Interesting fact No.275: I should have been in Shed Seven’s ‘Disco Down’ promotional pop video, however I was already booked to be a body double for HRH Sarah Furguson on an american Slendertone advert!

Yes, as if it’s not enough that glam-rock band The Darkness have just announced a new tour but on top of this frontman Justin Hawkins has returned with the most finely sculpted facial hair ever witnessed! Reminiscent of bands such as Queen, Kiss and AC/DC, The Darkness are the most energetic band around today. Probably one of the best bands I have worked with (and indeed toured with) I’ll certainly be heading off to a gig or two and suggest that you do to. The Darkness are a band you really MUST see. In the meantime enjoy a few retrospective images from Brixton Academy and Backstage at Knebworth and Reading Festival.

Just over nine months ago I had a great idea for a new series of photographs – there was only one flaw in my new photographic plan though – I needed a very small child as my subject. To be more precise I needed one of those tiny little nappy wearing humans we refer to as ‘Babies’. As there didn’t seem to be any such thing as a baby hire shop, I decided I had no choice other than to grow my own and, finally, many moons later, here she is!

Taffeta Alice Cecelia ‘Photogirl’ has already posed for her first shoot at the tender age of three weeks and I’ll be revealing the fruits of this session very soon – but for now I just wanted to make it VERY clear that I won’t be doing the usual cheesy fluff-covered vomit-inducing baby photographs expected of most photographers.

Finally the latest batch of Circus of Horrors photographs have been added to my Circus Gallery – they are all inter-weaved with the old images so be sure to have a good look through! There’s a few here too to whet your appetite…

It’s not often a decent, world renowned musician comes to our sleepy seaside town, so when I noticed Badly Drawn Boy’s name in lights above the Scarborough’s Spa Theatre I presumed someone had started up a local painting class, being rather over-zealous with the class name. But no there were no murky jam jars here nor any brittle painting brushes full of cloudy powder. Just one man and his guitar (oh and his keyboard, his mouth organ and on occasion his backing band). I was really rather excited to have gained myself ten minutes of access to the man who is not only responsible for many fabulous songs which frequent the ‘favourites’ folder of my ipod but a man also responsible for penning the soundtrack to classic and lovable films such as ‘About a Boy’ and The Fattest Man in Britain’

Finally, once the sound check was over, I enticed Badly Drawn Boy aka Damon Gough into my parlour (in this instance a backstage room previously set up with my portable studio). The fruits of these ten minutes can be seen above. Damon really was a great guy. One of the best I have worked with. Considerate and chatty and very self depreciating – the very sign of a perfectionist. We are keeping in touch so watch this space and perhaps there will be more Badly Drawn Boy photography coming soon… well providing he didn’t think he was a Badly Photographed Boy that is…ok…I’m going!
