Gran Explosion en refineria GULF

Como a eso de las 12:30 de la madrugada se sintió una gran explosión en muchas partes del área metropolitana. La explosión puso a muchas personas a especular. Muchas personas salieron de sus casas asustadas por el temblor y el sonido estruendoso que se genero. El sonido que se genero fue impresionante y las casas temblaron a millas de distancia. 11 de 40 tanques de diferentes tipo de combustible estan en llamas.

El cielo esta alumbrado de color ámbar y la nube de humo se extiende en el cielo como aquella de una explosión atómica. Los medios informan que se trata un una explosión en los tanques de almacenamiento de la refinería Gulf en la carretera 28 de Bayamon a Cataño. Entendemos que ya el alcalde de Bayamon Ramón Luis Rivera dio un comunicado por radio donde le pide al pueblo que se mantenga en sus residencias y no se dirijan al sitio ya que esto impide el paso a los vehículos que tratan de controlar la situación.

Se siente otra explosión. Aparentemente uno de los tanques que quedaba, estallo ante las terribles temperaturas establecidas por el incendio.

Indica la uniformada que se reportan cristales rotos en los negocios y residencia cercanas a el lugar de lo sucedido a causa de la Mega explosion. También indican que hubo techos quebrantados en el cuartel de el peaje de Buchanan que queda a un kilometro de el lugar.

Se indica que el expreso #22 ha sido cerrado desde la salida de las Arenas en Toa Baja hasta la altura de Plaza las Américas para así evitar el rodaje en esa via cercano al fuego.

Se le sigue exhortando a los ciudadanos que se queden en sus casas y que no lleguen hasta el sitio para curiosear. Esto esta impidiendo que las autoridades no puedan llegar a brindar su ayuda de forma adecuada.

Aun se desconoce la causa de la explosión.

Gobernador de Puerto Rico pautado para dar otra conferencia de prensa al medio día.

La autoridad de puerto a establecido un perímetro cerca del área del acontecimiento, que solo embarcaciones autorizadas por las agencias Federales podrá pasar. Violadores podrán ser multados hasta $32,500.

Residentes de la comunidad Puente Blanco esta siendo movilizados a refugios dado a la nube de humos tóxicos que se esta acercando al lugar.

Las autoridades le siguen dando seguimiento a un "grafitti" que se encuentra a la entrada del túnel de Minillas el cual lee, "BOOM FUEGO RIP GULF" y es firmado por ACNF.

La agencia DACO ha congelado los precios de los combustibles. Evitando así que los comerciantes se aprovechen de la situacion.

For thos of you who use Ubuntu and are finding that the new flash player 10 is having some problems, all you need to do is remove Flash player 10 and install flash player 9 and all will be normal again. Just follow these instructions:

Nike+ & iPod Touch/iPhone

Looks like there is a lot of talk about the release of Nike+ to be used on the iPod Touch and the iPhone. The ups side I see out of this combination that that you really will not need a computer to upload your running logs to the internet. Using the 3G and the WiFi, you will be able to take advantage of these features and upload your logs instantly.

On the other hand, the idea of taking my iTouch to my runs does not excite me. Being bigger and "heavier", I really prefer my Nano. But just thinking that I will not need to hook up my Touch to the PC seems worth the while to me.

Debate is going on, on whether the iPhone is going to use its GPS capabilities to track the run and not use the Nike sensor in the shoe. Well, if it didn't need the sensor and it were going to use the GPS, then it wouldn't be Nike+ & iPhone would it? I would be just teh iPhone.

Still I am waiting eagerly till the product can be used with the iTouch.

80's The Club

Went with my wife this weekend to hang-out, and decided to go to 80's The Club(in San Juan PR).Since we are from that wonderful time and love the 80's music, we gave it a shot. Got there, place was not so packed, which is good. Music was good, nice selection. I was hoping it was a little louder though. But what really hot me was the fact that the decoration was fairly poor. The club was set up on top of and older decoration of the previous club "Egipto".

