High Level Things you would probably need to do

- Ensure a condition based tax procedure is used. SAP's proposed roadmap is for TAXINN

- The Govt has said that the Outgoing invoice will be validated by GST Network, so the same would probably be an interface to GST Network, something like a Golden tax in China

- The GST in India will be a dual structure tax regime, so you will need to set up the requisite condition types in your tax procedure and in your sales schema

- If you are not on TAXINN, you will need to migrate to TAXINN given as per roadmap by SAP

- Every GST No will be at state level, so configuration change will be required for the same to be set up as Business Place in SAP

- You will have to be on the required SP Level as per the details which will be provided by SAP.

- There will be some amount of overlap for VAT and GST Regime expected, so you would need to plan for a transition time for the tax applicability and how to migrate the open documents from VAT to GST. Of course, this will also depend on legal guidance on GST from the Govt and it is still under works.

The Business Network for Retail

As like the GANGES or the RIVER GANGA in India connects the country with taking everything along, in an organized manner and cleans the things. Even after that the water of the GANGES is transparent. Similarly SAP has recently launched, a Cloud-based HANA offering, SAP Ganges to connect the retail market in India.

India has one of the biggest small retail (Kirana) markets in the world, this is very inefficiently managed. Small retail business owners in India are often isolated from and negatively impacted by supply chain factors.

The manufacturers, wholesalers, and distributors may be forced to rely on a delayed information flow and lack the infrastructure to connect and manage data from their own customers, especially when their operations are scattered across the country. That limits the growth potential of the market and they have a risk of not being able to compete for business just in time.

SAP has tried to address this issue in India with SAP GANGES.

SAP Ganges will connect the consumer products companies (CPG-Consumer Packed Goods) with their distributors and retailers and gives them real-time information to improve their supply chain efficiency every day.

It will transform the business with the insights generated form the last-mile-connectivity enabled by SAP Ganges.

This solution uses the cloud platform and is designed to enable FMCG companies to obtain greater visibility into their sales network - who is selling how much of what, etc - and enable better forecasting.
It enables distributors to take orders, track inventory at retail stores and receive payments digitally.
It enables banks to assess credit eligibility of retailers. And it enables retailers to connect to their business network.
Each time the retailer punch the information about items sold, the data goes to a SAP cloud centre running on its Hana (in-memory, big data computing- see my article SAP Hana) platform, which captures and analyzes all data. The FMCG companies can get to know what products are moving and where. FMCG companies can send out promotions (discounts) to retailers through this system, and can even target the small retailers.
At the other end, the retail (kirana) store can quickly understand at the end of the day what its collections have been, what it has sold, and send messages for replenishments.

The solution will be integrated with point of sale (PoS) devices.

This solution will:

What is SAP HANA?

SAP’s High-Performance Analytic Appliance (HANA)

SAP HANA Enterprise 1.0 is an in-memory computing appliance that combines SAP database software with pre-tuned server, storage, and networking hardware from one of several SAP hardware partners. It is designed to support real-time analytic and transactional processing.

SAP has released SAP HANA in December 2010.

In a layman language: SAP HANA is a unique combination of Hardware and Software designed to Process Large amount of Real Time Data using In-Memory Computing.

What is In-Memory Computing?

Now let us understand what In-Memory Computing is:

Computers typically store data on the hard disk, and when you want to perform a task, it pulls out the relevant data and applications for the purpose on to the computer's main memory, which is where computations happen.

With the emergence of multi-core processors and the sharp decline in prices of processors and memory, SAP has made it possible for even large enterprises to dispense with hard disks and store and perform all operations on the main memory.

It boosted performance enormously compared to systems based on retrieving data from hard drives.

Why HANA?

There are two major reasons of SAP HANA:

1. Data Explosion:

It’s no exaggeration. Organizations today are experiencing a data explosion. The volume of information is growing very rapidly. The reasons organizations are collecting and storing more data than ever before is because their businesses depend on it. In order to analyze these huge amount of data, the traditional way will take a long time.

Replacing complex data warehouses with in-memory data storage is important.

Data warehouses aggregate data in various different aggregates. With in-memory computing, we don't need to do the aggregates.

2. Real Time Information:

To keep the pace of the dynamics of the business, enterprises need to get the reports significantly faster. SAP HANA has helped the Enterprises to reduce the time of very complex reports from Hours to Seconds.

How does it work?

Without any change in the Application and Database, SAP HANA gives extreme performance in Reporting with BI Tools

Database structure of SAP HANA

BIG Data is divided into multiple sets which are then compressed and processed separately by the Blades which are composed of multiple CPU’s per blade and each CPU has multiple cores per CPU.

Column Wise Data Storage in SAP HANA

Conventional Database store records in Rows, whereas HANA stores data in Column wise for fast computing. Storing data in Columns enables faster In-memory processing of operations. Column layout supports sequential memory access.

SAP HANA does manage data in memory, for nearly incredible performance in some applications, but it also manages to persist that data on disk, making it suitable for analytical applications and transactional applications – simultaneously.

