All you have to do is to say a little about yourself, who you are, and what your blog is about, why you feel qualified to write a blog about this topic and how you can be contacted. Pria berkebangsaan China ini adalah CEO dari Jumei International Holding, perusahaan ritel kosmetik online. Kekayaannya menanjak, saat perusahaannya Jumei melantai di bursa New York tahun lalu, dia juga pendiri Garena, salah satu platform game online.

#2. Pang Shengdong [US$ 1,2 miliar/Rp 15,6 triliun]

Satu lagi pria berkebangsaan China dalam daftar orang muda terkaya Asia. Pang Shengdong kekayaannya mencapai US$ 1,2 miliar, atau Rp 15,6 triliun. Dia adalah seorang ahli di bidang informasi teknologi (IT).
Pria ini adalah wakil direktur Shanghai 2345 Network Holding Group, perusahaan yang mengembangkan perangkat lunak untuk sejumlah sektor, seperti‎ perbankan, telekomunikasi, dan pengendali lalu lintas.
Pria berumur 38 tahun ini juga pendiri 51.com, jejaring sosial yang dibuka 400 juta kali per hari. Di negaranya, Pang sendiri adalah orang ke-25 terkaya. Dia juga dikenal dermawan dengan banyak menyumbang ke almamaternya, Universitas Ningbo.

#3. Yusaku Maezawa [US$ 1,3 miliar/Rp 16,9 triliun]

Maezawa yang berumur 37 tahun adalah pendiri Start Today, perusahaan di belakang suksesnya situs fesyen online, Zozotown. Kekayaan pria asal Negeri Matahari Terbit atau Jepang ini mencapai US$ 1,3 miliar Rp 16,9 triliun.
Dia juga seorang musisi profesional. Maezawa memulai karirnya di tahun 90-an, saat dia menjual CD (compact disc) musik dan menerima pesanan dari rumahnya.

#4. Kenji Kasahara [US$ 1,5 miliar/Rp 19,5 triliun]

Kasahara adalah penemu situs jejaring sosial Site Mixi. Pria Jepang yang berumur 39 tahun ini meluncurkan Mizi pada 2004, dan Mixi adalah layanan jejaring sosial paling terkenal di Jepang sebelum hadirnya Face‎book. Sejak kemunculan Facebook, Kasahara memfokuskan bisnisnya ke permainan mobile dan e-commerce.
Salah satu game buatannya adalah Monster Strike, yang telah diunduh lebih dari 20 juta kali di dunia, dan menghasilkan keuntungan per harinya US$ 2 juta, menurut laporan New York Times. Kekayaan bersih Kasahara kini sebesar US$ 1,5 miliar, atau sekitar Rp 19,5 triliun.

#5. ‎Naruatsi Baba [US$ 1,6 miliar / Rp 20,8 triliun]

Baba adalah wirausaha muda terkaya di Jepang. Bayangkan saja, umurnya baru 33 tahun tapi dia sudah punya kekayaan US$ 1,6 miliar, atau sekitar Rp 20,8 triliun. Baba menciptakan permainan ponsel pintar di 2008 bernama Colopl. Permainan tersebut sudah diunduh 10 juta kali dalam kurun waktu kurang dari setahun.
Setelah melantai di bursa pada 2012, perusahaan itu terus berkembang. Di 2014, pendapatan naik dua kali lipat menjadi US$ 450 juta, dibanding tahun sebelumnya. Salah satu permainan terkenal yang dibuatnya adalah White Cat Project yang bisa dimainkan dengan hanya satu jari.

#6. He Zhitao [US$ 2 miliar/Rp 26 triliun]

Zhitao tercatat memiliki kekayaan US$ 2 miliar, atau sekitar Rp 26 triliun. Anak muda berkebangsaan China ini adalah Chairman dan Presiden Hangzhou Liaison Interactif Information Technology. Dia serorang ahli dalam urusan infromasi teknologi, itu juga yang membuatkan menjadi salah satu anak muda terkaya.

#7. Yao Jinbo [US$ 2,2 miliar/Rp 28,6 triliun]

Jinbo adalah pendiri dan CEO situs 58.com, situs memberikan layanan iklan untuk penyewaan atau penjualan barang bekas‎ di 300 kota di dunia. ‎Perusahaannya pun sudah terdaftar di New York Stock Exchange.
Dia juga kini menjadi jajaran direksi Xueda Education Group, perusahaan yang juga didirikannya dan sekarang pun sudah terdaftar di New York Stock Exchange. Di umurnya 39 tahun, Jinbo sudah punya kekayaan mencapai US$ 2,2 miliar, atau sekitar Rp 28,6 triliun.

