- Jag vill bidra till att ungdomarna här i Alby får möjlighet att göra något vettigt och utvecklande under sommaren. På lång sikt hoppas vi också kunna uppmuntra de modeintresserade ungdomarna att söka in på designutbildningar och bidra till att skapa ett framtida hållbart modeföretagande i Sverige, säger Halema Dahie.

Halema och innovationslabbets övriga deltagare erbjuds ett kreativt sammanhang med fokus på att vi tillsammans kan bidra till att lösa samhällsproblem i våra lokalsamhällen. Under helgen skapar de handlingsplaner och får förutom ett nätverk av likasinnade också en verktygslåda full av konkreta metoder för att kunna arbeta vidare med sina idéer och på sikt göra dem till ekonomiskt hållbara verksamheter.

- Vi drivs av övertygelsen att alla människor bär på unika idéer som kan förverkligas med hjälp av ihärdigt arbete och rätt typ av stöd. One of the most inspirational speakers at the Public Sector Show was Peter Holbrook, the founder of Social Enterprise UK. Mr Holbrook argues that inequality is the greatest risk we all face. In his speech ‘making the way for the delivery of services by local enterprises’ he claims that there is a societal revolution taking place, with an increasing recognition of the long-term social value rather than short-term financial profits. Through social finance, innovation and enterprise we are finding new ways to deliver public services and co-create and co-produce to overcome the challenges we face.  The energy with which Mr Holbrook delivered his speech made me feel very enthusiastic about the opportunity that lies ahead of us.

The UK has a very ambitious goal to reform its public services to make them the best, most effective and cost-effective public services in the world. How will this be achieved? A whole range of support mechanisms are required ranging from new innovations and technologies, laws and regulations to changes in human behaviour. To point out a few examples, the UK government has been very active in establishing an eco-system for social finance to support the need for innovation of public services, such as social impact bonds and big society capital. Also, the Public Services (Social Value) Act introduces new requirements for government when deciding where to award contracts for public services. The Act gives an opportunity to do things differently and is meant to be an enabling piece of legislation. It gives the public sector the mandate to factor in the social and environmental value in the procurement of services.

Birmingham City Council has taken this Act a step further by including this in all procurement decisions. Liverpool has, like many other city councils set up a fairness commission. The commission decided that a spine indicator will be used to assess the income disparity between staff as a means to tackle inequality in their community. Companies with larger income disparities between staff will be at disadvantage in a tendering process. Another example is the Borough of Camden where only suppliers who have adopted the London living wage will be contracted. Such examples are plentiful and they illustrate the important leadership role that national government and local authorities have in the co-creation and co-production of more equal societies.

I think most people can agree that inequality is bad for everyone, rich and poor. I am therefore pleased to see that there is an increasing recognition that sustainable solutions to provision of equal public sector services is now to be found not in the public sector alone, but through co-creation with social entrepreneurs, the private sector, NGOs and charities who all work together to make things work in the way people want. Many local authorities and organisations in the UK and the Nordic countries have exciting and proven innovations for equal societies. The British Council aims to facilitate the exchange of experience and inspiration between people in the Nordics and the UK, and beyond, who design and deliver public services for more inclusive and equal societies. We will work with partner organisations to inject thought leadership into this debate. We will provide inspiration for public service innovation and work on the skills needed to achieve fairer societies.  The British Council wants to ensure that the right kind of opportunities exist for everyone, provided through public services that result in strong confident societies where everyone feels they belong and can get on.

Vilka förutsättningar har man idag som entreprenör och samhällsentreprenör? Förstår aktörssystemet som ska stötta entreprenörer vad egentligen en samhällsentreprenör är? Det sker ett stort paradigmskifte sedan en tid tillbaka.

När jag föreläser brukar jag fråga hur många som känner till förkortningar som CSR eller begrepp som social innovation. Då räcker enstaka personer upp händerna. Det visar sig ofta att väl upplysta personer ännu inte har tagit till sig begrepp som vi i aktörssystemet använder dagligen. Behovet att på ett förenklat sätt förklara begrepp är stort. Det är ett ansvar som vi alla bär som jobbar i aktörssystemet.

På Tillväxt Malmö definierar vi en samhällsentreprenör enkelt. Samhällsentreprenören ska lösa ett samhällsproblem i affärsplanen. Vi har även lagt ett lager till i den definitionen: samhällsentreprenören ska även ha möjligheten och viljan att anställa. Vi skiljer inte på hur vi arbetar med samhällsentreprenörer och andra entreprenörer. Viljan att bygga företag som kan anställa måste finnas. Det är det vi söker.

Om vi läser vad statistiken säger så är det en utmaning som vi i Sverige står inför: oviljan att anställa. Vilka faktorer som spelar in till det kan vi inte sia om men enligt en marknadsundersökning som Tillväxt Malmö genomförde under 2012 så var just kompetensbehovet utbrett och identifierades som ett reellt problem.

