Monitoring log files with tail -f

The Unix command tail by default prints the last 20 lines of a text file if combined with the option -f it will monitor de file in real time.

tail -f messages.log

This will list the last 20 lines of messages.log in real time with the usage of -f (follow) option.

Linux Disk Usage Information

Yesterday i needed to check the disk usage information for one of my backup servers, that can be archived with the command:

df -h

df - Disk Free -h - human-readable print sizes in human readable format (e.g., 1K 234M 2G)