#8. Zhang Bangxin [US$ 2,2 miliar/Rp 28,6 triliun]

Pria asal China ini punya kekayaan sama dengan Yang Jinbo, yaitu US$ 2,2 miliar. Dia satu-satunya pengusaha yang bukan dari sektor technopreneur, atau pengusaha berbasis teknologi. Bangxin adalah pendiri, juga CEO dari TAL Education, penyedia layanan bimbingan belajar untuk sekolah dasar dan menengah di China.
Mengajar adalah pekerjaan paruh waktu Bangxin selama lulus kuliah. Dia merintis karirnya sendiri dan kini sudah punya institusi yang menjaring lebih dari 500.000 murid. Perusahaannya juga telah tercatat di bursa saham Amerika Serikat. Itu sebabnya, pria 35 tahun ini masuk dalam daftar anak muda terkaya dengan kekayaan mencapai US$ 2,2 miliar.

#9. Zhou Yahui [US$ 2,2 miliar/Rp 28,6 triliun]

Pria berumur 38 tahun ini menjadi salah satu anak muda terkaya menyusul perusahaannya, Kunlun Inc, melantai di bursa pada Januari tahun ini. Sahamnya naik 4 kali lipat pada beberapa minggu pertama perdagangan, menjadikan Zhou terkenal di dunia.
Zhou, yang berkebangsaan China adalah Presiden dari Kunlun, perusahaan teknologi yang menciptakan game atau permainan. Kunlun juga belakangan ini bekerjasama dengan perusahaan sejenis asal Finlandia, Rovio, yang terkenal dengan game Angry Birds. Kekayaan Zhou mencapai US$ 2,2 miliar.

Satu-satunya orang di luar Asia Timur dalam daftar. Arun Pudur, anak muda dari India ini punya kekayaan mencapai US$ 4 miliar, atau sekitar Rp 52 triliun, dan yang paling kaya dalam daftar Wealth X. Arun adalah CEO Celframe, perusahaan perangkat lunak yang menyediakan pengolahan kata. Perusahaannya jadi pembuat prosesor yang terkenal setelah Microsoft.
Anak dari sinematografer ini, memiliki jiwa kewirausahaan sejak berumur 13 tahun. Usahanya, mulai dari memperbaiki sepeda hingga beternak anjing. Dia menciptakan Celframe di Banglore, tak lama setelah lulus kuliah. Kini produknya sudah didistribusikan ke 70 negara. Kekayaan Pudur yang mencapai US$ 4 miliar juga dia bagi ke beberapa sektor usaha, di antaranya, tambang emas, batu bara, dan perumahan.
Dia juga kini ingin membangun tempat perjudian dan memulai bisnis maskapai di Afrika Selatan.

Demo Ahok juga Digelar di Malang dan Surabaya, Diikuti Ribuan Orang

Surabaya - Selain di Bandung, demo meminta polisi tegas ke Ahok dalam kasus penistaan agama juga digelar di Malang dan Surabaya, Jawa Timur. Demo diikuti ribuan orang. Massa mengatasnamakan berbagai organisasi.

Di Surabaya, massa menamakan diri Gerakan Umat Islam Bersatu (GUIB) Jawa Timur. Mereka menggelar tabligh akbar di depan markas Polda Jatim, Jalan A Yani, Surabaya, Jumat (21/10/2016).

Setelah menunaikan salat Jumat di Masjid Al Akbar, massa longmarch menuju ke Markas Polda Jatim. Ada yang membawa berbagai bendera ormas seperti dari Nahdlatul Ulama (NU), Hiyatullah, Perhimpunan Al Irsyad, Ikatan Dai Indonesia, Hizbut Tahrir Indonesia (HTI), FPI dan elemen lainnya.

"Kami tidak pernah meminta apa-apa, tapi untuk kasus ini kami dengan tegas menuntut, seret Ahok ke pengadilan, karena telah menghina dan menistakan agama Islam," kata Ismail Nahu.

Menurut Kadiv Humas Mabes Polri Irjen Boy Rafli Amar, sudah ada 5 saksi yang diperiksa, termasuk isi rekaman video pidato Ahok di Kepulauan Seribu pada Maret 2016 lalu tersebut. Di sisi lain, Ahok sudah menyatakan permintaan maaf.

