I made up a inexpensive pistol magnet for my shop Ruger. I liked Quik Draw's magnet, but I could the use the $30 elsewhere.

The supplies I used were left overs from other projects, making my cost zero. However, the magnets I used are from a 2 pack of 60# magnets from Harbor Freight for $3. The hook and rivet are aluminum. I drilled the rivet out with a 1/4" bit.

I removed the tape-like covering on the bottom of the magnet and removed the adhesive with lighter fluid. There are special solvents just for adhesives if you prefer.

The coating on the magnet is 3 brushed coats of Plasti-Dip. All the metal areas covered nicely with no metal to metal contact with my Ruger.

The magnets are best installed horizontally, as the pistol would change its axis if placed on a vertical surface. I chose a hidden, horizontal area above my tool chest.

I used a 1/4" bolt through the shelf. Up top I added a 1/4" fender washer and finished with a nylock.

The Ruger is hidden completely from view unless someone is halfway up into the shop. The magnet provides a firm grip and does not wobble the pistol when shaking the wood shelf.

Access is immediate and precise.

I installed a PC half cock hammer and trigger in my 45 Colt Blackhawk, and everything works fine. Had to refit the hand to adjust the timing, and that was about it.
One thing I noticed is the cylinder won't rotate when the hammer is on half cock and the loading gate closed.
Any ideas?
The cylinder latch bolt seems to drop too soon and is back out by the time you reach half cock.

I picked up my new SR1911 last night form my FFL. While inspecting the gun, I was surprised when I looked at the Test Casing Envelope. the test shot was fired on 4-12-11. How can a gun that is in such short supply be in the system (Ruger inventory, or Distributor, or ?) for 10 months.
It doesn't bother me, but I am curious as to where this gun has been. The dealer got 4 in at the same time. I don't know the dates for the other units. i guess getting one mfg. in 2011 is a good thing (100 years)

Well, I can truly say that the SR22P with the Lasermax Uni-Max Micro Laser works as good as it looks! Took the pistol to the range today during my lunch hour, and I can truly report that the SR22 and the laser shoots as accurately as the shooter can manage. Very tight groups at 25 feet and 33 feet, my preferred distances for pistols.

Incidentally, I adjusted the laser at home to correspond to a military sight picture at 25 feet, before going to the range. The result was that I had no need whatever to adjust the laser once I got to the range.

I am also happy to report that the Uni-Max Micro was still tight on the rail after 240 rounds, and was still dead-on zeroed. No dirt on the lens either; the laser was still clean after 240 rounds.

The Uni-Max Micro and SR22P seem to be a really nice combination!
Have a bunch of builds that gotta get their first shots and yet I'm now thinking there should be another ready to bring as well. :D Have one barrel still awaiting getting drilled & tapped but maybe yet another could begin it's formation. Stock is here and I have receivers to strip (need a silver one for this planned build). Barrel is all decided on too. A decision on optics would be easy so maybe his weekend or next, I'll bite the bullet and place some orders. :)
