped off in the past couple of weeks.

Tolutau Koula is my anytime try pick in this one at 5/6. I like the look of the Tigers to score under 10.5 points in the first half as well, which is 4/5.

The Titans have lost three in a row to drop to 16th. Thdy were beaten 28-12 by the Roosters last weekend.

Meanwhile, the Knights made it back-to-back wins with a 44-10 thrashing of the Dragons. They’re up to 8th on the ladder with that win.

Luke Sommerton replaces Sam Verrills on the Titans’ bench in the only change from last week.

The Knights are unchanged from last week’s win over the Dragons.

My prediction – Gold Coast Titans 12-24 Newcastle Knights

I can’t see the Knights not winning this one. They’re serious contenders for a top eight spot and they’ll be licking their lips at the prospect of facing a side with just two wins.

Newcastle are 11/10 to score first, lead at half-time and win, which looks the best value in this one. Anytime tryscorer odds aren’t great, but Dylan Brown looks the best pick at 11/5.

Sunday 17th May – New Zealand Warriors vs Brisbane Broncos

The Warriors had a bye last week, but they’ve won four in a row before that to cement 2nd spot on the ladder.

The Broncos’ inconsistency continued last week as they were beaten 32-4 by Manly. They’re down in 11th with a 5-5 record.

Team news

The big news from the Warriors is the absence of Luke Metcalf, who has been given permission to speak to other clubs. Elsewhere, Ali Leiataua, Mitch Barnett and Tanner Stowers-Smith all return. Roger Tuivasa-Sheck is missing through injury.

Adam Reynolds comes straight back into the Broncos’ side after concussion. Philip Coates will make his NRL debut on the wing in place of the injured Antonio Verhoeven. Jack Gosiewski is out after failing his HIA last week, so Jaiyden Hunt comes into the starting side and Josh Rogers joins the bench.

My prediction – New Zealand Warriors 26-18 Brisbane Broncos

I’m expecting a response from the Broncos after their mauling last week, but the Warriors look so strong that I can’t see them being beaten here.

The Panthers’ 30-18 win over the Raiders last weekend made it nine wins from 10 games.

As for the Dragons, their 44-10 hammering by the Knights means they’re still winless, with nine straight losses to start the year.