95% of all affiliates make $0 – $100 a year. I don’t know about you, but in my books, this is not a living. In this quick “How To” guide, we’ll take a look at how you can become part of the 5% who ARE making their living online. This guide does not guarantee that you’ll make a fortune, but it will point you in the right direction if you’re interested in making a living as an affiliate.

1. Mindset: Get in touch with your grey matter. Program your mind with positive, committed thoughts. If you can believe it,you can achieve it. It sounds a bit like a sales seminar, but bottom line is, if you don’t believe you can make a living online, you won’t. You have to be committed. Commit to yourself that you will develop an income online – no matter what it takes. Think of your business as a bacon and eggs breakfast. The chicken was involved, the pig was committed!
2. Viewpoint: This is your business. Once you’ve accomplished your first hurdle and committed yourself to making this work, you have to look at your business from the proper viewpoint. No rose coloured glasses here. This is your business. You are the CEO of your own marketing company. You can choose to offer your services to one or several companies. Bottom line, you are responsible for every action in your company. Every decision you make affects your bottom line.
3. Learning Curve: Expect it. Becoming an affiliate is like going to college or university. You start at the beginning, learn the basics and build on what you learn. The next step is to find a business that interests you and offers an affiliate program with a reasonable commission. For information products, one of the most popular and profitable online, you can and should expect a commission of 25% or more.
Pick a product that interests you. Buy it and use it. Your business is based on your recommendations of a product or service. If you haven’t used it, how can you recommend it? Avoid running around in circles after the newest, hottest selling product of the day, it only leaves you dizzy and broke.
Choose a product you’re interested in. If you like astronomy, becoming an affiliate of a star chart company may be a good fit. Selling women’s pantyhose may not.

The quality of the response is also important.Did the response answer your question? Was it written in a friendly, professional manor? Did they answer your question directly or simply send you to a FAQ sheet?
8. Flip the switch: If everything checks out up to this point,then your next step is to take action. Fill out the affiliate application form and get your affiliate URL. Now the ball is in your court. It’s time to get down to brass tacks. If you freeze now, you make no money and flush your goals down the toilet. If you take action, you make it one step closer to your goals.
9. If you build it – they will come: OK not really, but you do have to build it. If you want to maximize your income and be taken seriously, you need to own a website. 10. Follow-up = Sales: Only 2% of your prospects will sign up or buy what you’re offering, on their first visit. 98% of yoursales will be made from your follow up. There’s a very simple method for following up and making sales automatically.
i. Check your favourite search engine to locate a free ebook, software program or report that relates to your offer. If you’re promoting a website that sells peanut butter, a free peanut butter recipe book would be a good match. Your give-away must always relate to the product you’re promoting to maximize the results of this system.
ii. Build a page on your website to give away your free peanutbutter recipe book. Design the page as if you were designing a sales page. Make people’s mouths water until they want the recipes so bad they’d gladly pay for them, but then give it to them free. All they have to do is fill in their name and email address in the simple form and you’ll send their recipe book to them instantly via email.
iii. As soon as your peanut butter prospect fills out the formon your site and clicks the send button, they are taken to your affiliate URL where they can buy peanut butter. At the same time, the peanut butter recipe book is sent to their email address.

Are you Blogging Effectively?

Perhaps “blogging” isn’t such a graceful word. For me, personally, it sounds like a worded drudgery the way cereals can be soggy, skies can be foggy, and the way minds can be groggy. But for now, it’s too late to rename this shortened word for web-logging. Widespread blogging is nevertheless one of the most engaging Internet developments of the past few years. As a medium it gives rise to many new and worthy voices and plays a new and vital force in shaping opinions, political realities, trends, and even our language.

