i’ve been listening to “the remix” ever since they were bonus tracks on CDs i bought at Future Shop. things started to change fast back in 2007, and they sure have changed since. streaming services didn’t even exist, and subscription music streaming services were a controversial idea in an era where many great companies were sued in to oblivion.

today my founding motivations are more relevant than ever. the streaming services are dominated by muzak which are cheap imitations of popular works and genres, which ghost artists make on spec to be included in the official streaming service playlists, commissioned BY the streaming services because they don’t have to pay the same royalties as “the real thing”. because they think Brian Eno is basically just random noise. this fred and zane guy probably have no idea what they’re talking about wrt drones.

this year some folks from Australia inspired me; many thanks to Baby J and Tye Turner and the other fine artists i have spent countless hours listening to with joy. you have given me opportunities in category #2 and #3, and also reminded me of something i haven’t felt in over a decade.