Vi har till dags dato signerat avtal med 12 samhällsentreprenörer samt för dialog med ett tiotal. Samtliga identifierade som verksamheter med tillväxtkapacitet och potential att bli ett tillväxtbolag. De samhällsentreprenörer vi jobbar med är från vitt skilda branscher.

Moriskan – bedriver verksamhet i Folket Park med en restaurang, kulturyttringar för en bred massa samt en förening som står för musikarrangemang. Målgruppen är blandad med en ung klubbpublik, minoriteter, kulturintresserade och företag som vill lägga konferenser i en miljö som andas mångfald och engagemang.

Moriskas samhällsengagemang rör inte endast arrangemangen med budskap om en bättre värld – det finns även en plats där minoriteters artister har en scen där de kan synas och verka i ett sammanhang. Ett sammanhang där alla i samhället är välkomna.

I samband med upprepad skadegörelse tog Moriskans VD Ozan Sunar kontakt med en grupp ungdomar som uppehöll sig i Folkets Park där Moriskan är beläget och frågade: Vad ska jag göra för att Ni ska sluta sabotera? Det visade sig att de ville ha ett jobb. Det är så arrangemangsskolan tog sin början. Idag är det unga som arrangerar när det är skollov. Detta initiativ kommer att fortsätta.

Nerdy By Nerds – har en nördig passion för den perfekta passformen av jeans. Deras idé är att skapa den perfekta jeansmodellen som ska sys upp i Malmö. Gärna kvinnor som står långt ifrån arbetsmarknaden. Inom en snar framtid kommer de att öppna en butik-fabrik där du som kund kan se dina ekologiska jeans sys upp samtidigt som du tar en kopp kaffe. Det ekologiska jeanstyget hämtas från Turkiet.

Ung ART – Träning för förändring erbjuder boende, öppenvård och en fristående grundskola för ungdomar med komplexa behov och svårigheter. De har funnits sedan 1997 och jobbar behovsanpassat utifrån BBIC med Aggression Replacement Training, ART – en form av terapi. Det är i praktiken social färdighetsträning, ilskekontrollträning, problemlösning och kognitiv självförändring. De har även ett samarbete med Vasa Universitetet i Finland. Mottot för verksamheten är ”lev som du lär”, drivkraften är tron på att alla kan och vill utvecklas i positiv riktning.”

Ett syfte med kursen är att du får vara med om att testa och utveckla nya pedagogiska former som understödjer det förändringsarbete, som du kanske befinner dig i, i din egen organisation eller företag.

Kursen ges på Fakulteten för hälsa och samhälle och är en del av ett utvecklingsprojekt mellan bl.a. Malmö högskola, Tillväxtverket och Region Skåne.

The natural science has proclaimed that a new geological era has begun, it’s the Antrophocene that now is present and we have left the stable Holocene where conditions in the world lead to the creation of mankind and the society as we know it. The new path is dangerous and if we are not careful we will pass tipping points where we no longer know what’s going to happen – we as humans shape the world of tomorrow with the choices we make and the actions we take.

Everything begins with the social system. If people can´t meet their own needs they will not take responsibility for the environment. Humans will not care for the generations to come if their own existence is threatened. To change this we all have a responsibility, politicians, businesses, civil society and each and every individual. And in that world, business must take much more responsibility and take part and develop its business models – it’s the era of responsibility that will be the winner.

The Social aspect of business – trust is a key

Outlined below are thoughts and recommendations on how companies and organizations can better utilize existing human resources, and by doing so creating new, more sustainable and profitable business practices. This is about how we can create a new way of business that uses human capital more efficiently and for the betterment of society as a whole by focusing on the ability within people of different gender, ethnics, religion and disability.

It all goes back to our basic wants and needs as human beings. A person who holds employment and is able to support himself and his family, will begin to see that there are options and opportunities towards his or her self-actualization, he or she can start to make choices. It is critical that every human being is given the opportunity to work as much as they are able with an employment that matches their unique sets of skills and competencies – making the matching critical as well as having a work life where each individual is used to his or her full potential.

On this path forward, companies, politicians and civil society will play an important role. There are growing expectations from all parts of society that companies can and should take a greater responsibility in social and environmental issues. Rather than being seen as a “burden” by the business community, it should actually be seen as a business opportunity. Michael Porter (Harvard) published his ideas about CSV – Creating Shared Value – in an article in 2006 and a second article 2011, this could be the key to a new market economy, where taking a responsibility in society increases profits and becomes good business. To create a business environment where the concept of CSV would work at its best, governments need to implement the right regulations and different stakeholders should work together to create clusters of supporting infrastructure and services.

