Within the heart of Nuvali lies “Camp N”, touted to be the eco-city’s premier outdoor adventure and team-building facility that serves as an incubation for self-discovery through obstacles and challenges testing one’s physical limits, mental abilities, and even character and values. On April 16, Camp N will be the venue for the first leg of the “AXN Ultimate Thrill 2016”, a multi-stage adventure race similar to The Amazing Race, also popularized by the AXN network. Adventurers will go through intense obstacle challenges in Camp N and the first 20 finishers will head to Boracay for the final round. Only 200 teams from Manila may join the AXN Ultimate Thrill 2016. Registration is through the AXN website.

To get to Nuvali, one can take any of the five South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) exits at Mamplasan, Sta. Rosa, Eton-Greenfield, Silangan, and Canlubang. Nuvali is also easily accessible via public vehicles from major centers like Makati, Bonifacio Global City, and Balibago.

We require that participants are in perfect physical condition to enjoy Camp N’s outdoor facilities. We strongly advise pregnant women and people with health conditions such as hypertension, cardiovascular disorders, and orthopedic problems, among others, not to use the facilities.

What is Greens & Patches?

Greens & Patches is a thriving demo organic farm and nursery spanning three hectares inside Camp N. Greens & Patches features a variety of endemic and indigenous tree and plant species. Within the coming months, we will expand activities here to include fruit and vegetable picking. We’re also proud that every single vegetable and root crop in the folk song “Bahay Kubo” can be found, enjoyed, and learned from in Greens & Patches.

This farm and nursery will also be developed into an area for art workshops, group-led meditation sessions and other serene activities.

Calling all trail fanatics and running enthusiasts, the much-awaited running event of the season is upon us once again – the Salomon X-Trail Run. Salomon X-Trail Run Pilipinas Categories

The 32km Mountain Run is targeted for trail runners with advanced trail running experience. More for the adrenaline-junkies, this route presents a mixture of different terrains, from asphalt and soil, to rocks, and mud. This category includes some river crossing, and technical ascents, a simulation of Skyrunning—the turf of Salomon. There are mandatory gears for this category: headlamp, whistle, and hydration pack/belt– all of which will be checked prior to the race. The event imposes a strict “ No Mandatory Gear, No Race” rule. Registration Fee is P1,600 which include a race bib, timing chip, Salomon X-trail technical jersey, Salomon race bag, and a post-race meal. Those who finish within the cut-off time of 7 hours will receive a Finisher’ s medal.

The 24km Mountain Run is targeted for trail runners who wish to push the boundaries of their endurance. This category presents itself as a ‘ level-up’ from the usual trail runs, as it includes technical ascents and varying terrain, simulating Skyrunning as well. The mandatory gears for this category include: headlamp, whistle, and hydration pack/belt– which will all be checked prior to the race. The event imposes a strict “ No Mandatory Gear, No Race” rule. Registration fee is P1,400 which include a race bib, timing chip, Salomon X-trail technical jersey, Salomon race bag, and a post-race meal. Those who finish within the cut-off time of 5 hours will receive a Finisher’ s medal.

The 12km Road to Trail Category, is targeted for runners with short-distance trail running experience, with the hopes of leveling-up their trail skills to a more technical level. The registration fee is P1,100 which include a race bib, timing chip, Salomon X-trail technical jersey, and a post-race meal. The cut-off time is 2.5 hours.

The 6km Road to Trail Category, is targeted to entice beginners to try the sport of trail running. Registration fee is P850, which include a race bib, timing chip, Salomon X-trail technical jersey, and a post-race meal. The cut-off time is 1.5 hours.

The Salomon X-Trail Pilipinas 2016 is a GREEN RUN. No disposables will be provided at the hydration stations.

The North Face 100 hosts the boldest trail running competition of the season, gathering the country’s top ultra-marathon runners to best it out in the Nuvali-Batangas challenge.