So there you are dancing to the 80's in an Egyptian background. Kind of throws you off a bit. The only 80's theme there was, were some glitter from the ceiling and a few Disco Balls. So if you are in Puerto Rico and visit the club, I'd say that you will have a good time. But don't get confused when you see all the Egyptian decoration.

Nike Plus - The sensor in the shoe

Recently I took on running again. Just for the sake of good health. But i needed to track my runs in a more technical way than just jotting down my times. So when I went to the shoe store to get some new Sneakers I thought I would give it a try and get the Nike+. So I get the sneakers, now I need to buy the sensor that goes in the shoe, that would later sync with the ipod Nano. Yes just the Nano. Not the iPhone not the iTouch....just and only the Nano.

Once i git the shoes and the sensor, I went on to give it a try. Went to the track walked some 400 meters to do the more accurate calibration. Then the running begins. Turns out the its really cool. I can select a song and assign it as my power song, while im running whenever i need that power song for extra boost I just press and hold the center button of the nano, and the power song will kick in. While running I can just press the center button (no holding) and a configurable voice male or female will tell me how much have i ran and long has it taken. Very nice.

Once you have finished your run, you can sync your ipod and the data can be sent to a profile you can create at www.nikeplus.com. Here you can see graphically your runs and your progress. Its a great way to keep record. I give it 2 thumbs ups.

La Vaca Acosta

Here is one of the favorite dishes among the persons who visit the restaurant "La Vaca Brava". Located between Barranquitas and Naranjito, the restaurant is well known for its generous proportions and creativeness when serving.

If you want a good seat, be there early. People fills the place very quickly. Sundays being the day of the week with most assistance. You cant get a waiting turn of up to a few HOURS! People don't mind, they just stay in the surrounding areas, waiting with their coolers at hand and standing by the river near by.

The dish you see here is called "La Vaca Acosta". Its a steak served on a bed of french fries, covered with mushrooms in a criolle sauce (local style). Very good. The plate it self is impresive, since the proportion is that of one being able to be eaten by just one person. Maybe not even 2 depending on the case.

The ribs above are called "Pablo Marmol" or in english Barny Rubble from the Flintstones. You can see why. Its a massive slab of ribs served straight up with fries. Every one I saw left a few ribs on the plate.Same thing goes for all of the other plates. Prices are way within reasonable. Thats why its so popular.

If your ever in Puerto Rico and want to visit a great local place, ask for La Vaca Brava. An hour and a half drive from San Juan.

I had a problem with my template. One day I just went to see my blog and there it was...BOOM!!! The whole layout was wacko!!! It had that little picture of photobucket in every area where there should be a picture on my template.

It took me a second to realize what was happening. At first I thought my blog was hacked, but no....that is not the case. I looked into the HTML code and started looking for the url's that refer to the images, then low and behold, that was it. The template had exceeded the bandwith from its source PhotoBucket.

I just wen ahead and selected another template and adjusted it, till i work on another template that I relate more to.

Tito Trinidad Looses

After much anticipation the moment had come. Tito vs Jones "Bring on the Titans". Waiting desperately, the bell rings...and they're on. Every one is cheering Tito Tito...looks like he is in good shape and we see him win the first round. Hurray, Tito Tito. Everyone very happy to see that Tito was winning the first 3 to 4 rounds. But then...it all turns around. Jones puts into plan his game play.

Assuming the defense of what everyone agreed on, was the style of Winky Wright. Impenetrable!!! Tito did not find any way to get to the inside of Jones. Tito tried going to the body and to the head, and in all attempts Jones smiled, as if to say "your not doing anything to me kid". Jones was Sure that his size and speed were to much for Tito.

Knocking Tito down in the seventh and in the tenth rounds respectively, Tito needed to produce some sort of big shot that would result in a knock down. Although he boxed very well he did not box well enough to beat the greater Jones. Eventually, the unanimous decision for Roy Jones Jr..