Within our company, the initiatives we started more than 10 years ago was the result of seeing a problem in society and turning it into a business opportunity. It originated as a problem in our business; we had difficulties recruiting the right people to fill the positions as restaurant hosts. In collaboration with the government and civil society, we created a program that systematically hired persons with primarily neuropsychiatric disorder to fill these positions. This has been a win-win outcome. We as a company have been able to attract and retain the best people for the job. The individuals have increased their self-esteem and improved their lives in many ways. It has also been profitable for society, as more people are integrated into the workforce and less taxpayer funds are required to support them.

Another major benefit is that our model is not just fitted to individuals with disabilities; it is perfect to use to create interactions and relations between people from different cultures, religions and traditions, yes between every individual. Through these interactions new ways of doing business are created, understanding about cultures will increase and many new innovations will be developed.  When people meet with each other in the workplace it creates a powerful opportunity to collaborate and work together in a new way. The key is overcoming fear for the unknown that turns into prejudice. If the prejudice is no longer there, the fear will also be gone and new business will be created. In our business the fear and prejudice was primarily among our line managers but the whole management needed to make a mind shift. We therefore continually educate our leaders about themselves and about individuals with disabilities and people from other cultures.  We would gladly share our knowledge and experience with anyone who is interested with a model that has emphasized trust to employee’s abilities and that has led to increased trust from consumers that has lead to increased profit.

A more inclusive work life for people with disabilities as well as other socially excluded groups will be the challenge but also an opportunity in the years to come.  It is the opportunity to create new growth through innovations.

1. A value driven perspective on inclusion

The single most important factor in the inclusion of people with disabilities at the workplace is employer attitude. Employers that are able to identify people’s strengths rather than their weaknesses in the workplace tend to find positions where people with disabilities can perform at par with, and in many cases outperform those with no disabilities. Given this, financial reimbursement for hiring people with disabilities may be an important incentive, but is still second to attitude.

This is even more important when trying to convert subsidized employments into regular positions. In this case, companies’ internal efforts to create shared value as well as training of management and co-workers on managing and working with disabled are essential to succeeding.

This approach has another important aspect; embracing the private sector perspective on employment at large. Private enterprises are supposed to be profitable and investments, even in the social sector must, to some degree, be defendable from an investor perspective. A value-driven perspective on inclusion does this, by integrating the issue of social inclusion into overall profitability (which could, of course, include such things as goodwill from CSV efforts). A number of Swedish examples, such as ICA, Swedbank and MAX prove that profitability is not only compatible with, but benefits from an inclusive approach.

We would thus propose that emphasizing a value-driven perspective on inclusion of people with disabilities is embraced as a general goal of the coming program.

2.  A “jobs first” approach

In contrast to more traditional approaches to workplace inclusion, a “jobs first” approach has been successfully deployed in the US and Canada. Several European countries have tested it as well. The general idea is to consider disabled people as able and motivated to assume a regular position and that any specific measures, such as education or vocal training should come second to being introduced on the labour market. This is something that companies can do and offer to the society to contribute with – companies need to be direct and open with the problems to society, institutions.

3. Emphasize state responsibility for social problems connected to exclusion

Far too often, a number of social problems arise in connection with exclusion as a result of disabilities, especially in the case of psychological disabilities. Examples include alcohol or drug abuse and antisocial behavior. Even though companies in many countries take responsibility for addressing these issues as part of the general work environment, demanding that companies should also be able to handle them as part of a program to employ people with disabilities would stretch that responsibility too far and in many cases stop companies from participating.

The world of tomorrow need companies that takes responsibility – the companies of tomorrow need to take responsibility to earn the trust from its consumers. And if consumers understand what is happening in the world – the will start to change the way they consume.

Boodla, som under hösten antagits till Reach for Change, skapar trädgårdar tillsammans med barn och unga. Syftet är att främja barnens möjligheter att medskapa sin omgivning och lära känna varandra samtidigt som de odlar egna grönsaker. Följ Boodla även på facebook.

Provins (tidigare Food for Thought) använder mat som en resurs för att motverka socialt och ekonomiskt utanförskap. Deras medarbetare och kockar är utrikesfödda kvinnor med många års erfarenhet av matlagning i hemmet, vars kunskaper är en ovärderlig resurs och väg ut i arbete. Provins har just nu en FundedByMe kampanj där alla bidrag går till att öka kökets kapacitet med ny utrustning samt möbler till den kommande serveringen. Hemsidan är under utveckling men följ Provins gärna redan nu via facebook för uppdateringar.

Varje år ger Subtopia ut ett magasin fyllt av allt som händer i sitt kreativa kluster. Temat i Magasin Subtopia #6 som har release samma kväll som invigningen av Gula Villan Subtopia är urbanism och ni kan läsa artiklar om urban odling, gatans konst, gamla industrilokaler som blir kulturhus, den unga cirkusgenerationen och om sicksacksöm som blir musik.