With the first-ever TNF100 Philippines held in 2008, the race had gone from merely having a hundred participants to nearly 2,000 as it has come to be most highly anticipated trail running event that offers a truly uniqueexperience and immensely challenging terrain. Over the years, TNF100 have had races in challenging and diverse terrains including ones in Clark, Batangas, Camsur, and Baguio, Benguet. This year, the route began and ended at Nuvali in Sta. Rosa Laguna, andencompassed the scenic trails of Tagaytay and Cavite all the way to Talisay, Batangas.

The race was divided into three categories –100km solo, 50km solo, and 22km solo –for both men and women. On Day 1, the 100k began at exactly 4:00am while the 50km began at 5:00am which required runners to traverse the trail of Nuvali. Meanwhile, Day 2 saw the most competitive runners test their mettle as they race to the finish line from Nuvali all the way to Talisay, Batangas and back to Nuvali. The following day, another batch of runners gathered at 5am for the 22km race.

In the end, the toughest and most enduring runners stood out as they proved to be the very epitome of defying one’s limits. Recognizing what could be the most pivotal point of their trail running experience, the winners were awarded with medals and trophies as well as big cash prizes and TNF products to to equip them with the necessary resources they would need to continously defy their own limits and elevate the community in the process.

In time for the event, TNF also took the chance to promote its latest innovation –the Ultra Trail 2 and the Ultra Cardiac by offering a special promotion for its participants who got 50% off their registration fees when they purchase any of the two shoes.

As the year crosses its halfway mark, Unilab Active Health (ULAH) is blazing the trail anew towards empowering progressive athletes to exceed their limits and perform better as preparations for the Run United Philippine Marathon (RUPM)—the third leg of this year’s Run United Series—get underway.

Aiming to bring the pursuit sports excellence of every progressive Filipino runner to the next level, ULAH has developed a holistic, system integrated approach to help the progressive athletes go beyond their limits, taking inspiration from four (4) key pillars: events, training, nutrition, and gear.

For RUPM 2015, ULAH will be hosting a three-day race kit claiming expo at One Esplanade in Mall of Asia from October 1 to 3, three days before the actual race day. During the event, RUPM racers will enjoy a host of exclusive perks, freebies, and discounts from participating exhibitors, as well as racing tips and advices from coaches and sports science experts.

It has been a known practice for ULAH to enhance the runners’ race experience in every Run United series since dominating the running scene four years ago. From having an exclusive lane in 2012, a tunnel finish in 2013, and a red carpet finish last year, this year’s RUPM leg will feature a start and finish area at One Esplanade, where finishers of the 42-kilometer category can savor their victory by concluding their race on a red carpet lane.

Adding to the excitement for the upcoming test of skill and endurance will be the RUPM Mentorship Kit, a level up of what ULAH gave RU2 participants. This specialized training kit will include a customized Exceed Yourself Training Plan, a comprehensive training plan created by Coach Ani de Leon-Brown—the fastest Filipina Ironman, and member and coach of Team Unilab Active Health—now integrated with a nutrition that’s designed to help runners achieve target finish more efficiently.

“This guide is a step-by-step, day-to-day progressive activity plan that will guarantee the progressive athletes a stronger finish time, provided that they religiously follow every aspect of the entire module,” says Alex Panlilio, ULAH Head and Operating Vice President. “Using the concepts from this training plan, you’ll know when to push harder, take a long run, work on cross-training, or load on a power run, as well as understand the significance of relaxation and proper recovery techniques.”

Aside from this, RUPM participants will also have the chance to do their own personalized race bib during the race, a treat that serves as a runner’s swag during the race and a valuable badge of honor post-race. Adventure's doors are officially open.

R.O.X. celebrated the best of the outdoors with the R.O.X. Outdoor Festival, held from April 18 to 19, 2015 at Bonifacio High Street. Attended by outdoor enthusiasts and converts of all kind, this two-day event marked the culmination of R.O.X.'s Get Outside campaign, which encouraged people to turn to a life of non-stop adventure.

Competitions, games, challenges, booths, shows, and workshops at the event kept excitement at a permanent high, as participating outdoor brands and organizations introduced people everything the outdoors had to offer.