It was clear that the Titans were great, bur not as great as they were in there earlier years. Jones proved to be the better man, but had he have been in his earlier years once he had knocked down Tito, he would have kept on going looking for the finish. Tito on the other hand seemed to lack that power his left hook once carried.

Never the less it was a "great fight". The type of fight that promoters produce to make money. Although we love the idea of a fight like this with two great warriors. We also know that it would not be as good as it would have been, had the fight taken place some 8 years ago.

Tito is or "was" a great fighter. And in my mind I believe that he should stay in retirement. Obviously boxers now have seen the style of fight that Tito cant beat. Winky did it and now Jones fought the same way. Maybe its a sign to say that his time has come.

Although when it comes to money, promoters and boxers as well, will do anything it takes to get it. As anyone else will do in their profession.

Recently(today) I received an email stating that I was the winner of the amazing amount of 918,000 Euros as a result of a lottery. WOW!!!!. I continue reading in disbelieve because it sound so legit. While your reading you maybe thinking of all the thing your going to be doing with this money.

But then again I think "hey wait a minute, this is to good to be true". One thing I have learned and I think you will agree is that, if its to good to be true... its not true. I never entered any web lottery, so why should i win one. And by the way how in the world just gives out that amount of money?

Las Fiestas de la Calle San Sebatian

The origin of the Saint Sebastian street feast dates back to 1954 when Father Madrazo organized it in order to raise funds to restore deteriorated buildings on that street. Following the Spanish tradition, the original organizers included the "cabezudos" (big heads) representing the Catholic Monarchs of Spain, Ferdinand and Isabela, who together with the residents and participants would parade down the street. The tradition was temporarily abandoned when Father Madrazo left, but in 1970 in an attempt to raise funds to save the Parvulos school, Mrs. Rafaela Balladares joined forces with other members of the community and taking the reins of the organization of the feast gave it new life and color. Today the cabezudos represent characters of Puerto Rican folklore. Walking down the Saint Sebastian street its common to run into Juan Bobo and his pig, Doña Fela, Toribio, Diplo and others. Besides the cabezudos, the celebration is characterized by its traditional artisan fair, chess matches, presentations of "bomba y plena" and musical concerts. The religious aspect is represented by a procession in honor of the saint, followed by a mass, traditionally celebrated on Saturday night. The Institute of Puerto Rican Culture annually organizes the celebration of the Period Dance where typical period dress and music are key elements. But nothing compares to the happiness and bustle of all those who gather to celebrate the festivities. Taking advantage of the temporary suspension of the municipal ordinance which prohibits drinking in the streets of San Juan, hundreds of thousands of people literally overflow the streets of the old city dancing, yelling, singing and celebrating as only the Puerto Ricans know how.

Most likely when you read this you will be reading under a Windows platform. Meaning you have Windows installed. Either Windows XP, an older version or even the new Vista. WOW, Vista. I to have Windows installed, bit for a long time i have been also using Linux. You must have heard about it. The Open Source operating system that is FREE.

What does this Open Source mean? It means that all the programming that took place to make the operating system is available to you, YES!!!! There is a whole community of persons who are dedicated to developing and making this OS stronger.

If you don't know yet, web servers are highly dominated by Linux Servers running the preferred application for this mater....Apache. Now a days with developments from linux on the desktop, it is rapidly becoming the desktop OS of choice.

It has been adopted as the official Os by many countries in South America, also in Russia and in China just to mention some. With its ease of installation and use and its vast driver database using Linux on the desktop is a breeze.

There are many distributions also know as flavors for Linux. Some of the top names are: Ubuntu, Fedora, Suse among others. I personally use Ubuntu, a fast growing distribution that has been made favorite by so many.

A great thing about linux is that you can try it without having to tinker with your already existing installation. There is an alternative called a "live CD", meaning that you can download a live cd of the flavor of your choice, burn it onto a cd or dvd. Then you can boot from that cd or dvd and you will be able to try Linux from there. The OS boots completely from the cd/dvd fully functional. Try it and when you are done, just take the cd/dvd out and boot as normal.