I believe that a blog is simply a tool to use for someone who’s got something to say. Let me be clear in saying that a blog is a poor choice for someone who needs a megaphone to scream out to cyberspace in order to elicit a meaningful response from Internet users. If you want attention and want it now and expect blogging to bring it to you, then this will surely be a disappointment. However, if you like to write and engage others on subjects of which you have some command or experience, then it’s a wonderful application with which you can interact with people who share similar interests as you. The hype is well founded.
Anyway, here’s a list of blogging tips…
1.) Be topical.
Cohesiveness in message is not optional. Readers may or may not be interested in your topic, but if your message is haphazard that few will bother remembering to return to your blog because it essentially would offer nothing to remember. This doesn’t mean blogs can’t jump from subject to subject. For instance, a blog with a humorous focus has all the leeway in the world for subject matter, but it would be foolish for such a blog to turn the humor on and off. In such an example, the aspect of humor would be content’s glue, the strength of the blog. The beauty of staying on point and on topic is that eventually, due to the nature of the Internet, you will find those interested solely in your topic. (as opposed to online diaries. There are millions of them on the internet, few have any readers. Email me with examples if I’m wrong and I’ll be able to show you why you’re showing me a blog and not a diary.)
2.) Refresh your content
Create a schedule and stick to it. Realizing that blogging requires time and effort, don’t create unrealistic expectations and be unable to deliver. An occasional lapse or holiday is generally understood but readers returning to find stale, out-dated content are going to find another blog with similar content. New blogs and RSS feeds are popping up on a daily basis. If you have worked hard to develop an audience and a community you don’t want to lose them due to lack of communication.
And remember, what’s old is not new and, for blogs, thusly not interesting. 2006 isn’t the time to rail against Enron or Vanilla Ice. Insight doesn’t matter much to yesterday’s news.
3.) Clear Language Counts.
Blessed is the blog with a clear line of logic. Write without inside jokes, clique-y catchphrases or ambiguous logic. First time readers need to be close to your message. They are more likely to return to blogs that strike them positively. If the first read is confusing there will not be a second read.
4.) Feed the Spiders.
Search engines take notice of active blogs and blog search engines are especially sensitive to activity. If nothing else, search engines are smarter today than they were yesterday and are only getting smarter. In constantly improving they are seeking to aggregate quality; quality blogs are updated several times a week, if not daily, as opposed to once or twice a month. I don’t mean to scare you but a big spider is watching, so dance for them.
5.) RSS.
Think of RSS like a magic to blogging world, because that’s the effect it’s had. RSS feeds are a way to exponentially sound your voice to the interested. These feeds are a great means to increase the distribution and readership of your original content.
6.) Spell check.
Hey man, use the spell-check. I do – if I didn’t you probably wouldn’t have made it to #6. It only takes a minute and can save you from looking like a hack.
Your weblog audiences will be small at first. And, frankly, that’s the way it should be. Who are you to think that half the internet will flock to you after three or four posts of your blog, anyway?
If you tough it out while maintaining quality, readership will materialize. You will link to good, relevant blogs and, in turn, they will to you. While your voice may be unique, your niche likely isn’t and if your content is emitted smartly to the Internet those relevant readers will respond through readership and interaction. That I guarantee.

Reversing POF and Getting Pregnant!

Michelle Adams of Loving Heart Yoga shares her amazing, inspiring fertility success story with us.

When Michelle was 35, doctors diagnosed her with an assortment of ailments: hypothyroidism, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), interstitial cystitis (painful bladder syndrome), and, told on her birthday, Premature Ovarian Failure (POF). At the time Michelle had two daughters, ages 2 and 5, but, as she put it, “There was something in my heart that told me I wasn’t done having kids.”

A doctor told her that the only way she could have another child is through adoption or surrogacy. “I was told I wouldn’t be able to carry a baby because of my hormones,” she says.

At 35, Michelle had almost no eggs, and her FSH was over 100.

She had to do something! And not only because she wanted another child. Besides the emotional pain of this shocking news, Michelle also suffered serious physical pain and discomfort from her ailments. “I had to have a catheter placed in my urethra two to three times a week so that my urine didn’t burn. It was awful!

Michelle had already believed in a mind-body connection. In her 20’s, she had read Andrew Weil’s book, Spontaneous Healing, and explored the subject further.

“I knew there was a possibility to heal, but I had to tap into it,” she said. In response to her diagnoses, she started studying yoga, Tai Chi, and Chi gong.

“I went deep with the yoga because that’s what resonated with me, and it had the tools for me to heal,” she says. She started yoga therapy training at Loyola Marymount University and became certified to teach yoga to children. She also worked with U.C. Medical Center physicians as part of her training.

“The body is meant to heal and finding the tools and ways to get the mind out of the way is what it’s about,” she said.

At the same time, Michelle became much cleaner with her diet. She had always eaten whole foods, but she began to eat more of it organic. She gave up alcohol and chocolate. She was still eating meat and gluten at the time, though. (She no longer does.)