In the long run, SAP HANA may indeed revolutionize enterprise business applications. SAP HANA should be capable of creating substantial customer benefits – and generating a very large revenue stream to SAP.

Installation and Configuration of SAPGUI for Fedora, Ubuntu and OpenSuSE Linux

A). Pre-requisite for Installation of SAP GUI on Linux :

1. Linux system should have been installed with JRE (Java Runtime Environment)from SUN Microsystem (http://java.sun.com - Free to download). Some linux (like Fedora, Ubuntu, Open SuSE etc.) uses JRE from GNU i.e. GIJ, this needs to be replaced.

2. Free Download the SAP GUI for Java Installer from ftp://ftp.sap.com.

B). Steps to follow for JRE:

1. Logon as root
2. Copy the JRE installer file to /opt folder. Please use .bin extention file.
3. Change file permission if needed to executable. Use this command : #chmod 755 jre-1.xxx.bin (xxx = refer to JRE version).
4. Extract JRE files. Use this command : #./jre-1.xxx.bin
5. Install JRE which have been extracted inside alternatives system. Use this command : #/update-alternatives –install /usr/bin/java java /opt/jre1-xxx/bin/java 2
6. Update java command configuration on alternatives system. Choose java number 2 because usually GIJ had number 1 position. Use this command : #update-alternatives –config java
7. Use this command to verify the JRE configuration. Use this command : #java - version
8. Following message means configured successfully : java version “1.6.0″

Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.6.0-b105, mixed mode, sharing)

C). Steps to follow for SAPGUI installation for Java:

1. Logon as root
2. Use this command (on terminal) to install SAPGUI for Java. #java -jar PlatinGUI- Linux-xxxx.jar (Use the latest version).
3. Installed on /opt folder as default (usually on /opt/SAPClients folder)

D). Steps to follow for SAPGUI configuration for Java and Connection of SAP R/3:

1. Run executable file called guilogon (reside on /opt/SAPClients/SAPGUI700rev1/bin). It willpop up SAPGUI for Java window.
2. Click New button.
3. Fill the Description column as you like.
4. Click Advanced Tab.
5. Give check (V) to Use Expert Configuration
6. Fill the connection string. If the server in in load balancing configuration, use this connection string conn=/M/(IP_Address_Message_Server)/S/36(system_number)/G/ (nama_group) and use this connection string configuration if yor SAP R/3 server are not using load balancing system, conn=/H/(IP_Address_server_SAP)/S/32 (system_number).
7. Connection with SAP R/3 can be checked.

Systems Applications and Products in Data Processing

(German: Systeme, Anwendungen, Produkte in der Datenverarbeitung)

It started in 1972 by five former IBM employees by Wellenreuther, Hopp, Hector, Plattner and Tschira in Mannheim, Germany, states that it is the world's third-largest independent software vendor.

The goal of the company was to provide large enterprise customers with the ability to interact with a corporate database in real-time.

Today, the company states that its goal is "to offer the industry's most comprehensive portfolio of business performance and optimization solutions for companies of all sizes."

SAP's first software application was a Financial Accounting Software suite that ran on a mainframe and was known for its stability. It eventually became known as the R/1 system. The "R" stands for real-time. During the 1980s, the company went international, and the second iteration of the R system (R/2) accommodated different languages and currencies. In the 1990s, the third iteration (R/3) moved from the mainframe to a client/server three-tier architecture composed of a database, software applications and a common Graphical User Interface (GUI). SAP used the name R/3 until the 5.0 release. At that time the name was changed from R/version to ERP Central Component (ECC). The most current version as of November 2009 is ECC 6.0.

When the Internet became pervasive, SAP responded by providing companies with the software they needed to sell goods and services online. Their product portfolio got a Web interface and was rebranded MySAP.com.

How to restrict the number of SD Line Item in Billing Document (Maximum Number of items in FI reached)

SD configuration allows you to setup document splitting rules.

This sets a maximum number of SD line items on a billing document.

When SD billing is executed, it creates more than one billing document (and therefore FI document) whenever the threshold is breached by maximum 999, the system gives the error message "Maximum number of FI reached, No Accounting Document Generated"

Simply work out how many FI line items you generate per SD line item.

e.g If you create 3 FI line items per SD line item, then the maximum number of SD line item would be 333 in a billing document.

Therefore, you need to define maximum number of Line item in Billing Document.

To customize it you need to go to:

Go to IMG path -- SD --> Billing -> Billing Docs -> Country specific features.

There select your sales organization and maintain the maximum number of line items you want in billing.

Also in copy control VTFL, for your item category, you can see a field "data VBRK/VBRP" where you maintain routine 006.

"India is slowly getting expensive," SAP Chief Executive Officer Henning Kagermann said in an interview published Monday in the German edition of the Financial Times. "We have decided to hire a certain number there, and then start looking at other locations."

Note : Billing Block prevents the Invoicing. Delivery Block prevents the creation of Delivery in general. It allows the delivery and Picking but blocks the PGI (Posting Goods Issue). Reason for Rejection can be entered in one or more line items. In copy control, these items can be stopped from being copied into subsequent documents.
