I thought about how to rework this for most of the day. I got a little bit of cutting time done and got the red birds done. My new plan is to get the three cages done and then keep making cages until I run out of time. I am trying not to overthink this.

Day 171 – Blueberry has been sold. The print will be available for $25 unframed or $55 framed each (+shipping) and is part of a run of 100 and has a hand-cut signature. Email for availability and payment directions or for more information. It will be a few weeks until I have a print ready – I first need to receive and approve a proof; though if you are interested send me an email and we can get the order going.

So here is the start of something new and different. Since not being to work so far due to my involvement with artomatic I need to build of my callus to make cutting easier. I wanted to work on something a bit freeform and out of my traditional comfort zone, so I started to work on this. I like where part of it is going – but not the other part. So I think I am going to scrap the big red bird and move into a triptych form with the red bird being small like the others or making many more small birdcages and small birds – have not decided just yet. I originally was shooting for a full frame 20″ x 20″ work to be in a shadow-box type frame. I am hoping to get this done in the next day or two so that I can hang it for the “Wall Mountables”  show held by DCAC.

The one cool thing I do like with the red bird is the texture I gave it. I cut a slew of ‘feathers’ and used the leftover part instead of the part I cut. I will probably keep the bird as is and see if it inspires me for another work.

Being interviewed was a a lot of fun. Jolene is also a lot of fun. This was taken at Artomatic’s Meet the Artists Night that was held on June 13, 2009. I went all out for the event with my outfit.

My big news – we have adopted a new cat. I was hoping to wait until artomatic was over but we fell in love with a rescue. We have not decided on a name yet – but have been calling him Thundercat. He is a beautiful gray and white shorthair. He is quite large and weighs in at 21lbs – he is going on a diet. I am hoping to get him a kitty harness and take him for a walk. He is loving and quite sweet!!!!

–Art News–
Artomatic has kept me very busy and have not had studio time. I have been working on getting some applications submitted. I got all my images ready for the Maryland State Arts Council Individual Artist Grants. I have applied for this the past four times and with this application I can see how much my work has improved. I also am getting other applications together.

Also I will be having some works exhibited at the Prince George’s Publick Playhouse next month. More details on this when everything is set up.

There is an article about me and my work on the Herald Sun online paper. Check out the article online. The article is in tied to my show which opened on Friday in Durham, NC. Reminder the reception for the show is this coming Friday.

Got back from our two-day trip to Durham to hang my newest show – “Running with Scissors”. The venue is great and I am really happy with the way the show looks. Opening Reception next Friday, June 19 from 5-7. >> more information <<

I am so sorry for not blogging for so long. This has been a crazy insane weekend. We had over 10,000 people on Friday and Saturday alone come through artomatic. I had hoped to be able to socialize a bit during the event, but instead I was running around hauling beer. We went through over 188 cases of beer in one night.

For the past five days I have been on-site working. I do not think I have ever done this amount of physical labor before. I am enjoying my first day off and resting up – my feet and legs feel like cement blocks.