“Once I stopped all those things, my body got lighter.”

With all her healing work, Michelle was able to get her stress response under control. By age 39, she no longer needed to be treated for interstitial cystitis and in fact had stopped all her medications except those to treat her thyroid condition. She was still on the Prometrium and Estrogen, though, and this gave her a kind of cycle: bleeding each month, but without ovulation. The way it works with your body, she explains, “it’s kind of like being on birth control.”

So, at 39 and a half, when she started feeling tired and her breasts were tender, she laughed at herself for buying a pregnancy test. “I was just doing it for fun; I hadn’t taken a pregnancy test for seven or eight years.”

Imagine her shock when the test showed positive. Her doctor couldn’t believe it and had her come in. “My doctor said this just doesn’t happen. I’m the only one.”

Her daughters were 8 and 10 at the time, and she was pregnant with her son, Mathew. After learning she was pregnant, she went off the Estrogen and Prometrium, and her hormones improved overall.

“The experience was the best blessing I could have asked for,” Michelle says now. Through her work, not only did she achieve lasting peace, but it also gave her a sense of purpose and inspired her life’s work: to share the healing benefits of yoga.

At her fertility yoga practice in Southern California, 90% of the students in her “Heartfully Breathing, Receiving and Conceiving” program are pregnant in the first 12 weeks.

“It’s funny how things happen for a reason,” Michelle says.

Reflecting on why some of us have fertility issues, she adds, “Lessons don’t come to us when we are handed all that we desire. For couples who are dealing with infertility, it is a chance to grow as a person and as a couple.

“...Yoga, in particular, gives students the tools to illicit the relaxation response which ultimately improves their chances for fertility. But the tools we give them in class, carry them throughout their lives…. It is all about being in an optimal space, both physically, emotionally and spiritually, the majority of the day.”

Michelle also adds, “You can’t get to that place without a super clean diet; you can’t sit still in your body without it.”

After the birth of her son, when her hormones dipped again, she says she had to boost the healthy fats in her diet, get off all sugars, eat organic, have just a few grains. “If I had done more [for this diet] sooner,” she says, “I would have been pregnant sooner.”

What one piece of advice does she have for others struggling with fertility today?

“You never say never because you just don’t know… There is always hope, there is always an option. You do the work—the yoga, diet, and so on—and then you release and let go. You leave it to a higher power. Because ultimately, it’s not up to you.”

Michelle offers a phrase from yoga: “Ishvara-pranidhana,” which means surrender to the divinity within you.

Blogs can be a very marketable and very profitable tool if used correctly. Profiting from blogs is just a matter of grabbing the attention of an audience and not doing any actual salesmen selling. In this article you will learn the 13 most essential steps to successful blogging.

1) Where to start?
You should begin your blog with a free blog hosting service such as Journal Home. I don’t say that because I’m the owner, but a free blog host is very rewarding for a new blog. Starting with a free blog hosting service allows you to begin blogging instantly without having any advance knowledge of scripts, hosting, or programming. It allows you to build an audience and buzz for your blog. It allows you to focus on your content and not the internal maintenance of the blog. The best benefit of starting with a free service, is in the case your blog doesn’t become successful you do not lose any money or are you left holding the bill. The great thing about a blog is that they are organized in chronological order, your latest entry is displayed first. 3) Update Daily (nothing less)
This step is a must and not a suggestion. Updating your blog daily not only keeps your blog more interesting to readers, but it also gives your blog fresh content on a day to day making it more appealing to search engines. Not updating your blog on an occasional holiday or one day here and there is understandable to most, but missing days at a time or weeks is unacceptable and will most likely result in your blog being unsuccessful. Its better to use a service which gives you advanced traffic analysis, such as keyword tracking information, referral information, and search engine information. Visitors, returning visitors, and unique visitors should be standard for any page counter service you choose.
6) Listen to Your Audience
When using the proper page counter you should begin to see how others are finding your blog and if through search engines then which keywords are being used to find your blog. If constantly your blog is being found by 1 or more keywords then focus your blog around those keywords to make it even more powerful. When writing entry titles and entries use the keywords as often as possible while keeping the blog legible and interesting.
7) Multiple blogs

It is hard not to at least notice the word “blog” or “blogging”, with the frequency it seems to pop up in subjects ranging from politics to pornstars. Odds are that you have noticed it unless you have been living in a cave for the last four years. But even with that kind of familiarity of the word, few can say exactly what a blog is.

