]]> http://deliaandsam.com/engagement-pictures/feed 0 http://deliaandsam.com/engagement-pictures Decisions, decisions… http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/samanddelia/~3/ZeM4infASw8/decisions-decisions http://deliaandsam.com/decisions-decisions#comments Tue, 15 Mar 2011 03:33:58 +0000 Delia http://deliaandsam.com/?p=576 The last few months have been very busy!  Along with work and school, we have been making decisions about flowers, cake, outfits, centerpieces, food, invitations, guest list, and all of the endless details that must be accounted for.  We are in the process of becoming wedding experts as we research all the options and attempt to find what works best for us.  The most important lesson we have learned through all of this is that it is really important to think outside of the wedding box and find creative and unique ways to make our day special.

Here are some recent decisions that we are excited about…

  • We have decided on getting cupcakes from Just Desserts in Hawthorne, NJ. This bakery has amazingly delicious and beautiful cupcakes! We are very excited for our tasting on Saturday.
  • We found an apartment! After tirelessly visiting apartment after apartment, we signed a lease with Camp Hill Plaza in Camp Hill, PA.  Sam will move in June 11th!  We are very excited to have found our home and we look forward to decorating!

Things that we are still working on…

  • Flowers- we are thinking about getting plants from a nursery and replanting them for centerpieces and other decorative pieces.  Still not sure what to do about bouquets, boutonniers,  and corsages, but we are thinking about buying the flowers locally and arranging them ourselves.
  • Food- our food tasting is Saturday and we will be finalizing our menu.
  • Invitations- Sam will be finalizing the design this weekend so they should be out soon!
  • Everything else- still many more details to cover, but we have lots of fun and creative DIY ideas!

What we need YOUR help with…

  • Ideas- we would love to hear your ideas!  It means a lot that all of you are supporting us and our marriage and we would love to incorporate your ideas on our special day!

So we left on August 20 at 10:30 PM and drove through the night to arrive in WI 17 hours later. On the way we got to see Chicago in the morning sun and spend lots of time together on the road! First stop was Grandma Dutzle’s Apt in Waupaca, WI. We loaded up the car with boxes of stuff (including dishes, books and anything else Gma thought we might want) and finished loading up the moving truck before heading off to Dean and Lesley’s (Sam’s Uncle and Aunt) new house in Elk Mound, WI. There we spent Sat and Sun. We hung out with all Sam’s little cousins and even went out on Lake Wissota in Uncle Dean’s boat. We had a great time just hanging out with relatives that we don’t get to see much. Before leaving, Delia fell in love with an antique cabinet that has been painted and is all chipped up. So we worked a miracle and got it to fit in the back seat of the car.

Early Monday we took the 3 hour drive down to Fox Lake, WI to visit with Grandma and Grandpa Bednarek (Sam’s Grandparents). We went to dinner at Ponderosa, bought some WI cheese, and saw a retention pond that the city of Fox Lake is finishing. After all, Sam’s grandfather IS the Mayor of Fox Lake. We talked & caught up, tried to make some decision on colors (long story) and just spend time together.

The next morning we said our goodbyes once again and drove down to Warsaw, IN. The drive was about 6 hours and finished with us pulling in the driveway of Aunt Donna and Uncle Joe’s (Delia’s Aunt and Uncle) at about 7PM (we thought it was 6PM, but at some point we must have crossed time zone… go figure). We had a great dinner and engagement cake. Wednesday morning we went with Uncle Joe to get a tour of Grace College where he is a professor and visited the Village at Winona. We had lunch at Steak and Shake (Delia’s first time!) and headed back to the Lehmans. Aunt Donna gave Delia a bunch of teaching supplies and books and Sam stuffed them into the car with everything else we had picked up on our journey.

At about 7PM we left and began our trek back east. Once again driving through the night arriving home just after the sun rose. We had a great trip. Thanks to everyone that we were able to see and made us feel welcome. Miss you all and can’t wait to see you again soon.

We have some very exciting news to share with all of you…we picked a date and a place for our wedding! After much research and prayer, we have decided to have our ceremony and reception at the Indian Trail Club in Franklin Lakes, NJ on Saturday, July 16, 2011. Finding the perfect place that is within our budget has been quite the challenge, but we feel very blessed that this has worked out. The Indian Trail Club is a beautiful country club set on Franklin Lake and their wedding coordinator has been a pleasure to work with.

Sam was working at Christian Life Assembly and Delia had just started her freshman year at Messiah College. Being new in the area Delia and her friends were looking for a church to get involved with and after a meeting with Pastor Jeff from CLA Delia and her friends decided to embark on a fall retreat 2 days later with the Youth Group. Meanwhile, Sam had recently begun helping with the Youth Group and on the day of the retreat was persuaded by a some of the kids to tag along. On Friday, November 2, 2007, Sam and Delia loaded into buses with about 60 youth ready to begin a great weekend. Sam and Delia spent the weekend helping plan events and watching the kids. The first time they spoke was when Sam came up to Delia and asked if she wanted Starbucks. Delia could never turn down Starbucks and gladly excepted the offer. Later that night they spent some time getting to know each other at the bonfire. The weekend ended as quickly as it began and Sam drove Delia and her friends back to Messiah. Sam gave an open invitation to Delia and her friends to come over and he would make them dinner. But Delia’s friends claimed to be too busy leaving Delia to except the invitation by herself. The following Friday Sam picked Delia up and made her dinner… and that is how they met.

Knowing this, Sam decided he would trek for the extended weekend and spend some time with her and the family. After a long weekend filled with fireworks, family BBQ’s, a parade, and lots of hot weather, Tuesday evening rolled around and Sam and Delia went out for Pizza. Sam brought his camera along and after pizza they went out to the park in Ridgewood to take some pictures. Since you can only take so many different posses they decided to walk down to Starbucks and get some drinks. Sitting outside enjoying the nice HOT weather they talked about how great the weekend had been and how sad they were that Sam was going home soon. Walking back toward the park, Delia asked if they could go to the train tracks and take some pictures. Sam said “Sure, but lets stop in the park for a couple more pictures there.”  Though the sun was setting, Delia decided a few more pictures in the park wouldn’t hurt. Setting up the tripod once again, Sam began to ask Delia when she thought he should propose. “Tomorrow!” she exclaimed. Sam gave her a look and asked what would happen if he waited till the end of the month. To this Delia showed her dismay and pouted at the camera as Sam snapped another shot. “But that is so far away and it will leave me no time to plan.” Delia continued to pout. “Well,” Sam said “what if I proposed right now?” Delia laughed and mocked him. As Sam got down on his knee Delia began to panic. Speechless she began to show her disbelief. Her eyes welled up with tears as Sam asked, “Delia… will you marry me?” Fumbling for the ring in his pocket Delia still doubted that this moment she had waited for was finally here. Placing the ring on her finger she stumbled over her words still trying to put together what was happening. After a moment to remove all doubt she confirmed to Sam, “Yes of course I’ll marry you.” They sat on the bench for a while longer talking and letting the moment set in. Delia was so surprised her face gleamed with excitement… and that is how he asked. :)