I love this picture of my son at the beach. It is taken in a way that makes you think that the wave is tall, when it actually was only less than knee high. It was taken in Luquillo in the beach right in back of "Los Kioskos de Luquillo". Specifically "El Kiosko #2".

He is on his knees just when a small wave was about to break, giving the ilusion that a big wave is coming. Photo taken by my wife.

As I mention before the 6th of January is very celebrated here in Puerto Rico. Its a time where children receive gifts brought to them in tradition by the Three Magic Kings. But some families carry on a tradition of having a special celebration for this occasion. I had been told that there are some special places where great feasts were held on the 5th of January to receive the Magic Kings.

I went ahead and visited for myself, to see the festivities. First we went to the town of Isabela where in the area of Guajataca, the first celebration would be held. In the residence of a 93 year old local woman, who is responsible for maintaining this tradition. The whole neighborhood is invited to attend where music, beverages and food are available to the enjoyment of everyone. All expenses are covered by the family hosting the celebration.

The activity is done every year as a promise to God. This being the case and where all the locals are from a very strong religious background, the activity is held no mater the situation. Like we would say, the show must go on no mater what.

Once there you can see hundreds of person from many different places enjoying the food and the music all after the initiation of the activity has taken place. Before anything else takes place, all that are present start by praying "El Rosario" or the Rosary. Invoking the presence of God and giving thanks for all the good that has been given. After this takes place, every one continues to party.

I went on to meet many people, and was there till 2:00am, when at this time I was told that we were heading to another location where there was a similar activity taking place. This time we were heading to the town of Quebradillas in a sector called "Cacao".

It was about a 30 minute drive from where we were to the new location. once we arrived we could see all the cars parked along both side of the local road. Arriving approximately at 2:30am, I was surprised to see that many persons were still arriving not leaving. We got out of our cars and walked about 5 minutes to the location. It is a private residence, where a local artisan had made a living out of carving figures of the Three Kings. The story goes that business went so well, that the family decides to throw a party for all to come. Again food an drinks are on the house, music is lively and everyone is singing and dancing to the local Christmas carols or "aguinaldos". A small chapel was made in the residence premises to honor the three Kings. Know to the locals of Quebradillas as "El Portal de Los Reyes"(shown in part in the pic above).

The activity is know to be held from 6:00am on th 6th till 6:00am on the 7th. I can say that i was there till 4:00am of the 7th and still there were persons arriving to the site. Many awaiting the traditional "asopao de pollo" or chicken stew, which is know to give you strength after being up late at night.

Definitely a must do for my next year activity plan.

Three Kings Day!!!!!!

On January the 6th is Three Kings Day. Like Christmas in America, Santa brings gifts to all children that behave good, the Three kings also bring presents to all those who believe and have been good. Although not highly celebrated in North America, three Kings Day is highly celebrated here in Puerto Rico. With this celebration is the culmination of the 12 days of Christmas(thus the song says).

Tradition goes that all children on the 5th of January will pick grass and leave the grass in a shoe box for the camels to eat(similar to the cookies for Santa)at night time. Having done this they will go to bed, awaiting the arrival of the Three Kings with their presents. In the morning the children will be bewildered on how the camels ate the grass and left the presents. Its all part of the magic, that the Holidays bring.

Normally this day marks the end of the holiday season, but here in Puerto Rico we have extended the festivities another eight days. We call it "Las Octavitas". Here in the Island the Holidays are officially over, eight days after the Three Kings Day celebration. Many people still honor this tradition and continue making parties and celebrations. One of them being held in the Capital city of San Juan...."Las Fiestas de la Calle San Sebastian"

Roughly a month into creating my blog, and I am learning a lot. Now in 2008, my resolution for the blog is to develop it to the point where I am satisfied with the development of the site. Surfing the web and reading many other blogs, I search to obtain the knowledge to be able to chip in my own two cents in the blogging community.