To understand the blog, first of all a little history is in order. The word “blog” is short for the word “weblog”. A weblog is a word coined early in the internet age to designate a journal or diary type page mainly consisting of personal thoughts and reflections. Most of the time it is updated frequently and can range in topic from the mundane to the profound. Sound familiar? It should. What it really is when you get rid of the hype is the good old fashioned diary which has been with us almost as long as language itself.
How long have “blogs” been with us? Well, one of the first instances could easily be ascribed to a work called “Kakheperresenb’s Complaint”, written by none other than the egyptian scribe Kakheperresenb himself. (Please don’t try to pronounce the name. You WILL get a headache. We will call him “K” from this point forward.) “K” made one of the first recordable blog entries in history circa 2000 BC. Of course “K” didn’t have the resources and technology we did today and his audience was probably limited considering the fact that most of the population was illiterate.
“K” left with us the memorable phrase, “’Would I had phrases that are not known, utterances that are strange, in new language that has not been used, free from repetition, not an utterance which men of old have spoken.” Obviously even then people with a blog were STILL trying to figure out what to write!
But no seriously, the blog IS the way to reach fame and fortune and make a little money on the side. Just ask Darren Rowse, whose most recent (August 2005) income total from Adsense was a little over $16,000! Yeah, that WAS three zeroes behind that 6. Not bad for a guy writing his own comments and ramblings about everything from sports shoes to bad movies. Of course Darren went so far as to even take a course in college on “Entrepeunerial Blogging”. Needless to say he must have paid attention.
But you need not take a course to have a good blog that generates hits. Blogger extroidinairre Chris Wright started his by simply posting job openings for engineers which he came across during his own job search. Word got around and before long he realized his hit count was going up and up and up… You get the picture. If you write something interesting that people need to know they WILL come to you – invited or not. As Chris’s own story perfectly illustrates.
So run this by me again, you say? You mean ALL I have to do is just start writing stuff about – NOTHING?
No, not exactly. As always, in the internet world and in the real world, content is king. Your writing must be somehow funnier, sharper, wittier, smarter, more bizzare or just plain weird in order for people to link to you and as a result drive up the hits to your blog and hence fatten your pocketbook.
But notice how many options you have. You don’t have to depend on your education. Nor do you need a rich and lavish lifestyle that you can blog about while others read with envy. If you can make the boring, dreary life of the average nobody funny and interesting people will come regardless. As mentioned earlier – CONTENT is king.
Good content = more visitors = more banner hits = more money.
So you want to know how to get started with this blogging thing?
It’s really pretty easy. There are a number of places that will allow you to host your own blog and most of them do it for free. Blogger is probably the most popular. But there are others. Try some of these on for size if you had rather go the more individual route:
Livejournal – This is the “kinda” cool and hip virtual location for the blogger crowd. You can link to other people by topic and it has some other cool features like the ability to allow posts from only certain people.
Diaryland – Diaryland doesn’t hids it’s origins. In fact it does it’s best to try and make your weblog look as close as possible to the good old fashioned diary/journal that we all know and love. They have a smaller and more intimate community than some of the other locations.
What if you are not sure you want to get started but instead want to just read blogs of others for a while until you get a better idea of what you want to say?
Well there are PLENTY of sites that do nothing but list and aggregate blogs of other people. Here are just a few to get you started:
Globeofblogs – Globe of blogs has a real international flavor. You will find blogs from literally everywhere here.
Blogarama – Another compendium of various blogs on subjects ranging from weird to wonderful.

Top-blogs.com – Okay so you want to know other success stories? Check out those near the top of the listings here. You will then see what it takes to reach the top.

Fertility Diet and the Journey to Our Second Child

Now that I am in my mid-forties and eight months pregnant with our dream second child, I thought it was important to share the story of our journey toward baby number two--which was different (and even more challenging) than the one toward our first baby.

If you’ve been following our blog or have a copy of our book, you probably already know the story of how we conceived our first child, our son, Julien, but I’ll summarize here. My husband and I had been trying for over a year to get pregnant when finally we went to see a reproductive endocrinologist (a fertility specialist). I had just turned 40. After all tests were done, this doctor explained that we had a 2% chance of conceiving on our own. This, even after polyps discovered in my uterus were removed.