One of the event's big features was the R.O.X. Zero Gravity Bouldering Competition, sponsored by premier wall-climbing group PowerUp in partnership with the Sport Climbing Association of the Philippines, Inc. (SCAPI), where bouldering champions from all over the country fought for the top title and a round-trip airfare for two to Kota Kinabalu by CebuPacific Air.

A more grueling kind of challenge met participants of Mountain Hardwear's Last Man Standing competition, staged on the first day of the festival. Fourteen hardy participants fought to stay on each of their 3-foot columns for nearly five hours as they endured various physical challenges on top of the heat of high summer. The winner took home the complete outdoor treatment: an all-expense paid trip to Coron, Palawan courtesy of Cebu Pacific Air and The Funny Lion Inn plus a complete set of gearby Mountain Hardwear.

Event-goers also proved eager to take on the rest of the festival's activities, including Fox's Pump Up the Track Challenge, The North Face's Mountain Athletics Challenge, Columbia's Trying Stuff Challenge, Salomon's Outrun the RoadChallenge, Strider's competition for kids, and other high-octane pursuits.

For people new to the outdoors, the event also offered opportunities for them to get started. Various outdoor brands, service providers, groups, and communities packed Bonifacio High Street with booths for people to jumpstart their adventure.

Those interested in niche outdoor experiences found sound advice from the event's talks and workshops, such as Liliane Cobiao's introduction to traveling around the world, Tamara Benitez and Mike Eijansantos' guide to filming the outdoors, Carla Grino's lecture on exploring the outdoors with your kid, and other highly useful topics by outdoor professionals.

Come evening, the festival switched on a more entertaining and relaxed vibe with performances by Lucille and Indio I at the amphitheater and big screen film viewings for families and groups of friends sprawled on the grass.

Without actually taking people up mountains, across open seas, or into a long and winding trail in the wild, the R.O.X. Outdoor Festival proved that the road to adventure is easy to find. It only takes a brave heart and a desire to Get Outside.

Leading trail running brand, Salomon, gathered over a thousand outdoor enthusiasts and trail runners of varying skills for an adrenaline-filled weekend

Time stopped and the earth stood still as nearly 1,500 trail runners gathered for the biggest trail running event of the season, the Salomon X-Trail Pilipinas 2015, last April 25.

For more than five years now, the Salomon X-Trail Run series has been one of the most anticipated trail running events in the Asia-Pacific Region. Held in Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan and the Philippines, it has attracted numerous participants, from newbies to hardcore loyalists of Salomon. The race’ technical trail route combines different terrain surfaces including vertical ascents, long uphill climbs with multi -surfaces of dirt, rocks, sand, and concrete paths.

On its’ 5th consecutive year, Salomon Pilipinas X-Trail events were held at Premier locations outside Metro Manila, boasting beautiful sceneries, where mountains & coastlines merge together in the race route, with more than 1,200 participants – making it one of the most well-attended trail run races in the country. And this year is no different as it surpasses previous feats – cementing Salomon’s slogan, being the “#1 in Trail Running.”

This year, the race toured the roads, hills, mountains, and valleys surrounding the beautiful enclave of Anvaya Cove, one of the country’s premiere developments in Morong, Bataan by Ayala Land Premier. New trail routes were created exclusively for the event such as trail sections overlooking the cove that are steep and technical, with sharp and loose rocks, roots, and thick foliage. To recharge lost energy, runners were blessed with a breathtaking view of the sunrise that made the experience all the more worthwhile and memorable.

As the clock struck 5:00am, trail racers for the 32km embarked on an adrenaline-filled adventure as they sped through a mixture of challenging terrains, from asphalt, to sand, to rocks, to river crossing and technical ascents. The category simulated ascents of Skyrunning races – an arena wherein Salomon dominates. Given a seven -hour cut-off time, hardcore trail runners were surely tried and tested to push their boundaries and surpass the limits.

At 5:30am, trail runners of the 24km mountain run went blazing off into the trail and were greeted with technical ascents and varying terrain which likewise simulates ascents of Skyrunning races. The cut-off time for the 24km race is five hours.

By 7:00am and 7:30am, the participants of the 12km and 6km Road -To-Trail category were tested with a unique yet introductory trail running course, which consists of road & trail routes that are likewise challenging and technical. The cut-off times for the 12km and 6km categories are two and a half hours and one and a half hours respectively.

