Happy Easter to All. Wine Centre News - Liquor Licence restrictions require that the Wine Centre at West Melton must be closed on Friday 29th March and Sunday 31st March. Because of this we have also decided to remain closed on Saturday 30th. Regular Wine Centre Hours resume on Wednesday 3rd April, 12pm to 5pm.

Sean will take care of all on-line sales and trade services. And The Red Wine Dog will continue to practise his entertainment routine in order to amuse you again when we re-open...!

Wishing all our customers a very Happy Easter! Liquor Licence restrictions require that the Sandihurst Cellar Door must be closed on Friday 6th April and Sunday 8th. Because of this we have also decided to remain closed on Saturday 7th and Monday 9th. Vintage work however continues throughout the weekend! Cellar Door will back to normal on Tuesday 10th April.

Riesling Tasting – Saturday 28th April

We are mad about Riesling - not mad in the cross sense but mad in the excited sense! NZ is producing some of the world's great Rieslings. It is a varietal that is incredibly versatile with food and can surprise us with styles from super dry to super sweet and everything in between. A 100 years ago Riesling was the highest priced wine of all wines in the world and highly sought after, above many famous Bordeaux and Burgundy wines! If you missed the recent NZ Summer of Riesling events, you can still catch our next tasting which will be exclusively Riesling. We will be combining the tasting with another local West Melton Producer, Melton Estate. On offer is an afternoon with four fabulous Rieslings (two from each producer) accompanied by some treats from the Melton Estate kitchen. Tickets are $15 per person and numbers are limited. Then wine is its perfect partner, but choose well... A new study reveals wine drinkers should also consider what's playing on their stereo if they want the perfect tipple. The study shows that people who drink wine while listening to music perceive the wine to have the same taste characteristics of the particular artist. The research published in the British Journal of Psychology found that for the best earthy and full-bodied Merlot taste experience, drinkers should try listening to Tom Jones. Or to add a little zing to a glass of Pinot Gris pull out the latest Lady Gaga album. 250 students - half male, half female took part in the study. They were given either Cabernet Sauvignon or Chardonnay and played one of four songs on loop for 15 minutes picked for their contrasting musical characteristics. After five minutes the volunteers were asked to rank how much they felt the wine tasted like the musical descriptions: powerful and heavy, subtle and refined, mellow and soft, zingy and refreshing. The results showed the music the volunteers listened to consistently affected how they perceived it to taste..