Although devastated, I decided it was simply not acceptable that I don’t get to have a child, so I began to research all that I could do to help myself, to increase the odds. I ended up putting myself on a fertility friendly diet (the one outlined in our book), along with doing yoga, meditation and visualizations. My husband also followed the diet, and just four months later we conceived our son.

I believe deeply and whole-heartedly that we can make a difference in our fertility and our health—by the choices we make in what we eat and how we live.

Every day, we are utterly grateful for the miracle of our son—who is a complete delight, filling us with unexplained joy. Nevertheless, when we decided to have a family, in my mind that meant at least two kids. My husband and I both had siblings and were grateful for them. How could Julien not have a sibling?

When Julien was almost a year old, we tried (in earnest) again to conceive. By then I was 42 years old and my FSH had risen even more (to 16; the normal is below 10), telling me, from a western medicine standpoint, that the quantity and/or quality of my eggs was even further diminished than two years prior.

I did not let that deter me, as I thought of Julia Indichova, author of Inconceivable, who at 42 had an FSH of 42, and yet still conceived her daughter naturally after changing her diet and lifestyle.

But I did find it much harder to get into a Zen-like state with a toddler running around, and I feel that managing one’s stress is critical to fertility. As my 43rd birthday approached, I decided to step up the game. I got more strict with my fertility diet—which in any case had become mostly a habit for me—and started acupuncture.

A few months later, I felt my body was ready for one last shot at baby #2: we would do an IVF. The reproductive endocrinologist we saw remarked on my superb health; the perfect state of my uterine lining; and the strong, vigorous circulation of my blood. I knew this was the result of the work I had been doing and felt optimistic in spite of the dismal statistics (5% chance of IVF success due primarily to age).

But that cycle failed and left me thoroughly devastated.

It was our last chance. We had burned through our finances and beyond (our debt was huge!). There would be no repeat IVF. I wouldn’t want another IVF anyway. I believe when age is the primary factor, for most, one stands a better chance with nature. So, either I would get pregnant naturally, or I would have to find another path toward my second child.

But first I needed to heal. I needed to completely let go, and allow my husband to let go too. I didn’t realize until then, exactly how much pressure we had put on ourselves during this process.

Four months later, just two months shy of my 44th birthday, we got a happy surprise and conceived naturally. Our excitement turned to sadness, though, as I miscarried at 10 weeks.

After that, I did not give up on conceiving naturally, but I didn’t count on it either. I just “surrendered” to whatever was, and whatever will be. Finally, I had found some peace.

It’s at that time when I first allowed the idea of donor eggs to enter my mind.

It’s amazing that before, I wouldn’t even hear the words, donor eggs, but now that it might be, along with adoption, the only way I could be a mom again, my perspective completely changed. I not only opened up to the idea, but embraced it, and felt grateful the option was there.

Aiding my decision was this: my son, who was naturally conceived and has all my genetic material looks absolutely NOTHING like me. He is instead a carbon-copy of his Dad. And it doesn’t bother me in the least, because I know he’s mine and that’s all that matters. I have also had the privilege to meet all kinds of families and know that the good, strong ones are not defined by genetics, but instead by love, care, and a deep sense of security.

A donor egg baby, I knew, would be mine, too, just like my son.

One of the benefits of donor eggs (besides the 50 to 80 percent IVF success rates), is that the time pressure is relieved. As long as you and your uterus are healthy (for the most part), your age is not a factor. Not that we wanted to wait too long! But if we went through another baby-attempt, we were determined to do it from a calm, peaceful place—with our finances intact and minimal pressure.

We waited another year and a half or so, while we caught up on finances, passionately wrote and published our fertility book, and thoroughly enjoyed our son and our lives.

When I started to research donor egg programs, we found we couldn’t afford most of them. (Costs average between $40K and $50K.) Luckily, we found an affordable alternative in Reproductive Biology Associates (RBA)’s highly successful frozen donor egg program in Atlanta. For $16,500 (current price), we were guaranteed two high-quality embryos. We also selected RBA for their professional, caring staff and stellar referrals from many (pregnant) others.

Six months before our planned cycle, I got myself ready: I got more strict on our fertility diet again, as did my husband. I also practiced yoga when I had time, meditated daily, did visualizations and got weekly acupuncture treatments—but this time, in a calm “whatever will be” state. Although my eggs would not be in the picture, my uterus and body, which would be nourishing an embryo, helping it “take” and grow, most definitely would be a part of the picture, and I wanted that body, and its driver (my mind), to be in perfect health for the job.