As the Salomon X-Trail Pilipinas is a Green Run, no disposables were provided at the hydration stations and participants were required to bring their own provisions.At 11:00 am, the awarding ceremony commenced and this year’s roster of winners earned not only a range of prizes but most importantly, the ultimate sense of achievement upon taking on and conquering such a challenging feat as the Salomon X-Trail Race.

As an added, no one went home empty handed as Salomon gave away items during a raffle portion, together with awesome items from sponsors—Suunto, Otterbox, Eco x Gear and R.O.X.

Last April 18 to 19, R.O.X. proudly held its Outdoor Festival at the Bonifacio High Street, which was attended by outdoor enthusiasts, the media, and Bonifacio Global City mall goers who were all treated to a great selection of activities that are sure to trigger people’s love for the outdoors.

As the culminating event of R.O.X.’s Get Outside campaign, the Outdoor Festival aims to bring together both newbies as well as outdoor enthusiasts in one venue to get them excited with all the fun possibilities that the outdoors bring.

Various free Outdoor Talks were given at the event, featuring industry experts who were all eager to entice people to start enjoying more outdoor activities. Wanderlass Liliane Cobiao together with Eagle Creek presented the topic. The Good Habits of Globetrotting; professional photographer Winston Baltasar together with Eddie Bauer, gave out various tips and tricks through the talk, Getting Adventure’s Good Angles: An Outdoor Photography Workshop; surfer-filmmaker Tamara Benitez and Mike Eijansantos of My Life On Board, together with GoPro showed everyone the ropes of capturing incredible outdoor footage through the talk, Telling Your Adventure wi th Film; Day 2 featured talks from Carla Grino of AMCI mountaineering Club, Inc. (Exploring the Outdoors with Your Kid), Dennis Lopez of UP Mountaineers together with Osprey (Nothing But Footprints: A Guide to Responsible Adventuring),Florencio Avila of the Firefly Brigade together with Timbuk2 (Before You Bike: Road Safety and Maintenance for Cyclists).

In addition, there were also several film showings held at the event, which were all aimed at awakening one’s passion to explore, such as Lorax, Secret Life of Walter Mitty, Chasing Mavericks, and Into the Wild. For entertainment, Lucille Band and Indio I also graced the event.

Also showcased during the two-day outdoor extravaganza is the Zero Gravity Bouldering Competition sponsored by the country’s premier wall climbing facility Power-Up in partnership with SCAPI (Sport Climbing Association of the Philippines, Inc) where the country’s top bouldering champions battled it out to test their vertical limits.

Mountain Hardwear – one of the outdoor brands available at R.O.X. mounted an event bent to test the human endurance in an event called “The Last Man Standing”. True to Survivor – the reality series that started it all – tradition, fifteen contestants endured the almost 8 hours of scorching heat sta nding on a 3-feet wooden pole and willed their mind over matter power to become the Last Man Standing. The winner got to take home a complete Outdoor Experience package – an all expense paid trip to Coron, Palawan and full gears and equipment by Mountain Hardwear.

The Salomon X-Trail Run is a series of trail running events in the Asia-Pacific Region. The chosen beneficiary is Grace to be Born that was founded in August 2008 and began actual operations and service on May 9, 2009.It is a ministry dedicated to saving the unborn from abortion, providing sanctuary to unwed pregnant mothers in crisis, and temporary shelter for abandoned babies. From 1979 to the present, they have ministered to more than 200 mothers in crisis. More than 200 mothers had actually lived in their GTBB shelter and delivered babies. 1. All participants are required to complete and sign the OFFICIAL REGISTRATION FORM, DECLARATION OF FITNESS WAIVER and PARENTAL CONTENT (for Minor Participants)
2. Participants are encouraged to wear the EVENT SINGLET. Otherwise, they will be disqualified from winning rewards.
3. Participant must pin the assigned RACE BIB NUMBER at the front of your singlet. YOUR RACE NUMBER MUST BE CLEARLY VISIBLE AT ALL TIMES.
4. Medical station will be set up at the EVENT AREA. In case there is ANY PROBLEM participants should retire from the race immediately and get the attention of the marshals, ambulance, and medic around the route.
5. Race route may be subject to changes for safety and traffic reasons.
6. Participants who did not commence on the actual start of his/her race will be disqualified.
7. Participants who are under of age are required to sign the PARENTAL CONSENT WAIVER along with their guardian/parents signature.
8. All winners must be physically present to receive awards during the awarding ceremony. Organizer has the right to forfeit the winner if not physically present during the awarding.

