Our goal is to promote and provide moral support, assistance and empowerment by promoting communication, exchange of information and resources to help one another and individual military members and veterans.

Annually each October we host a Semper Fi Sisters Beach Blast in Gulf Country, FL for our female members. We offer seminars that are educational in nature and support materials. Registration & donations are made by attendees and we receive public donations for shipping the “boxes of love from the home front” care/comfort packages plus purchasing items not received as a contribution to this program. In 2009 our first year, we shipped 36 boxes, in 2010 we packed over 300 boxes & 2011 over 700 and expect to exceed over 1000 boxes this year (Oct 17-21, 2012).

Blackburn was a true hero of the Army Special Forces. Shadow Commander is his story. Amidst the chaos of the American defeat on Bataan in April 1942, Army Captain Donald D. Blackburn escaped to the jungles of North Luzon, raising a remarkably effective guerrilla regiment known as “Blackburn’s Headhunters.” Blackburn’s World War II exploits were but the first in a storied life that took him to the highest echelons of the U.S. military. Shadow Commander follows Blackburn from World War II to his days as a one of the pivotal figures in the development of America’s Special Forces.

Following World War II, Blackburn played a key role in initiating Special Forces operations in Southeast Asia, taking command of the highly classified Studies and Observations Group (SOG), which targeted Communist incursions along the Ho Chi Minh Trail. In the wake of the CIA’s disastrous Leaping Lena reconnaissance program, Blackburn revitalized Special Operations in Vietnam, and later conducted full-scale operations against the NVA and Viet Cong infiltrating the south via Laos. Following his return to the U.S., Blackburn was appointed “Special Assistant for Counterinsurgency and Special Activities,” where he was the architect of the Son Tay Prison Raid, the largest Special Forces operation of the Vietnam War.

Mike Guardia is an Armor Officer in the United States Army. He holds a BA and MA in American History from the University of Houston. As an author, his interests include the history of guerrilla warfare, armored warfare, and World War II in the Pacific. He is the author of the critically-acclaimed book American Guerrilla: The Forgotten Heroics of Russell W. Volckmann by Casemate Publishers, and the forthcoming US Army and Marine Corps MRAPs, scheduled for release this November from Osprey Publishing. He is currently stationed at Fort Bliss, Texas.

Her award-winning book, “Front Toward Enemy” chronicles the personal and factual accounts of her husband’s murder at the hands of a fellow soldier, and the subsequent acquittal of his killer. How can American soldiers be at risk among their fellow soldiers? How could these murders have been prevented, and how could this government allow a killer to go free?
Front Toward Enemy is the personal and factual account behind the scenes of a case that is to the military judicial system what the O.J. Simpson case is to the civilian judicial system.

Barbara is currently at work on her second book, expected to be published in 2014. In addition to her work as an author and a freelance writer, Barbara is co-founder of Bold Biographies, a business dedicated to writing personal biographies for her clients to pass down in their families.

Barbara received a Masters degree in Criminal Justice from American Military University, and actively reaches out to other families grappling with the military judicial system. She continues to pursue the Purple Heart for her husband, as the government has thus far refused to classify Lou’s death as “Hostile.” She resides in NY with her four boys.

Nearly everyone has been hurt by something someone said, did or didn’t do. When my husband left me with two small children while my mother was dying of breast cancer the words forgiveness did not enter my vocabulary. I was so busy managing the day to day chaos of sickness, a premature baby and an ornery toddler that I didn’t have time for anger, resentment and thoughts of revenge. I can tell you that during that two year span of time where I also went through a foreclosure, and a deed in lieu of foreclosure. I had to sell my car and my dog died. I heard from everyone that I needed to do two things: work on myself and forgive.

The working on myself sounded pretty good, but the forgiveness part burned in m heart like a fever. See after growing up in church, it became clear to me I never really understood what forgiveness meant. All I knew then was it was something I needed to do. My friend who was a doctor told me if I learned how to forgive I would be healthier, have better relationships, and have less anxiety, depression and hostility. Gee, ya think?

I read all these books and went to seminars that taught me that forgiveness doesn’t mean that I have to deny what happened to me or relieve the other person of responsibility of what they have done. It doesn’t minimize or justify the wrong. It just means I have to let go of resentment and thoughts of revenge. Sounds good.

The one thing I couldn’t figure out was how? How do you forgive when the wrong keeps paying you back day after day and year after year– especially when the affair is in your face in a daily basis and so is the financial devastation in your monthly bank statement?

I tried burning things. Pictures of him. Pictures of her. A voodoo doll I made. I wrote in a journal mean, hateful, passionate things until my fingers fell off and the marks look like they had been carved there by Satan. I wrote a manifesto and shredded it releasing it into the wind. I chanted. I meditated. I saged and I burned about 50 white candles to clear out my rage.

Then while sitting in the bathtub at midnight on a Saturday night while my kids slept, I looked out the window and whispered enough. I was ready to actively choose to forgive the man I married for not seeing the gigantic mistake he made in cheating on me. I was no longer going to define myself by how I had been hurt. I wasn’t going to teach my children that their mom was so mortally wounded that life did not go on… and get better!

Shortly after, I buried my mom. I let go of the grief of the loss of my marriage and replaced it with the grief over the loss of my mother. I won’t tell you that I have found compassion and understanding for my ex-husband leaving me during such a difficult time. I won’t tell you that I have minimized the hurt I sustained from that betrayal and subsequent abandonment.

I will tell you what you probably know. Time heals all wounds. Chocolate helps a broken heart. Do everything non-destructive and non-intrusive to others during your healing process. If you need to dance around naked in your living room and the drapes are shut and the kids are on overnight do it! There is not one way to arrive at the decision to forgive, it just happens. It happens when you decide to stop punishing yourself for what happened to you. Bouncing with Style is all about how you take care of yourself as you recover from what life throws at you. You can recover, you can rebound or you can Bounce with Style.