As it turned out, I had polyps in my uterus again, but they were successfully removed. After that, our cycle could not have gone smoother. Not only did I get pregnant, but we had two high-quality embryos to freeze for possible future use.

Our daughter is due the end of July, 2011, and I cannot wait. My husband and five-year-old son are also very excited. I found, in being pregnant and feeling her kick and move inside me the last few months – she is already so much a part of me and our family, I feel so close to her, that I often forget that we used donor eggs to conceive her. I know this happens for other parents of donor egg babies too.

I share this journey with you to show that there are many routes to parenthood, although I know it’s important to be ready and open for the route you choose. I also share this story to demonstrate the importance of maintaining one’s health (physical, mental and emotional) through this process.

Fertility Recipe: Vietnamese Chicken Noodle Soup

If you live in the northern hemisphere, where it's the middle of winter, a hot, nourishing bowl of soup right now will soothe and comfort your body. Here's a simple-to-make recipe from our book, The Fertile Kitchen(R) Cookbook.

Ingredients:

2 chicken breasts (12 to 16 oz)

1/4 onion, sliced

About 10 broccoli florets (6 to 8 oz)

5 oz thin rice noodles

2 cubes of vegetable broth

1 jalapeno

1/4 bunch of cilantro

Soy sauce (on the side)

1.5 quarts of water

10 leaves of fresh basil

1 lemon

Recipe:

Cut chicken breast into 1/2-inch cubes.
Cut onion into slices.
Cut broccoli into thumb-sized pieces.
Place water and vegetable broth in a pot and bring to a boil on high heat.
Add chicken and onion and let boil for 2 minutes.
Add rice noodles and cook for another 2 minutes.
Add broccoli and cook for another 1 minute.
Serve soup with soy sauce, sliced jalapeno, cilantro, basil leaves and lemon on the side.

NOTE: You can also add these ingredients directly to the soup before serving, according to taste. Add jalapeno with caution (it’s hot!).

Diet: Stevia and Fertility

I have written about how wonderful Stevia is as an alternative to sugar. It's a natural herb said to be 10 to 15 times sweeter than table sugar and it won't negatively impact blood sugar levels. For those with a sweet tooth especially, I think it's great.

I recently received this question, though: I have heard various things about staying away from stevia while trying to conceive. Have you? What do you think?

Here's my answer: Yes, I have caught wind of some controversy over stevia and fertility and have looked into it before. The study that some refer to regarding negative fertility is one in which extremely large amounts of stevia (something like 5 or 6% of their body weight) was given to both male and female rodents, which subsequently affected their fertility and led to fewer and smaller offspring. A couple of things to say about this: no one would consume such a huge amount, esp. given that it is 10 to 15 times sweeter than table sugar. (For a 120-pound person, that’s about 7 pounds of stevia/day). If we consumed that amount of regular table sugar per day it too would negatively affect our fertility, and health – dramatically. So the study can be taken out of context. Also, numerous other studies followed (including another one on hamsters also with high doses of stevia) and found this not to be true at all, and found stevia to be safe. Not only that, but it’s a natural herb that amazingly does not affect blood sugar levels, which makes it esp. great for those suffering from diabetes—and a great alternative to regular sugar.

I think where stevia can have potential problems is when it gets packaged as a sweetener. I advise in our book (on pg. 12) that when you purchase stevia, be sure to read the label and make sure it’s pure. Some packaged forms add maltodextrin (sugar) and silica (you can Google that) – and although it’s in small amounts, it’s better not to have those forms with additives. Get it pure and use in small amounts, as it was intended.

I speculate that part of the reason the FDA in the US resisted approving stevia for a long time, and perhaps why the EU has banned its use for now, is that if allowed to be used in products as a sweetener, such as to sweeten soft drinks and a wide array of food products, in-take across a population would increase a lot, and they may feel they need more information before allowing that. There is also the political side (sadly). Artificial sweeteners have a lot of money and lobbying power (in US) and although these chemical sweeteners have been proven time and again to have ill effects on our health, the FDA has approved them.

I feel stevia is completely safe and a great alternative to sugar in the normal amounts with which we would consume them. Finally, something I found on the Internet from the Laboratory of Functional Biology, KULeuven:

“In 2004 researchers of the KULeuven (Belgium) organized an international symposium on “The Safety of stevioside”.
