Getting rid of nasty Facebook apps

A friend posted a status update that I thought might be interesting see "my first ever status message." I gave the app access...and it started auto posting statuses for me.

In other words, a scam. Darn it! These things can be dangerous. I quit it when it asked me to take a survey before it would show me my first status update.

Here's how you get rid of these lousy things:

Go to Account > Privacy Settings > Apps and Websites (on the lower left corner of screen), and choose "Edit your settings..."
Now you will be on the Apps you use page. Click the Edit Settings button and find the app you want to remove. Click the small "x" to the right of "Edit Settings" for the app you want to get rid of and a box will pop up.
Click "Remove" in the box that pops up and click "Okay" to finish. Nastiness removed!

Update:

Alanna had a meet and greet on Tuesday and found her forever home! Although I was VERY happy for her, I cried myself all the way home. I love and miss her so much!!
BUT, I’m VERY happy that she’s going to a GOOD home because she was very deserving of a 2^nd chance. It was very difficult to say goodbye and leave her, but my very dear and good friend Deanna gave me words of comfort when she said…Alanna is finally HOME. ….and what a wonderful home she has!!! Please see the update below from the wonderful couple who adopted her and are now giving her lots of love and comfort and allowing her to live out the rest of her life as she so truly deserved! .

Alanna's new "mom" writes:

Just wanted to update you on our new four-legged family member: Alanna is doing GREAT!

The first night she slept on TOP of me in bed and I just laughed all night. The next morning we were off to Ely and she did the drive very well. Here at home we've walked and walked and walked, met neighborhood dogs and spent some time just cuddling at home. We want to make sure she feels comfortable and understands that this is "her" home now too.

She never lets us out of her sight, ever. And I think she is trying to figure out which one of us adults she's supposed to stick to, me or Tyler. She's really a great girl and we feel lucky to have her. Oh, and NO pee accidents at all. I saw her do a submissive pee once with Tyler outside tonight but that's the first time.

She seems to nibble on food a little at a time verses gobbling everything all at once. I've added meaty things or yogurt and then she makes it disappear. (adjusting to new food since we don't have NutroMax here).

Treats, on the other hand, no problem! Our little two-year old gives her treats and she's very gentle with him. She loves playing and throws her toys up into the air like a wild woman! And then a second later is as calm as ever, like she has an on/off button. Well, that's our update. We love her, thank you!!

She is the sweetest and most lovable dog!

She also very playful and plays so gently with me and my dogs, and gives everyone kisses, including my dogs. She’s so affectionate and loves to cuddle. I can't even begin to explain how cute and sweet she is, so if you know anyone who might be interested, please pass this email on. She also listens very well, and even barks less then my dogs.

She’s a German Sheppard/Husky mix, about 1 – 2 years old, and sheds A LOT like my dog Angel (who also is a Sheppard Husky mix)….but they’re worth every hair!

Alanna is a rescue dog from MARS (Midwest Animal Rescue)

She is named after one of the women who rescued her. She’s from Ohio (a high kill state) and was picked up as a stray with her friend Lynn, and schedule to be euthanized because nobody claimed them. Please help give them a second chance. Her friend Lynn is also in a foster care now, and we plan on having play dates for them.

In this photo she’s playing with Zukor, and later fell asleep next to Angles feet. She’s even cuter in person :)

She is a dog that I’m fostering and I can tell you if I didn’t already have 2 BIG dogs I would keep her myself. I’m not just saying that. I wouldn't do that because I want her to go to a home that will be a good fit

A very old man lay dying in his bed. In death's doorway, he suddenly smelled the aroma of his favorite chocolate chip cookies wafting up the stairs.

He gathered his remaining strength and lifted himself from the bed. Leaning against the wall, he slowly made his way out of the bedroom, and with even greater effort forced himself down the stairs, gripping the railing with both hands.

With labored breath, he leaned against the door frame, gazing into the kitchen. Were it not for death's agony, he would have thought himself already in heaven.

There, spread out on many sheets of wax paper on the kitchen table were literally hundreds of his favorite chocolate chip cookies.

Was it heaven? Or was it one final act of heroic love from his devoted wife, seeing to it that he left this world a happy man?

Mustering one great final effort, he threw himself toward the table. The aged and withered hand, shaking, made its way to a cookie at the edge of the table, when he was suddenly smacked with a spatula by his wife.

