It was around year 2009 that I started using plurk again. I got registered around 2008 but didn’t really use it much. 2009 was the year I joined CDOBloggers.com and I also found new friends from CDO, Gensan, and Davao thru Plurk. In my timeline I came across ter Orman’s blog GandaEverSoMuch. First time I saw it I was like, wow, cool theme, the hands follow thru while scrolling down. Hehehe.

It was just after the MBS3 that I really got to follow and read thru the blog posts written in it as I really find them interesting and fun to read. The way of writing are mostly in a very natural and taray way which I really love. It’s not some of those too detailed and too boring way of writing articles, again I would have to say, it’s fun to read! I think the first blog post I read was about Kuya Avel’s journey to the top in blogging. I think It had a song pa. Or maybe it was Orman’s blog post about his moment with yummy Atty. Adel at MBS3?  Either way, I read thru both of those articles some time ago.

I keep coming back to GandaEverSoMuch.com because I see things ang real. Mostly Orman’s personal happenings, may it be sad or happy. Some blogs relate to General Santos where Orman lives. I also get to know Orman’s life even sa malayo. There are things I can relate to, sometimes realizations, I remember I read thru one of Orman’s post about loving the job, and how to and not impress the boss. Overworking and stressing yourself isn’t really the answer. If you guys are interested to know more, may steps sya dun. I think it was a blog late December 2009 or January 2010.

Below is the story of my longtime online buddy Ryan C. Rivero a.k.a DanDansoy who had an encounter with the owner of Philippine Women’s University – Cagayan de Oro.

Here are some words I quoted from PWU’s site, which I think is not even close to the encounter story below:

Story starts here:

Culinary Institute of Cagayan De Oro is handled by the Philippine Women’s University of Cagayan de Oro. It is franchised owned by Karlo Marcaida.

I’m writing these chronological events that transpired the confrontation on April 12, 2010 between the owner of Philippine Women University (PWU) and me.

An invitation on “Facebook” about a demo for a culinary event few months ago at PWU made me interested to apply as a chef instructor for the said school. Mrs. Alice Colegado and Fred Limbaga took interest in me due to my credentials. I am one of many product of the best culinary school in the world. They have been calling me for my certificates and some important matters for the past months. One of it is if I can give a demo on April 11, 2010. I settled for the 12th of April, due to our vacation to Palawan. Emailed them the ingredients for the 4 recipes that I would be cooking in the demo.

Fast forward, on April 12, 2010 me and my son came to PWU around 9 a.m. Ms. Eden Baldelovar met me at the school and introduced me to Mrs. Alice Colegado which is the director of academic affairs. We chatted for a while and made a remark about my outfit. I was wearing shorts and shirt at that time. I apologized to her about my outfit when I learned that they wanted to shoot a video of the said demo. If I was informed of such thing I could have been properly dressed professionally as a chef.

Moving on, we went upstairs to check on the kitchen and get ready for the demo. To my surprised the kitchen was not ready at all. No pots or any pans, the burners weren’t connected to any gas line, no plates, no ladles, no pot holders, no chopping boards, nothing at all except for 1 non stick fry pan. So I asked them if they could bring everything including the ingredients that I asked them.

Then the president of the school which I forgot her name and the owner who’s first name I remembered only, Karlo. We were introduce and shook hands with Karlo and I introduce them to my son who was sitting at the back of the kitchen room. By this time most of the ingredients needed for cooking was brought in the kitchen room. One of the administrators helped me in prepping the recipes we’re going to make. Then I found out that most of the ingredients that I emailed for them to prepare was crashed out and therefore been omitted and haven’t been bought. And these were the important ingredients for the entire cooking. Mrs. Colegado asked personnel of the school to buy the stuff. This thing eventually stalled our time in prepping up the recipes.

Around lunch time my son was complaining about his stomach. He said it was aching so painfully that he can’t take it no more. My son was sick during our vacation in Palawan. I brought him with me so I can bring him to the doctor after the demo. I saw my son in excruciating pain and was in tears. So I asked Miss Alice that I would bring my son to the hospital. And so we did, my son got a CBC test at Madonna and given medicine that made him feel better.

