A healthy diet filled with vitamins and nutrients feeds your hair and boosts shine naturally.  Exercise increases blood circulation to keep your cells healthy and happy, setting the stage for beautiful hair and skin.

There are many products on the market to help with build up and increase shine, however, your kitchen can be a great place to find tools to make hair shiny. Believe it or not, food items can be used to create your own shiny hair masks, providing gloriously glossy results.

Below Are Two Simple Recipes:

Honey and Oil:

2 tablespoons of honey

1/3 cup of olive oil (also good for dry skin)

Mix honey into oil using a whisk and small bowl.  Apply to dry hair, concentrating on the ends.  Wrap hair in hot towel for 30 minutes.  Rinse thoroughly, repeat as necessary as hair could be sticky if not rinsed out.

Eggs, Honey and Oil:

1 egg

1 teaspoon of honey

2 tablespoons of olive oil

Whisk egg into the honey then whisk olive oil into the mixture.  Shampoo hair, rinse and apply mixture to hair and scalp.  Massage for 5 minutes and then rinse.

• Choose a salon with a great reputation (by far the most important step).
• Start by asking family and friends who they use, a recommendation is always appreciated by a hair stylist.
• Once you find a salon and stylist, go for a consultation only first.  This will give you a chance to sit in the waiting area and check out the salon and your potential stylist at work. .
• Ask the stylist about their experience, their clients (average age, hair type etc). Important because if you have a trendy style you’ll need someone who keeps up with the latest trends.
• Talk to the stylist about your hair concerns, needs and ask for their advice.
• Make sure you feel completely comfortable communicating with your stylist.

Your stylist will truly play a large part in your life so when you find the right one, stick with her/him.

Fairfax and Clifton, VA – On the heels of a successful Thanksgiving food drive in conjunction with the Knights of Columbus and St. Andrew the Apostle of Clifton, Salon Antoine and Spa of Fairfax decided to continue and extend their charitable ways to the Christmas-New Year Holidays and the results “exceeded my wildest expectations,” said salon owner, Antoine ‘Tony’ Chahine.

“Between our Salon and the food gathering bins outside my home where our festive evening light shows draw such an appreciative crowd every night, we were able to gather 40 boxes of food expressly for the benefit of Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Arlington.  That represents 1,635 pounds of can and non-perishable foodstuffs and hair products — more than 1,840 items in all — all for the 63 food pantries across the 21 Northern Virginia counties served by Catholic Charities. I am so happy with the results!”

Chahine continued, “We are a stand-alone salon and spa. We are not a multi-point hamburger or pizza or coffee/donut chain where these sorts of helping-hand challenges are better met. Nonetheless, as our past foods drives have proven, the patrons of Salon Antoine are some of the nicest, kindest, caring

Add to that the scores of area families that drop off food donations at my home while taking-in our holiday light and sound show* and it reinforces how lucky I am to be living and working among some of the most compassionate people anywhere.  We’re blessed and Catholic Charities is blessed by the generosity of so many and on behalf of my family and everyone at Salon Antoine, I want to express my appreciation to all who helped make this possible.