The Sofitel Manila Half Marathon 2014 will feature 5k, 10k and 21k categories, and will be held at the Mall of Asia grounds. “The Sofitel Manila Half Marathon aims to be at par with other international marathons such as the Boston Marathon or Singapore Marathon. Brooks' Cross Country Challenge: Rolled.Crawled.Climbed.

Last May 11, 2014, I was able to ran in Tanay at Brooks Run Happy 3 Cross Country Challenge. That was real a challenge for me. I did a 10k distance. The race started at the Sierra Madre Hotel. Every one was in green and having grin on their faces after every distance send off. I was a bit nervous because, I have no idea on what will be the route like, so every step I take really took me by surprise. The rolling-5k-downhill-dirt-road-route welcomed me. Every downhill is equal to the fear that I might stumble and literally fall. I also came to a point of doing that "DNF" thing because of the fear of height and the steepness of that height. But at the back of my mind I need to finish it, because in some ways, I trained for it. That first 5k took me that shocking 40 minutes! For me that was really an achievement, my fastest 5k! But that's not the end yet, I need 5k more to finish the race.

If I got the first 5k in a flash, the next 5k took me forever! I crawled. I even used a stick that I found along the way to help me push myself up. I can't barely run. I only ran on every short flat roads that I will passed by. I walked backwards. I even stopped several times just to catch my breath. When i was on my last kilometer, I'm already celebrating, expecting that the finish line would be the same as that of where we started. But when we were asked to turn right opposite to the starting line my excitement disappeared and replaced with another question mark. So what's next? I thought I'm done. Downhill, downhill, downhill. And Tada! Obstacles! I thought I will not be able to use my gloves. Wall, tire skip, net climber, inclined wall. I made it! I passed through those obstacles. But wait, there's more! Uphill, uphill, uphill! And for the picture-sake, for me to look nice I cross that 'uphell" finish line running!

To some up, the race was well-organized, hydration every other kilometer will wait for you. Cold sponges were provided to somehow ease the hotness brought by the sun. Awesome route, the uphills and the downhills and the obstacles and most of all the scenic view, perfected it. Let's add up the prizes and surprises that were given during the post race program. I'm one lucky girl to have won that Toby's gym bag.

Philippine Air Force's 67th Anniversary Run

For the past two years, the Philippine Air Force (PAF) organized the PAF Anniversary Fun Run which attracted some 2,000 running enthusiasts. The event successfully raised funds for the dependents of Philippine Air Force Personnel who were either Killed-in-Action (KIA) or was totally incapacitated while in line of duty. This event has been an annual project of the Philippine Air Force in order to uplift the morale and welfare of its personnel and their families/dependents.

In line with that noble advocacy and as part of the 67th PAF Pre-Anniversary activities, the PAF will again conduct the “Takbo ng Hukbong Himpapawid para sa Karunungan at Kinabukasan ng Kabataan 2014” . Proceeds of the event will go to the scholarship program for the dependents of Philippine Air Force Personnel who were either Killed-in-Action or totally incapacitated while in line of duty.

Our soldiers, civilian employees, military dependents and civilians, both young and old will be participating in the said activity. This running event will surely foster camaraderie and solidarity among the members of your Air Force and civilian populace, as it is an avenue to promote good health and wellness.

The national coaches and the top ten boys and top five girls who are now the Jr. NBA All-Stars and Jr. WNBA Top 5 for the year 2014 were finally chosen last April 27 at the SM Mall of Asia Concert Hall.

