Three things on my mind now:

Yesterday (Friday) was my first music practice for this Saturday's Tertiary service.

   I want to do well.

The TNS Blog is sort of 'set up'. I want to quickly gain support to have the green light to make it a real TNS Blog, not just an empty shell.

I am going to revamp this blog. I am considering buying a domain name and making it my own website.

Till then, I guess my blog is as good as dead. Seems like nobody reads it. LoL...

4J Class Gathering

Had class gathering yesterday night.

We had dinner at Cha Cha Cha, a Mexican restaurant in Holland Village. Then, we moved to a Starbuck cafe. I realized that in Holland Village, a shop's brand can be found at several locations! I saw 2 Starbucks, and 2 Mr. Bean! Maybe there're more!

It's been a long time since I met them. I think this is my first gathering with my class after we graduated from AHS. I was from Anglican High School. Most of the girls just graduated from University. I'm 1 year slower than my peers, 'cos they went to Junior College. I went to Polytechnic. Guess what, I'm just going to start my university this year. Ha.. Glad to see them. They haven't change much, especially the guys. Fun, as usual.

My First Domain

Today marks the day when I first own a domain!

I'm still trying to figure out how to use it, so I'm not gonna say the domain name here, for now.

This is how I start my first domain:

I bought this domain from godaddy.com at USD 6.95, with the help of dealtaker.com.

Then, I sign up at Dreamhost with a promo code found here. I was comtemplating between Bluehost and Dreamhost, when I saw this page in my research. I also saw one of the youtube videos I searched regarding buying domain here. Anyhow, I ended up with Dreamhost.

Three main things I learnt in buying domain:

Choose a unique and relevant domain name, that is easy to remember.

Hopefully, it is a Top Level Domain (TLD), e.g. .com, .net, .org.

The domain has a clean track record in its online history. Archive.org is useful to check that out.

Now, I'm still trying to figure out how to do my website. For now, I just want to make this website function-able with a blog, an email, a contact form, and probably some tweaking of design. Now, this blog is used with Wordpress.org. So much to learn...

Setting Up My Website

As I mentioned in the earlier post on "My First Domain", I am still in the progress of doing it up.

Take note that I might not be posting as often as I usually do. Maybe only once a week, or even not.

Occasionally, I may post what I learnt in the midst of setting up my website, just for recording sake.

Discoveries In Setting Up Website

Introduction:

I bought my domain at GoDaddy.

My domain host is DreamHost.

Discoveries:

1. When I create a folder in my FTP server, it become a directory.

E.g.

Let's name a domain example.com

ftp.example.com is the FTP server, where all my website's files are stored.

There exists a folder named "example.com" inside the server.

When I create a folder, e.g "about", inside "example.com", the URL of example.com/about/ will become valid. It will not show "Proxy Error" or "Not Found".

2. When I upload a index.html file unto any folder, it shows as the index of the page.

E.g.

Particularly the "example.com" or "about" inside "example.com".

By default, without a index.html file in the folder, the directory simply shows a desolate page with the links to the parent directory and/or any sub-directory.
