Saturday, August 6th, big Summer bash in Fuga Dóleo shop, the coolest "garage" in town, where you can find 6 top national rock n' roll DJs: Carlos deLuxe, GoGo Man, Miss Sailorette, Señorita Scarlett, Sore Looser e Wildcat Daddy’O. There's good music, good ambiance, cold drinks and lots of dance.

Oh boy, does time fly. Can you believe Às de Espadas opened one year ago already? Best part is the wonder duo behind the shop is hosting a party to celebrate with their friends and costumers. Not only are Cais do Sodré Cabaret! providing a DJ Set as the renowned Señorita Scarlet and Rebecca Pearl Curls will perform burlesque routines. If you're lucky enough, you may even snatch one of the 50% off vouchers they'll be giving away... no excuses not to drop by!

Daily Glamour: two weekend outfits & my afternoon at Feira na Fábrica

Summer holidays have been bittersweet, as per usual. I'm still looking for a job, the weather is overwhelmingly hot and this past week, staying in with my books and newly acquired 1950s fashion magazines was too tempting. Still, I wouldn't miss my afternoon tea/snack outing.

Friday was no exception; we had some ice cream with the best view in Lisbon's Avenida da Liberdade, in Cinema S. Jorge's balcony. Ignore my silly expressions, I'm obviously great at posing.

Isn't that quite the tan, for someone who hasn't set foot on sand or sea this summer?..

Soon after, I paid a little visit to the "garage" Fuga Dóleo to check out some new products too, and got the scoop on a nice event coming up soon! It's always nice to catch up with the rock n' roll crowd.

My sartorial picks have been less than creative, lately, and resses are obviously still my favourite closet staples, way over jeans or trousers - they may be practical, but they remind me of work wear too much. Nothing says "dolled up" like a pretty dress, even if you just threw it on 5m before you got out, and this little number is one of my favourites.

So Sunday we "sailed" back to Feira na Fábrica, to meet Inês and window shop a bit. I wore my #1 favourite dress, a cotton shirtwaist number. I need to get the patern off it, these styles were very popular back in the 1950s and the model's lenght is just right for me.

That's the one!

After seeing something about the first installment of this urban Sunday market, a friend invited me to go check out the first day, it was very nice to see some familiar faces such as Blow Up Vintage's owners with their own space. Sadly, my camera didn't quite agree with me publishing about that so today's post is about my second visit the following week.

I was overall impressed with how many shops and private sellers took part in this initiative, although it shouldn't have come as a surprise, considering the gap the late Crafts & Design market left. Surely I'd have preferred it to be all about vintage trinkets, but there was something for every crowd to be found - pastries and drinks, clothes, antiques, books, music, designers-makers' products of all sorts... Now, with these specifics, on a gorgeous sunny day, how come it wasn't full to brim? Besides being in LX Factory, a complex located in Alcântara you can only get to by tram or bus, the fact that it's a new event mustn't have helped. I'm guessing it'll grow on people over time, I'll keep my fingers crossed as I've been enjoying these. Find out more about Feira da Fábrica and their next dates on Facebook.

Daily Glamour: milkshakes and an exhibition opening + the week's acquisitions (Taschen 50s Fashion and more!)

Yes, it's that time of year again. The sun is shining, the birds are singing and the fact I'm now graduated has started to sink in. But unlike most Portuguese, I don't grab my towel and run to the nearest beach at the first rise of temperature. If not chucking water down my back or grasping for air (alright, I'm exaggerating, but it really is hot!), these days I can be found at the cinema or film museum screenings, in museums, etc. So yesterday afternoon, after running errands, I dolled up to go out for milkshakes at the 50s diner followed by a exhibition opening at BES Arte e Finança! The exhibition is brilliant, and the pop up art bookshop project is something to keep an eye out for aswell. May you not know the space, they have a GoNatural restaurant and an open lounge space where occasional concerts take place, besides the temporary exhibitions throughout the year.

And now for the week's loot!

Even more vintage postcards of 40s silver screen stars. This time I got Greer Garson with Signe Hasso plus Charles Boyer and Cary Grant; I thought all the ladies could use some male company. Still haven't found a solution for these, though - much as I'd like to use them for decor, I've 12 and counting!.. Something will come up, surely.

Taschen Icons 50s Fashion plus some vintage cosmetics and trinkets I found in the flea market; a hair comb, lipstick, powder case and tortoise comb with a detailed metalic cover. Not too shabby!

The book is quite nice, although purely pictorial. It's incredible how much you can learn about from era ads, they speak volumes about a society's values and insecurities.

Last call for La Belle Bombshell Pin Up Workshops 25 & 26th of June!

Did I mention everything's happening this weekend in Lisbon? Well, it is! La Belle Bombshell is hosting a final workshop before they go on holiday, so today is the last call to enrol. If any of you girls long to become pin ups or learn some steamy burlesque routines, what are you waiting for?

These lovely ladies from Cais do Sodré Cabaret! will be teaching the basic ins and outs of pin up history, styling, hair and make up on the 25th, with a 20% off voucher for vintage shop Ás de Espadas, afternoon cupcakes, 5 digital portraits, 1 A4 print and a workshop booklet so you don't forget anything!

The 26th class it'll be all about the art of burlesque - how it came about, some major vixens from its heyday, essential moves and even how to choose and make your own costumes.

Aaand photographer extraordinaire Alípio Padilha, with whom I've had the pleasure of working in the past, will be behind camera throughout the weekend, too... Need I say more?

Each of these workshop classes are €50, and you may take both for €80 - which is a bargain if you consider all you're getting for it. And even though I can't make this weekend, I'll be dying for the next burlesque workshop, come September.

Texabilly Rockets' Newly Released "45's Jamboree" Showcase this Saturday

A lot is happening in Lisbon over this weekend, so there's plenty to choose from. One of my must-go events is the Texabilly Rockets showcase at tattoo parlour and streetwear Shop Clockwork Lisboa. After presenting the new album 45's Jamboree live, a record hop will take place. So don't forget to drop by to jump and jive to these cats' wild rockin sounds - 16h to 19h at Rua do Crucifixo, no. 32 (Metro: Baixa-Chiado).

The band explain the concept behind this new work better than I could've in this promo video (Portuguese with English subtitles).

I have been following their work for a while, being one of my favourite portuguese bands, so this new record was great news. I'm extremely curious to have a listen, and you should too! Have a listen to Bop Potion No. 5 and Raw & Wild (on Youtube).

Hope to see a lot of you there - or that you'll enjoy their music as much as I do, case you can't make it.
