Have you ever wondered where Sage stores the forms and reports used by the program? This information can be handy to know if you are modifying these forms/reports outside of the Sage 100 ERP program

Heres the scoop:

- The original standard forms and reports are in \MAS90\REPORTS

- After a STANDARD form or report is printed – they are stored in \MAS90\MAS_XXX\REPORTS\NAME\STANDARD (Where XXX = the there character Sage 100 ERP company code).

- Forms or reports that you save to a different code are stored in \MAS90\MAS_XXX\FORM OR REPORT NAME\FORM OR REPORT CODE

- LEGACY MODULES:

- Original forms are in \MAS90\REPORTS

- After printing – \MAS90\REPORTS\###-### (all users, all companies)

- After printing – \MAS90\REPORTS\###-XXX (all users, specific companies)

I just spotted the following news about a potential conflict with an anti-virus program on the Sage Community forum:

Hi all.

We have received a good number of support calls this morning (May 25, 2012), all with these two things in common:

1. One or more users cannot log into Sage 100 ERP (Sage ERP MAS 90 or 200). As soon as they enter the login and password, nothing happens or they may get a message that Launch32.exe is missing.
2. They are all using VIPRE Antivirus Software. Apparently VIPRE is considering Launch32.exe to be a Trojan. This is a False Positive.

Depending on the policy in effect, VIPRE either blocks the program from running, so some workstations (especially those that have rebooted recently) have the problem while others may not until they reboot; or it will quarantine the file, removing it completely.

Status Update!
Sunbelt Security (maker of VIPRE) is aware of this False Positive. They intend to have a definition update released this afternoon.
http://supportforums.sunbeltsoftware.com/messageview.aspx?catid=219&threadid=9275&forumid=2

Possible Workaround
You likely will have to access Task Manager (Start / Run / Taskmgr, then go to the Processes tab) to perform an End Process on the Pvxwin32.exe task on the workstation, as it continues to run though the user cant get into Sage 100 ERP.

Go into the VIPRE console and select Policy Properties. For each policy, whether for server or workstation, go to Exceptions, select Exclusions, then Add a folder: ..\MAS90 folder, and Add a file: Launch32.exe to be excluded. (Note: This also means if the file really becomes infected, VIPRE would not know.)

If Launch32.exe Is Missing (Quarantined)
If the Launch32.exe file IS removed, try to take it back out of quarantine. Or, restore a copy of Launch32.exe from backup, if possible. (Note: The VIPRE software CAN quarantine the file when you are in the process of moving or restoring, so you may need to temporarily disable the software while you get that done.)

This will probably pay for the price of Sage Summit 2012 for some

If you would like to build your network of people who are:
a. Smart
b. Active
c. Willing to help you with questions

This is the place to do it.

At Sage’s Summit 2012 they have an event on Tuesday later in the afternoon where people share group tables to discuss issues of importance.

Tip:

- Join a table
- Take names of the smart ones
- Keep in touch

I did this YEARS ago and now have connections to some of the smartest minds in the Sage channel.

Sage at that time did not have tables to meet like minded people – so I had to roam the halls or rely on others to make the connections.

Sage City sounds like it’s going to do most of the heavy lifting for you and create groups that you can join to discuss various Sage technical issues.

The payback on this is 100x what you will spend on the conference.

The first time you are sitting in your office asking ” hey I wonder if anyone else who is in a similar business has figured out — [ insert error, third party solution, difficult problem]” …. this type of contact gathering will pay for itself.

I just received the following notice from V-Technologies who are the publisher of the Starship shipping software used by many Sage 100 ERP customers.

If you are using Starship and are not yet on version 12 – you should make plans to upgrade or face the potential loss of FedEx shipments.

In most cases we recommend you have V-Technologies manage the upgrade process which requires an additional fee paid directly to them. Please coordinate through us (or your Sage partner).

Here’s the information that was just received:

5/8/2012
Dear StarShip Reseller:
FedEx tells us that one or more of your clients is showing recent shipment activity using the FedEx Internet (API) module with StarShip v9.

So why are we telling you this?
Because FedEx will retire all transactions on May 31, 2012. This means that our mutual customer(s) will lose the ability to ship FedEx packages (in StarShip v9) after that date!! No labels on boxes, no boxes out the door!

Both FedEx and V-Technologies have been making efforts to notify these customers to no avail. We thought it would be worthwhile to make you aware since we believe this could have significant impact on their business.

What should a customer do?
Migrate to StarShip v12. This supports the latest FedEx technology and will allow for uninterrupted shipping! This FedEx interface also provides additional features such as FedEx SmartPost, Electronic Trade Documents and support for Ground HazMat.

