It’s almost June and we are well into the second quarter of 2012. If you haven’t already done so, now is a great time to take a look at your business and marketing goals and review your progress.
Did you achieve your first quarter goals? Are you on target to achieve your larger 2012 goals? If not, this is a good time to regroup, revise your goals or change what you have been doing so you can still achieve those goals. It’s not too late to get back on track.
A great way to analyze your goals is by writing down the following.
1.	Your goal – What was your goal?
2.	Your result – Did you miss, meet or exceed your goal?
3.	Your plan – What are you going to do about it?
If you didn’t set goals for 2012 it’s not too late. Set some now. But, before you do, evaluate your efforts for first quarter and set realistic goals.
As a marketing consultant, I often hear, “I need help with my marketing. What can you do to help me?” Before I can offer any help, I need to know what the goals are. So the conversation starts with a version of the following questions
1.	What are your goals? or What is it that you are trying to achieve?
2.	What marketing avenues are going to be best to get you there?
3.	What are you currently doing to market your business?
4.	What have you done in the past to market your business?
Think about it like a hike. First you do research and determine your current fitness level, then you look at different hikes, next you decide where you’re going to hike, followed by figuring out what you tools you need to accomplish your hike and finally you set out. Setting goals for your business and marketing follow the same basic steps.
Whatever you do, don’t let fear stop you from setting goals. And remember, even the best and brightest have missed some of their goals. They just didn’t let it stop them!
Clackamas County will close Barlow Road at Rock Creek (Long Bridge) from Tuesday, May 29, through Monday, Oct. 1, 2012 for road and bridge repairs.

The 24-hour-a-day closure, which will extend from Highway 211 to Bond Road, is needed to repair the failing northbound lane and guardrail, replace two bridge timber pile caps and rehabilitate the stream bank.

Because one part of the project will require jacking up the bridge’s superstructure, and another part will be rebuilding the failing northbound lane, the work zone will be completely closed to all traffic. Posted detour signs will direct traffic around the closure on nearby roads.

We’ll spend some time indoors going over the basics and then get out on the library grounds to test your newly acquired skills.
All are welcome. We hope to have plenty of beginners looking to learn more. But we also hope to have some experienced cachers willing to team up with some new folks to help them around the beginner’s course we’re setting up at the chamber. We’d also appreciate some experienced cachers bringing GPS units that new folks can borrow out on the course if they don’t have one of their own.

Our Agenda is:
A Brief History of Geocaching
Explanation of cache types and a few useful terms
Introduction to GPS and satellite technology
Basic geocaching etiquette
The cache page at geocaching.com
and logging your caches on-line
The beginner’s geocaching course

The first major step in creating Clackamas County’s new 20-year Transportation System Plan (TSP) was taken by the County Board of Commissioners April 29 when they approved a vision, goals and objectives to guide the remainder of the project.

The 18-month TSP update process is being undertaken, as required by law, to review and update plans and policies for various forms of transportation – roads, transit, walking, bicycling, rail, air, freight, waterways and pipelines – in unincorporated Clackamas County. When complete in late 2013, the TSP will specify priority transportation projects for the next 20 years and address how those projects can be funded.

The vision, goals and objectives, which were recommended to the Commission after months of work by the TSP Public Advisory Committee, will be used to guide the work of the public, staff and the Commission in preparing a 20-year plan for transportation policies and projects in unincorporated areas of the county.

Commissioner Jamie Damon, stated that the 22-member Public Advisory Committee, “is an incredibly committed group of folks from all around the County, with all different perspectives and viewpoints.”

TSP Public Advisory Committee Chair Chips Janger, a resident of the Oak Grove area in unincorporated Clackamas County, told the Commissioners that “this is the farthest thing from a rubber-stamp committee that you have ever seen.”

The approved vision states: Building on the foundation of our existing assets, we envision a well-maintained and designed transportation system that provides safety, flexibility, mobility, accessibility and connectivity for people, goods and services; is tailored to our diverse geographies; and supports future needs and land use plans.

The vision is support by six goals — Sustainable, Local Businesses and Jobs, Livable and Local, Safety and Health, Equity and Fiscally Responsible — each with specific objectives to be taken into consideration throughout the update process.

More information about the TSP update process, upcoming events and opportunities to give input can be found on the project website at www.clackamascountytsp.com.

As expected, the January improvement in the Eugene-Springfield and Central Oregon regions was reversed in February, putting both measures back into negative territory.

Despite the decline, note that the moving average for both Eugene-Springfield and Central Oregon have trended upward since the beginning of the year, suggesting some underlying improvement. Sill, growth in both areas remains below its average over the 1998-2011 period.

Similarly, the Salem measure continued to slowly grind higher as conditions improve. The Rogue Valley measure, however, has edged downward in recent months, with low levels of building permits and high unemployment being a significant drag on the index in February.

The Portland region continues to outperform the rest of the state, and is growing near its average. Recent employment data is likely underestimating job growth in Oregon; future upward revisions may indicate Portland is actually growing somewhat faster than average.

A ceremony to mark the completion of Boring Station Trailhead Park will be held Saturday, May 19 at the newly-completed park in downtown Boring. A grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony is scheduled for 11 a.m. The event will be hosted by the Friends of Boring Station Trailhead Park.
Construction on the park, located near the intersection of SR 212 and Richey Road, began in September 2011 as part of a larger concept plan to convert the abandoned stretch of railroad into a regional trailhead, providing a welcoming destination along the 21.5 mile Springwater Corridor regional Trail which extends from downtown Boring to the Willamette River in Portland.
Supporters and contributors to the project include: The residents and business community of Boring; The Friends organization; Boring-Damascus Grange, Boring CPO, cities of Portland, Gresham, Damascus, Sandy and Estacada; Metro, the State of Oregon and Clackamas County Parks.
The park features a new restroom building, turf areas, bicycle racks, beautiful trees, parking for 30 vehicles and a paved connection to the Springwater Trail. Construction was supported by Metro’s 2006 natural areas bond measure, which included funding for communities across the region to invest in nature close to home.