“Stay out of those,” she said.

“They're for the funeral.”

Dave and I recently won what the New York Times likened (somewhat) to the Oscar and Tony Awards for creating short tech content on Twitter.com via our "channel" @Twitter_Tips!

So I'm heading to Brooklyn in a couple of weeks (February 11th) to accept the $1,000 Knight Foundation award at the Awards ceremony. We received more votes overall than most category winners did, and 42% more votes than the second place competitor in our category. My personal account on Twitter is @SarahJL, and Dave's is @QuantumGood.

The Shorty Awards competition was covered by The New York Times, The BBC, AdAge, TechCrunch, VentureBeat, MediaBistro and many others.

So Twitter got hacked. And phished.

The Twitterverse responded with it's usual self-assured je m'en fous—a sure sign it takes something much more significant than a little phishing and a few dozen hacked celebrities to threaten our Tweeple. (If Favrd went down, you'd hear some real outrage. And Zamanfou is something else entirely—although we have that too.)

It all started when I asked people on Twitter who they followed and why.

@David_N_Wilson responded “That would take an entire blog entry (maybe several?) Maybe we should organize a day for tweeting about who to follow & why,” and I wrote back “You know, I think that's a GREAT idea. We SHOULD write blog posts about who we follow and why. You're a genius!”

What is #whoandwhyIfollow ??

We came up with the hashtag #whoandwhyIfollow to track everyone's posts and tweets (just add #whoandwhyIfollow to any tweet about this topic so others can find it easily). David thought we should set a day for everyone to tweet, and started with some wonderful profiles. Most cool of all, he started Tweepleblog to profile people! (Here's his mission statement.)

Unfortunately, just as we were getting underway I had to leave town suddenly, and my free time disappeared—I hold down two radio jobs, besides teaching and performing dance and voiceover. So, keeping in mind the deadline David suggested and my lack of time, I'm going to start with a list of folks instead of individual profiles (initially the idea was to profile three people). I'm going ahead and posting this first, and adding to the descriptions later. Otherwise I'll never get it done!

The worst part of this is of course all the people I'm leaving off just to try to make it a manageable size! If you want the big list of my favorite people, start here.

Right up front are David and Mr. Tweet, since Mr. Tweet's mission is to help you find people to follow, I thought it would be appropriate to include him. Next are my family and close friends (My husband is also named David!), and following that are some Tweeple I think are special folks.

How did I choose who to mention?

Basically, these are all special people to me! But I've concentrated on mentioning people I've known the longest on Twitter, for the most part. I'm leaving off some great people that I've met only recently, since I haven't had that much time to get to know them yet.

Some are people who've done something special for me. Others I've been touched by reading their blog, or just really enjoy chatting with, on or off Twitter.

I know I'm leaving a LOT of great people off this list. Possibly I only just discovered you and there hasn't been that much time to get to know you. Or maybe it's my fault—I haven't taken the time to get to know some obviously awesome people.

Oh, and at the very bottom are my favorite funny folks!

His 100% wind powered, computer-controlled display raised over $10,200 for The Make-a-Wish Foundation in 2007 (45,000 lights on a 176 channel controller) and for 2008 it has been moved and upgraded to 150,000 lights on a 215 channel controller. He started in 2006 with an 80-channel system.

After the 2007 season, the gated community where Richard lives, by a vote of 13-11, decided to close the gates during Christmas to prevent the traffic that comes with the display. A number of people volunteered to host the display, and for 2008 the new location is 12 Denali Drive, Lindon, Utah, which is his parent’s house. It went up Dec 1 with one song to start. Video should be up by mid-December. They wrapped 20+ trees—some over 20 feet tall!

Kevin Spacey is possibly my favorite actor.

One of the things I love about him is that he doesn't watch dailies, and he chooses roles based on the story, irrespective of money, who else is involved, etc. He's an actor’s actor. He trusts what he is experiencing when he plays a role more than the words in the script and relies a lot on instinct and spontaneity.

Spacey has said in not watching dailies he has to trust the director, and that he has very rarely been let down.

Kevin Spacey: Impersonator?

Kevin is also a fabulous impersonator! If you just want to skip to the part where he shows what an incredible impersonator he is…skip to 1:30 in part 2 below. (He also does a great Christopher Walken & Walter Matthau in “Star Wars auditions”) Here is just a small sample of awards he has won:
