Gone are the days, when mobile phones were just used as a mere communication device. Today, the usability of mobile phone has stretched its wings much further. From listening to music to watching movies, creating presentations, drafting email, mobile phones can perform every activity based on the principle of communication. And what actually made all of this feasible is the availability of Internet on cell phones. You will be amazed to know that by the year 2013, the world would have over 1.7 billion mobile internet users.

The changes in the functionality and usage of these mobile phones also accompanied some changes in the applications that are being used. The developers are very much interested to come up with innovative business application software that will help people to keep in touch with their business while on the move. On the same lines, JKT serves mobile business application development that reduces costs, boosts productivity, and gives new revenues to the business houses.

Besides ERP software, SAP has an enviable track record in other fields, as can be seen in the credentials that its accounting software has received in recent days. The organisation reveals that it has been handed the numero uno position by Interactive Date Corporation in its Worldwide Financial Accounting Application 2010 Vender Share report. The accounting software was complimented on its ability to deliver high standards of insight and trigger an improvement in performance.

Europe on a ‘Cloud’- From the Euro Cloud Congress 2011

At the recently concluded EuroCloud Congress in Luxemboug, Rainer Zimmerman, a key adviser at the Commission on technology policy, pointed out that cloud computing already accounts for around €35 billion of economic activity within the EU, which for a growing industry puts it within striking distance of more mature industries such as semiconductors (around €250 billion) and telecoms (some €2000 billion) — certainly big enough for policy makers to take notice. Some key innovators which bagged awards at the event had cloud computing implementation as a key to their success strategy:
•	The experience of retail giant Carrefour won the French Award for local company PageOnDemand.com, reducing paper catalog production timescales from six weeks down to three with a flexible solution that could be deployed instantly and easily made available to a broad population of users.
•	CRM vendor Really Simple Systems was a winner in the UK with its case study of how accountancy firm RSM Tenon was able to manage complex prospect relationships across 14 different offices to grow its business. Having an easy-to-use cloud application that was accessible from anywhere was a key factor.
•	Eight years old and with nine employees, Netherlands winner Reflex Online is a typical example of how a small ISV can be highly successful with the cloud model. Its online appointments system for retailers, recreation and facilities providers is highlighted in a case study with a Netherlands chain of opticians with over 250 stores making a total of around 2,000 appointments every day. The cloud solution has helped this retailer take advantage of the Web to provide a better, more efficient service to its customers.
•	Swedish winner eBuilder is helping 124-year-old Swedish industrial equipment giant Alfa Laval to stay competitive and improve efficiency, easing business process workflow and integration with partners and customers. Using eBuilder’s cloud process platform, outsourced logistics provider DHL manages end-to-end order fulfilment from Alfa Laval’s factories in Sweden to warehouses, distribution hubs and customers all over the globe.

•	Cloud ops and infrastructure. “You must have at the bottom a rock solid infrastructure — and invest a fortune to get there,” he said. The presentation included a video emphasising the scale of investment that SAP has put into building its own resilient on-demand data center, with enough diesel fuel and coolant to survive a two-week power outage.
•	On demand solutions. “You must build native cloud applications,” he said, admitting that SAP had previously invested in a hybrid architecture that had not worked out. That strategy has now been abandoned, he said. “What we are designing as SAP’s applications for the cloud, we’ve not taken a single line of source code from our existing applications.”
•	Co-innovation and ecosystem. “You must take partners with you,” said Zinow. SAP’s previous technology generation took maybe 15 years to create, he said. There is not the same breathing space today. “This time we believe we have three, maximum five years and we have to take our partners with us. Having a platform on which partners can build their businesses is equally important.”
•	New ways to sell or buy. “Cloud computing allows you to do business independent of the size of your company,” he said. Citing the examples of eBay, Amazon, he said, “What e-business did for the retail industry, cloud computing will do for any type of company.”

Expect more updates from the EuroCloud Cogress shortly.

Welcome to the JKT SAP Blog again! Here is a quick introduction to the Business Workflow in SAP!
Lets begin with describing a workflow. A workflow can be defined as a model that describes a sequence of operations, representing an actual business process.
An easy example to start with would be a leave request. Say an employee calls the manager, asking for a leave for vacation. The manager would first ask for dates, post which he would either say “vacation granted” or “not happening”.
When one approaches a workflow engine, the process can be categorized as automated. When a person working in the organisation fills the details about his query in a familiar environment (for eg. Outlook, SAP UWL or SharePoint), the manager would get an intimation about the same. He would then have a choice of approving it or rejecting it.
While one can find a number of workflow engines in the market, the SAP Business Workflow is one of them. Being the most successful workflow engine to date, allowing execution of business processes within SAP application systems. It comes bundled with predefined models of workflow, involving modelling environment, allowing a customer to design his own workflows, tailored for his specific business needs.

You have done your research and know the entire list. A lot of “experts” have tried to sweet talk you into one thing or the other. But which functional modules are in and which are not? We do a quick check!

Before we get onto this journey, one this must surely be kept in mind. What sometimes works is not a particular module, but where a combination of modules is used. A good example could be SAP MM and SAP PP which may not be great on their own, but if taken together as “Logistics” with a bit of SAP SD thrown in, they definitely make the cut. Your background goes a long way in figuring out what’s the best thing to pursue as well. Just sticking to the trends is not a great thing to do.

So with that in place, let’s look at some of the hottest modules in SAP, ranked in terms of their relative consulting demand:

1) FI/CO(Financials) – Financials remain the hottest thing out there in the “SAP Function Modules” arena, driven by the core upgrades. Let’s divide it into three areas: Financials (FI), Controlling (CO), and “value added” components. One really needs that ERP 6.0 upgrading experience in the core Financials area. ‘Accounts payable’ may not be the most sought after, but when you have General Ledger under your belt, you are in the league for sure. With SAP’s multi-lingual possibilities, it is possible to have a top-down GL structure that integrates parallel lines of sub ledgers in real time. A good skill to own, compliance-based reporting is yet one more reason why the SAP Financials(FI) demand ranks the highest. The CO module or the “controlling” areas are also in demand. SAP has been finetuning its CO components for a while, and the functional areas in CO are strong, and starts leading into BI/SEM, which is not a bad skill to have on the resume either.

2) HR/HCM (Human Resources/Human Capital Management) - HR/HCM is a category slowly inching towards and vying for the top spot. Having core upgrades in its centre as well, HR/HCM is remaining hot in part because HCM is emerging as a competitive advantage for companies (as opposed to the traditional HR administrative/back office approach). This is causing a growth for those who are skilled in Performance Management configuration, as well as E-Recruiting, and a similar surge can be looked at, in the need for other areas of Talent Management as well, as more and more companies realize that they need the best possible software solution to aid in their attempts to recruit and retain top talent as a key competitive driver. Being one of the hottest areas of Talent Management, it is important because you can’t manage talent unless you can systematically evaluate and reward performance.

3) SD (Sales and Distribution) – It is not surprising to see Logistic upgrades being pulled into extended Supply Chain Management (SCM). When it comes to the distribution side of SD this is a sought after area. There is also a growing requirement for SD-Variant Configuration, which often ties into PP and MM. Besides these, there is also Pricing, which can be very sophisticated, and the bread-and-butter Billing component comes into play also. Another area looking at driving demand for SD consultants is the SD-GTS (Global Trade Systems), now frequently called GTM (Global Trade Management) – a key area for many international SAP implementations, and one that requires significant expertise to configure properly. Requirements regarding international tax are complicated, and SAP’s GTM solution is going to play an increasing role in this. Sales and Distribution covers a lot of area, from the “sales” side of SD tying into CRM, and the “distribution” side tying into overall Logistics side of SAP as well as the Supply Chain Management (SCM) components. SD’s integral role in all these areas promises continued consulting demand.

4) WM (Warehouse Management) – A surprising entrant here is, Warehouse Management, which has made a big rise from earlier days. Of late there have been more emphasis on WM jobs lately and that is because SAP’s WM component is starting to win more projects over the best of-breed warehouse management systems that many companies previously opted for instead of SAP WM.

5) PS (Project Systems) – This continues to gain a strong foothold as a perhaps unexpectedly popular SAP niche area. A versatile module that links up with several key areas of SAP, but the PS-FI/CO integration between PS and the costing components in the SAP CO (Controlling) module is probably the key to the ongoing demand in this area.

That concludes a quick check into the world of SAP modules. There are successful consultants across all these verticals and so many more. If this helps in giving a better sense of providing an answer to which functional skills are most prevalent, the job here, is done.
