I’m excited for the summer and quite honestly I have a very different and more positive attitude than I have had in the past. I truly enjoy being around my kids – until they drive me crazy. They’re at that age where they’re so much fun (they’re about to be 11 and 9), but they’re also bickering with each other constantly and testing my limits as they’re gaining more and more independence.

A few weeks ago when I was channeling my inner princess at the Disney Social Media Moms Celebration one of the speakers shared something that is responsible for steering my attitude (and gratefulness) in the right direction.

You only have 18 summers with your children at home for family vacations.

You need to make the most of them.

Wow. Amy Foster, the director of Disney Destinations and Disney Parks Consumer Insights, made most of the moms’ jaws drop with that simple yet sobering little thought.

Let’s do the math. My oldest is turning 11 this month, so that leaves me with 7 summers. GASP!

Yes, I plan on staying involved in his life and will be taking my future grand-darlings to Magic Kingdom for many summer vacations so I’m not trying to be dramatic here, but it’ll be different because MY kids won’t be KIDS anymore.

Sometimes we might know things but we may take them for granted until they are brought to our attention. I’m so thankful that Ann dropped this gem on me and I’m happy to share it with you. I’m going to enjoy my little people even more this break; and I’ll remind myself of “18 summers” when if they start pulling on my patience.

This week is National Women’s Health Week coordinated by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Office on Women’s Health. The theme for this year is “It’s Your Time,” and the goal is to empower women to make health a top priority.

Yes, I LOVE that.

As part of National Women’s Health Week today is National Women’s Checkup Day. When is the last time you had a physical and/or paid a little visit to the gynecologist? You can’t take care of your family properly if you’re not taking care of yourself.

Today I challenge you to lead by example and make sure you’re up to date on all of your wellness exams. If there’s something that you’ve been meaning to have checked call and schedule it now.

It is YOUR time.

Make it a priority to take care of YOU.

A BlenderBottle. Fun!

Yes, I’m excited to but this baby to good use as I love drinking protein shakes after my strength training workouts but don’t always want to clean use the blender. It will be perfect for when I’m on the go and working out at Atlanta Fitness Diva again. It’s important to feed your muscles protein immediately after working them out (within 30 minutes is ideal).

So now I’m on a protein smoothie recipe hunt. I’ve already found a few from my friends in Udi’s Gluten Free Living Community. I’m a community leader there and even thought I’m not gluten free I’ve found it to be an awesome resource for great recipes, entertaining ideas and we have a blast on our live chats. Peanut butter and bananas seem to be popular in the smoothie thread; oh and lots of berries and greek yogurt, too. You can check them out for yourself at Udi’s Gluten Free Living Community; and if you know of any good protein smoothie recipes please do share. I’m ready to SHAKE things up a bit …
