Useful reasonable tweaks to the Windows app will continue, especially to improve the flexibility of publishing.

It would be nice to make them both the same, but it’s simply not practical in terms of the work involved. There is also a lot of momemtum behind the Windows version and some users may be resistant to change.

By keep the concepts in the Windows version the same, but continually improving it in terms of publishing and new web technology, it means users are not forced to change to the platform independent version and it stays relevant.

You can view the latest HTML5 version here:-

Version 2.4.5 starts to extend publishing so that users have more control over how results are formatted.

To use it, tick the box labelled “Use Javascript” when publishing results and then include the Results.js script at the “Select Destination” stage. You will see from the source generated that Javascript is used to format headers etc., rather than vanilla HTML. Results.js is an example that starts to mimic the current alternative HTML – you can supply your own Javascript. There is still much to do. This extension is probably only suitable for users familiar with HTML and Javascript or some other coding language. Most clubs/events will have such a person and it’s a one time operation to design your layout. No documentation yet.

Changes

Force series event and venue to be specified before publishing. This information ends up in web pages and it’s essential for good searching thereafter.

Add checkboxes to publish to social media from FTP upload and Sailwave results folder upload.

Add a ‘Base URL’ to the FTP setup so that Sailwave knows what the final published URL is when uploading with FTP.

Add a webpage to the Sailwave website to do the social media publishing. This page can be developed independently of Sailwave itself. http://sailwave.com/social.php. It takes the arguments ‘url’ and ‘tit’. For example http://sailwave.com/social.php?url=http://sailwave.com/results/scrollerdemo.htm&tit=scroller%20demo. This means it can be used independently of Sailwave as well.

Minor appearance fixes.

Upcoming

Add facebook to social media publishing.

Add Google to social media publishing.

Give users more control over formatting of race headers and starts etc.

Multiple FTP sites in global options.

Please feel free to add your wishlist to this post in the comments.