The Jr. NBA and Jr. WNBA All-Stars and National coaches will be given the experience of a lifetime as they go on a trip to watch an NBA game and get the chance to meet some of their favorite NBA players. Last year, the Jr. NBA team met NBA superstar Kobe Bryant and watched a regular season game of the Los Angeles Lakers against the Memphis Grizzlies at the Staples Center.

Gordon Hayward of the Utah Jazz and WNBA Legend Tina Thompson, one of the greatest WNBA players of all time, came to Manila and helped run the National Training Camp. They also coached the second annual Jr. NBA Alumni All-Star game featuring past Jr. NBA standouts. Hayward and Thompson followed BJ Armstrong, AC Green, Luc Longley and MugsyBogues as NBA Players/ Legends who have been part of Jr. NBA-Alaska youth basketball program in the Philippines.

The best local basketball coaches, led by Alaska and PBA legend Jojo Lastimosa joined NBA coach Chris Sumner in conducting the clinics for the coaches and the players during the regional selection camps. The players were judged not just on their basketball skills but on STAR values of practicing Sportsmanship, Teamwork, positive Attitude and Respect for others at all times.

Coach Cliff Andy Tesocan of Tacloban, Leyte was named as the Jr. NBA Coach of the Year while Coach Ma. PiaDysangco of Tondo, Manila became the Jr. WNBA Coach of the Year. RhayyanAmsali of Zamboanga (but studies in Manila) and Christiana Dimaunahan of Manila were picked as Alaska Sports Youth Ambassador for the Jr. NBA and Jr. WNBA, respectively.

True North Fitness Boot Camp: Better.Stronger.Together.

Last April 26, 2014, Saturday, marks the launching of the True North Fitness Boot Camp which was held at the Army Support Command Grounds (ASCOM), Taguig City. It was arranged by the same group who is the mastermind of an upcoming event on June 29, 2014, the Guerilla Race. It will be of help for those who'll be joining the Guerilla Races, but is also open to everyone who wants to experience a military-like-training.

What Is True North Fitness Boot Camp?

The True North Fitness Bootcamp is a military-style fitness training that delivers an intimate group fitness experience. It’s all about getting fit together. While joining a group may seem daunting to some, taking TNFB will make you feel part of a pack and in a matter of minutes you’ll be drawing strength and having fun with your fellow bootcampers as you jump over, crawl under, and run around obstacles with them. TNFB offers a highly sociable way to health and fitness, so you’ll get plenty of opportunities to get to know your fellow participants after each session.

The training started at around 6 o'clock int he morning with all the stretching, and warm-ups which led by some of the Soldiers. Among the participant is Chris Everingham, a Philippine Volcano athlete and also the endorser for both TNFB and Guerilla Race. "Basic" military exercises were introduced. If I will be asked for the level of difficulty, as for me who is not really used to these calisthenic moves, i'd categorized it as difficult , lung bursting, back-breaking and punishing. But all in all, it was really fun and energizing!

Alaska shines spotlight on country's best young basketball players

From the Regional Selection Camps and Alaska Basketball Power Camps all over the country, - participated in by more than 80,000 boys, girls, and coaches - the top 50 boys and top 24 girls will undergo final selection on April 25 and 26 at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) Forum. The national coaches will be selected and also the top ten boys and top five girls will be named Jr. NBA and Jr. WNBA All-Stars on April 27 at the SM Mall of Asia Concert Hall.

The hardworking players and coaches will be given the experience of a lifetime as they go on a trip to watch an NBA game and get the chance to meet some of their favorite NBA players. Last year, the Jr. NBA team met NBA superstar Kobe Bryant and watched a regular season game of the Los Angeles Lakers against the Memphis Grizzlies at the Staples Center.

Gordon Hayward of the Utah Jazz and WNBA Legend Tina Thompson, one of the greatest WNBA players of all time, will be in Manila to help run the National Training Camp. They will also coach in the second annual Jr. NBA Alumni All-Star game featuring past Jr. NBA standouts. Hayward and Thompson follow BJ Armstrong, AC Green, Luc Longley and MugsyBogues as NBA Players/ Legends who have been part of Jr. NBA-Alaska youth basketball program in the Philippines.