We came back around 2 pm that day. I was so hyped to finish the food preparation so we can do the cooking. And so we did, there was another staff that helped me prepping the recipes. I asked again where the pots and pans were, the only thing they provided me were 2 pieces of Asian frying pan (wok) and a stock pan. All this time I didn’t complain about the lack of preparedness of the staff for this demo. I continued to prepare the things needed without complains.

Then Mr. Fred Limbaga came and asked me if I can do a demo for the owner and the staff of the school. I told him I will but I have to finished prepping everything first before I can make a demo like cooking. A few minutes later Fred Limbaga, Karlo (the owner of the school) came and sat down. Followed by Miss Alice Colegado and some staff. My son was asking me something, he asked what I am going to cook for the people inside the room. To my surprised Karlo raised his voice and addresses my son to keep quite or leave the room. My son candidly replied to him “I was just asking my dad what he will be cooking.” Then Karlo told my son, a 9 yr old kid to “shut up or go out and stay outside”. Everyone in the room was stunned, I myself was dumbfounded surprised of his action.

He (Karlo) then asked me if I can do the demo. I told him I can but I have to finished my preparation and if they can be patient for a short while. He then asked me what happened, why it took this long. I replied and pointed out to him that the kitchen wasn’t equipped and plenty of things needed are not in the kitchen. He simply raised his voice again to me and asked me if I was demanding for those things. I told him I wasn’t demanding, I was just stating why our worked took so long because of some equipments not in the kitchen. I pointed out to him that “how can I make a demo when I needed 3 pans to cook a recipe all at once?” he stood up and came to me and talked on my face saying “don’t act like a boss!!! In the first place I didn’t like your attire making a demo”. I then interrupted him saying “I already apologized earlier to Miss Colegado about my attire and I have never been bossy in this kitchen or the people who have been working and helping me preparing the things. Ask your staff if I have been bossy to them, asked the guys who are fixing your oven now if I was complaining that your stove was not been set up! And if you didn’t like my attire earlier you could have called off the demo since most of the ingredients wasn’t bought yet”

Then I asked him “did you expect me to connect the gas line of the stove?” and he replied “yes” he yelled at me saying “you are supposed to do this stuff because you’re the chef, connect the gas line if needed so, I know what you do in the US so don’t be bossy!”

I just laughed at him and told him to go to hell. I don’t need this if I will be working with an A**hole like him.

I gathered my kitchen knives and tools and cleaned them. It took a while to wash them, I heard Karlo instructing his staff to eat the things I cooked. Hahaha what a nerved huh! The kitchen was so quite when he left, except for me talking to my son and telling him what had happened. Fred Limbaga, Mrs. Colegado and some staff was still in the room, speechless and I don’t know what they were thinking. I, my son and my friend left after I managed to settle my things.

Now it’s been almost a month since it happened and its been bothering me for quite a time now. I have never been insulted in my life. And I haven’t seen anybody of such educated man to be cruel and disrespectful to a 9 year old kid. To make matter worst the staff of the said university hasn’t called or wrote me for any apology. I surely know that I did nothing to offend anybody in that room that day. I believe this people owes me an apology that’s why I’m seeking your help with regards to the action of the school owner did to me and what the staff should have done after the incident. I did asked help for a local radio station here in CDO, but I haven’t heard from them as well.

So if anyone knows how to help me reprimand this school and its staff please advice me to do so. I don’t know if writing this thing would liberate me from sleepless night or may cause trouble. But then again this is my HOME TOWN CAGAYAN DE ORO, no out of “towner” bullies a KAGAY-ANON!!!

It would have been so nice to for Kagayanons to experience culinary studies at world’s standard!!
Is it worth it to enroll in the said culinary school with its incompetent staff?

I later found out through my cousin who franchises PWU School as well that Karlo’s last name is Marcaida who is from Luzon.
