Full page illustration for Louis Fishauf at Global Brief magazine for an article about the future of intelligence gathering in the 21st century, what are the key questions and what are the different worlds (stable vs. messy vs. nasty) we might look at in the future. Tons of fascinating ideas to work with on this one, after a few sketches we concentrated on the 3 specific future worlds to get to the final. Washingtonian - Private Schools feature

The perfect kid (full page intro)| Washingtonian

I created 3 illustrations for an article on private schools for Michael Goesele and Thomas White at the Washingtonian. The opening full page illustration deals with the pressure to make the perfect kid, with perfect grades to get into the best private school. Michael suggested the idea of using a diamond based on a line in the first paragraph about a parent feeling as if he were raising a diamond, not a child. After a round of sketches and combining two ideas we had it.

This one was about tough admissions at private high schools. Originally the sketch was based on a line in the article comparing the process to that of being at a Senate confirmation. Later we changed it to reflect more of an interrogation.

Illustrated a feature for Joele Cuyler at Real Simple about various exercise routines and how each alter your mood. This was a really fun assignment, I loved working with a limited colour palette.

Here's my contribution to the Garbage Pail Kids group show at Gallery 1988. The show runs until Oct 1st at their Melrose location. I have a limited edition of 10 signed and numbered prints available through the gallery and can be purchased here.

Each artist was asked to pick a character from the vintage card series and recreate that character in your own style. It was hard to choose but my love of comics pulled me in the direction of picking Blair for my piece.

In the doghouse | Indianapolis Monthly

Here's my latest illustration for Indianapolis Monthly. This time the writer tells us about his wonderful childhood dog and the difficulties he faces with his current one. I was asked to switch up the colouring, maybe do something more graphic and simple instead of the a fully coloured approach I've been working with in my previous illustrations. I jumped at the opportunity. Since I've been working on this comic I've wanted to do something similar in my commercial work. I've recently completed an illustration for the Wall Street Journal in the same manner and I'm looking forward to doing more like this.

Pee Wee | Gallery 1988

Here's my contribution to the Pee Wee Herman group show at Gallery 1988. The opening reception is this Friday July 29th, 7pm - 10pm at Gallery 1988 Venice, 214 Pier Ave, Santa Monica, CA. I'll be in LA at the end of the week and plan to attend the opening on Friday night. Looking forward to seeing all the art in person and hope to meet some of the other artists and if I'm lucky Paul Reubens too.

I'm supper excited about this show. I love Pee Wee, when I was eight years old I quit my karate classes because they took place at the same time Pee Wee's Playhouse aired on TV. I may not be able to chop wood with my hand but the creative spark that show ignited in me lasts to this day. There are very few things that truly amaze but for me this is one of them.

There will be a few signed prints available from Gallery 1988.

Illustration for Saralynne Precht at Fit Pregnancy for an article about how to manage your mother-in-law. Love working with Saralynne and loved working on this piece. I was really happy they went for the monster sketch. Part of the article suggests giving your mother-in-law an active role. I used that for the illustration, having the mother pick out the car seat.

I recently created these illustrations for The Economist's 'Where do you Stand?' campaign. The ads will sit along side each other in the London Underground encouraging commuters to consider the issue and pick up the magazine.

Since I live in Toronto I won't see these ads in the Underground. So if you come across them, please send me photos. I have 5 of these letterpress prints that I am happy to mail out to the first five people to email photos of the ads.