For your convenience we are including a list of your clients showing FedEx Internet usage:

Earlier today we had some discussion on our 90 Minds group chat about an issue where the paperless office feature of Sage 100 ERP would work in one instance of printing an invoice payment selection register direct from the menu but not when using a shortcut from the check maintenance screen.

Jeff Schwenk replied that the easy fix is as follows:

Use data file display and maintenance (be sure to backup first as these changes are all “behind the scenes” and NOT reversible):

Paperless Print Settings.

To modify report so that it launches paperless printing, modify field 18 in SY_Task.m4t.
Journals/Registers – 1
Report Viewer – 5
Period End – 6
Invoice Printing – 2

Your paperless invoice payment selection register should now print to paperless in both of the above situations.

Are you classifying contractors properly? Do you know when it is permissible to pay someone as a subcontractor (aka 1099) versus employee?

I just received a “cheat sheet” from Corrine Nadolny of Paychex. The document gives an explanation of some rules about when your company should be adding works to the payroll – and when it might be permissible to pay them as independent 1099 subcontractors.

The main issue with these rules is that generally companies don’t withhold employment taxes on 1099 subcontractors. That makes it cheaper for a company to classify a worker as 1099 vs full employee.

Correctly classifying workers BEFORE they start work is the key. Download this free document and review some of the key items to consider when making these classifications. And as always, please refer to your tax or legal professional for final assistance with determining employment status.

My friend and 90 Minds colleague Ed Wlodarczyk of Jacksonville Florida based Ennis, Pellum & Associates has a nice post that documents the steps users of Sage 100 ERP can take in order to send ACH electronic payments from within their accounting software.

Increase your efficiencies, improve your cash management, reduce operating costs and lessen the risk of lost or stolen checks by paying vendors electronically using an ACH file created from the Accounts Payable module. Enable ACH electronic payments, define how they will be handled by your company, and the type of information that will be transmitted to your financial institution.

You have the flexibility to select and set up one or more financial institution(s) for your electronic payments, and for each one you select, define the format and layout of the ACH file. The feature includes pre-note functionality, and flexibility in your electronic payment distribution, including options to allocate amounts between one or more accounts.

ACH information on processed payments, historical information and vendors paid electronically is available on AP Reports. They can include auto checks, manual checks, voided checks, reversals, credit card transfers, electronic payments, wire transfer information in any combination.

This enhancement was added to version 4.4 Product Update 2 as an incorporation of the prior Sage Extended Solution AP-1063. There is no additional cost to use the feature , including creating the transmission file, as it’s included as part of the base program.

Sending electronic payments is a great timesaver for any company issuing many expense checks to remote employees and for situations where vendors request ACH payment.

If you are upgrading from an earlier version of Sage 100 ERP to v4.5 you might notice that your \reports\###-### and \reports\###-XXX (where XXX is the company code) might not migrate from the earlier version of Sage 100.

Here’s a copy of a post I made about two weeks ago on the Sage 100 ERP LinkedIn Group. This gathered quite a few references from consultants who’d run into the same thing.

The \reports\###-### folder holds modified forms for non-framework modules and some custom reports which users have attached to their menus.

Until resolved , the workaround is to manually copy this folder from your older Sage 100 implementation.

Schulz Consulting has been asked to present at Sage’s annual Sage Summit customer and partner conference being held August 12-14, 2012 in Nashville, TN.

The title of our presentation is “How to make money while friending, blogging and checking in”.

From the session summary:

Tue, 8/14: 2:00 PM – 3:15 PM
B-0794
Panel
Tuesday, August 14
Everyone talks about social media, but few people show you how they’ve made money making friends, blogging, and checking into their favorite hangouts. Attend this discussion to listen to how Sage partners have leveraged social media technology tools to either gain new business, cut costs, or improve the effectiveness of traditional marketing campaigns.

If your efforts to gain a return on your social media strategies have stalled, attend this session to restart your engine. We’ll talk about blogging (no more cold calls: Blogging can get customers to come to you, with a check in hand), email newsletters (possibly the best drip marketing tool every invented), and social media tools that work (and ones that we’ve found that don’t work).

We’ll also talk about ways the participants keep their social media efforts fresh, how to come up with blog topics that generate sales and some of best ways to save time yet remain active in social media.”

Objectives
Eliminating Cold Calls

Retaining Customers

Improving Closing Ratios

Sage have just updated the roadmap for Sage 100 ERP (Formerly Sage ERP MAS 90, MAS 200, MAS 200 SQL) as of April 2012. This document provides general guidance (subject to change) on expected new features and overall product direction for the Sage 100 product line.

