In fact, this is the book I wish I had when I first decided to pursue a career in web design. Most, if not all of what I learned in college covered theory and application, not so much the business side of design. I learned how to design and build a web site; not how to write a contract, how to work with clients, and/or how to get paid for my work. Mike Monteiro, co-founder of Mule Design covers these and more in "Design is a Job", the most recent book in the A Book Apart series. One of the most alluring and refreshing aspects (aside from his first-hand experience and personal anecdotes) of this book is the fact that Monteiro doesn't sugar coat things; he tells it like it is. There will be things that you have to do that you find uncomfortable (firing a client, firing an employee, presenting a project, discussing money), there will people that are difficult to work with, you will screw up, there will be days you want to bang your head against a wall. You get my point.

Review: A Book Apart, Designing for Emotion by Aarron Walter

Books/Magazines

Internet

Reviews

Web Design

A Book Apart

A List Apart

aarron walter

design

emotion

psychology

Ryan’s Rating: With so much emphasis placed on the technical side of creating web sites, it’s quite easy to forget about the human aspect.
