At the 4th of December 2011 was the 日本語能力試験　or Japanese Language Proficiency Test which I participated in too.
And after three months of waiting my score report finally arrived in my mail box. The last time I failed and I only got a small envelope. This time I got a big one and I was rather confident. But they community college where the exam took place could have sent some information material too. I was still nervous while opening.

So I was really, really happy when I saw that I got a certificate for passing level N5. A lot of people say N5 is worthless but I don’t think so. N5 was my motivation to keep studying. I now achieved something million of people never will in their lifetime.
Sure, I didn’t pass with much fanfare but 67% was more than enough to pass this time. And now I can start to study for N4 level.
But I realized that grammar is my weak point. There was so many patterns I never saw in my textbook and so I decided to visit language school at our community college once again. But this time I will make sure that the teacher is a native Japanese. And I guess I will not visit beginner classes again. I will ask my community college if I can attend a higher class.
The next JLPT will be in summer this year but I will skip this one. Half a year is way too short and I will probably not take the test in December this year too. Summer 2013 seems to be the best choice.

がんばります。

2011 has come to an end and 2012 has started.

I can look back at a year with many ups and a few downs.

At the beginning of 2011 I was on a quest to desperately search for a new job after I quit working at the airport in 2010.

Took me quit a while until someone gave me a slight chance to show my talents. Almost everyone said “no” before even talking to me. That was a huge down and was not very motivating.

This quest reached its end at the end of June after a traineeship of two weeks. I found a new working place at an internet agency and I can now do what I like to do. Building websites. Since this is an apprenticeship I have to go to school twice a week. Which gave me a strange feeling at first because I left school in 2006. But my little fishing boat is sailing in the right direction. In really enjoy my new work and even school is passable. Well, one subject is plain boring and useless but can’t be helped.

In 2011 I also decided to challenge myself again in studying japanese. In 2008 I was serious and attended a japanese class but it was horrible. I quit it. After my trip to Tokyo in 2009 I got serious again but had little time to study. I participated in the JLPT Level 4 and failed. My motivation was once again somewhere else after I got the results. But this year, I guess it was April or something, my motivation came back and this time it went really smooth. Was still at the very beginning but somehow I used another method. I finally got the good parts of using an SRS which helped out a lot.

After two years I decided to retry the JLPT N5 (Level 4) and It was rather easy expect a few questions. There was stuff I hav never seen. But I guess that is possible when self studying. I want my score card to arrive soon!

The year 2011 was also the most busy year travel wise. I picked up the Weiss Schwarz TCG in 2010 and traveled to Dortmund for the first time this April to meet a lot of comrades who play the cardgame too and who organize tournaments. It is even recognized by bushiroad and the Tournament Organizer is the european champion and was first runner up at the world cup held in Tokyo.

Visited a bunch of anime conventions too. The Dokomi, which I visited for the first time, the animagic and the J-Day.

In 2012 I want to visit some more.

2011 was great in its own way and I hope 2012 be even better. I wish you all a happy new year.