Some observations on future direction:

Expect the following overall development cycle:

Two of the bigger changes may be the addition of Sage 100 ERP Shipping my SmartLinc. This replacement for the prior Starship solution (still supported independently by V-Technologies) features a completely web based on-premises and cloud based shipping solution. Complete carrier and shipping support for US and Canada, rate shopping, email notifications and Bill of Lading (BOL).

Integration of SmartLinc is via the Business Object Interface.

Also expected is a Sage ERP Payroll module for SQL. This standalone payroll module will integrate only to Sage 100 Premium (fka Sage ERP MAS 200 SQL).

Sage Payments via Sage Exchange is slated to play an even bigger role in the processing of Sage 100 ERP credit card transactions. Payment data is removed from the software and instead stored in the Sage vault for tighter security and easier compliance with what seem like ever changing credit card processing rules.

Here’s a pesky issue that my 90 Minds colleague Mark Kotyla just resolved after many hours of head scratching by our group and by tech support.

[Providex][ODBC Driver][PVKIO] Logon Failed.

This error displays when accessing any BIE in MAS 200 4.5 PU3 (either on server or TS session). I’ve seen threads on this topic for Crystal Reports, but all reports print fine. Only BIE is affected.

Several suggestions from our group suggested:

Re-run workstation setup

Pay attention to system security

None of the conventional suggestions worked. Mark opened a case with Sage.

Ultimately his resolution was:

After several hours of trying this and that, I noticed that MAS was launching in XP Compatibility mode. Once disabled, error went away. MAS 200 4.3 on same server (2008 R2) works fine in compatibility mode. Appears that only 4.5 (all PU’s) has this issue.

One of the members of my 90 Minds Group had a great recommendation yesterday.

His customer was reviewing the annual charges for credit card processing when he noticed a monthly $25 fee for non-compliance with PCI requirements. Upon questioning Sage

Payment Services, this is the response that they received:
I noticed you are paying a $25 Non Compliance fee each month. In order to remove this, please go to: https://pci.trustwave.com/action.php to obtain your PCI DSS certification. Once you are certified, we will be automatically notified, and the $25 monthly fee will stop. If you have any PCI questions or need help navigating through that site, please call our 24 hour help desk at 800-239-2468.

Recommendation:

If you are using Sage Payments for processing of credit card and other payments – check your statement. If you are receiving a $25/mo fee for non-compliance – be sure to visit the link above to self-assess and possibly remove that fee.

There is no better reason to attend Sage’s annual Summit (customer and partner conference) than to meet your peers and network with some of the smartest minds.

Seven years ago during Sage’s conference I met people who I’ve kept in touch with over the years. Today our group has grown to 100+ members and we’re connected in real time 24 x 7 to help each other answer technical questions about Sage products.

None of this would have happened without the chance for us to meet in person at Sage’s conference.

If you’ve ever wished that you could compare notes about your use of Sage products with like mined users – here is your opportunity. Our 90 Minds group have even organized our own mini-conferences (the last conference, shown below, was in February 2012 at the offices of DSD Business Systems).

This year’s Sage Summit event is being held August 17-21, 2012 in Nashville TN (directly behind the Grand Ole’ Opry).

I’ll be hosting a panel presentation on the ways people are making money using Social Media as their main marketing tactic.

Each morning at 6am I walk with a group of two or three people (attire is strictly bed head and shorts). We mull over the content from the prior day’s sessions, discuss the sessions that we’re going to attend – and make plans for the evening events. Here we are from last year’s conference in Washington DC. That’s me, Peter Wolf and Robert Wood. Last year we even recorded our thoughts about the conference during our morning walks (listen here).

Want to improve your use of Sage products? Are you a Sage partner wondering what other partners are doing to improve customer satisfaction? You can sit back in the office and keep wondering – or head out to the conference and find out for yourself. Below is a picture from the LinkedIn gathering sponsored during Summit 2011 by Sage .

Here’s a nice solution to a somewhat rare printing problem one of my 90 Minds group members ran into.
The problem appeared in Sage 100 ERP (Formerly Sage ERP MAS 90 and 200) Versions 4.40 and 4.50 versions. These systems both stopped printing ANYTHING from a Business Framework module (forms, reports) and started giving an error 200 in SY_ReportCommon.pvc line 611 in 4.5 and line 596 in 4.4.

Sage says to uninstall and reinstall WKSETUP. Did that. Reinstalled EVERYTHING in 4.4. Including up to PU8.
Here’s what worked:

Via – Alnoor Caassim – Call for Help

It’s trying to create the Crystal runtime object and for BF the main file behind that is CRAXDRT.DLL (the CRPE32.DLL is for legacy). Try to manually register that DLL which is typically in C:\Program Files (x86)\Business Objects\Common\3.5\Bin and the version for it laid down by MAS (as see in properties) is 11.5.something. If you get errors registering the DLL, look for multiple versions of it.