The best local basketball coaches, led by Alaska and PBA legend JojoLastimosa joined NBA coach Chris Sumner in conducting the clinics for the coaches and the players during the regional selection camps. The players were judged not just on their basketball skills but on STAR values of practicing Sportsmanship, Teamwork, positive Attitude and Respect for others at all times.

The Regional Selection Camps were conducted at Stadia Convention Center, Dagupan; Palawan State University, Puerto Princesa, Palawan; St. Paul University, Surigao; Ateneo De Iloilo; Sacred Heart School-Ateneo De Cebu; and the PICC Forum Tent, Metro Manila.

Wilfred Steven Uytengsu, President and CEO of Alaska Milk Corporation praised the continuing partnership between Alaska and the NBA, which has helped develop the sport and young boys, and girls become better individuals and productive members of society.

Mixing It Up At The Salomon XTrail Run 2014

From novice to advanced trail enthusiasts, it was another event-filled weekend as runners of varying capabilities participated in the highly-anticipated Salomon XTrail Run 2014.

As a performance brand for mountain sports, Salomon has been consistently the top of mind for many when it comes to trail gear. This was particularly eminent in the recently-concluded Salomon XTrail Run 2014, which was held in Hamilo Coast in Batangas for the second time around.

This category boasts a number of vertical ascents in varying terrain, simulating the technicalities of Skyrunning, the turf where Salomon dominates in. With this year’s registered participants reaching around 1,500, the Salomon Xtrail Run 2014 proved to be another success. Tulong Na Tabang Na Tayo Na Takbo Na!

Last November 8, 2013, a very powerful tropical typhoon hits the Visayas Region of the Philippines, leaving it empty. Houses were shattered and almost 100% of its livelihood vanished. But inspite of all of these, Filipinos didn't loose hope. God is really good. Help from different part of the country started pouring as soon as the news reached them. Thus, ABS-CBN came up with the TULONG NA TABANG NA TAYO NA campaign that aims to help the victim of the typhoon Yolanda.

Come May 4, 2014, another event from ABS-CBN's radio counterpart, DZMM, will happen for the same cause.

The Food and Nutrition Research Institute (FNRI) study revealed that obesity, which can lead to serious heart problems and diabetes at a young age is becoming one of the most prevalent nutritional problems of Filipino children and adults.

Given these growing issues on health, Alaska continues their partnership with Jr. NBA this year to nurture young boys, and girls, become better individuals and encourage them to embrace a healthy lifestyle not just by drinking milk but also by leading an active lifestyle through sports.

The 2014 Jr.NBA presented by Alaska, the international youth development program of the NBA, formally launched last January 18. School clinics were conducted allowingaspiring championsin the country to be part of NBA’s international youth development program. Young girls were given the same trainings and opportunities as Jr. NBA participants because in these modern times, girls are just as interested in sports, especially basketball, as the boys. Led by some of the best local basketball coaches, like JojoLastimosa, PBA legend and Alaska Head of Basketball Operations, together with theNBA coaches led by Sefu Bernard in travelling all over the country to conduct school clinics for coaches and players.

Our aspiring champions will again undergo series of trainings at theRegional Selection Camp (RSC) in Surigao, Iloilo, Cebu, Dagupan, Palawan and Manila. The RSC is where the best of the best players in key cities will be selected and asked to participate in the third and climactic part of the program – the National Training Camp (NTC).

The 10 young boys and 5 young girls of Jr. NBA/Jr. WNBA presented by Alaska All-Star Philippine Team will be chosen at the end of the NTC. These young championswill then begiven the ultimate NBA experience by getting the chance to watch a live NBA game and meet the NBA players. Last year, the Jr. NBA All-Star Philippine team watched a Los Angeles Lakers home game against the Memphis Grizzlies at the Staples Center and met NBA superstar Kobe Bryant.

The Jr. NBA/ Jr. WNBA presented by Alaska, is just one of Alaska’s Sports Development Program that inspires children to become future champions through teaching them skills to play the game while incorporating the values of determination, hard work, teamwork, discipline and sportsmanship.
