Home security is important all year round so it's time to start thinking about how you can improve yours. This latest news post gives you some great tips.

The winter is finally behind us and we’re all enjoying the lighter evenings; unfortunately, the longer hours of sunlight can have some negative effects. With more visibility in the evenings, criminals can take the opportunity to target empty homes.

Many people see security as a top priority during the winter but it is equally as important in the spring and summer. Here at Bygone Windows we specialise in the provision of high quality, highly secure windows and we’ve put together some useful tips to help you make vital improvements to your security:

1. Visible Security Features

It’s important that your home appears strong as criminals will always seek out the most vulnerable property in the area.

You may have invested in security but if it’s all hidden away, how do the criminals know that? Hidden security features are incredibly useful for detecting an unwanted intrusion but it’s more effective to prevent crime in the first place.

Visible security features will deter criminals from targeting your property as well as detect crime.

2. Secure Windows and Doors

Criminals commonly like to take the easy option. Did you know that 73% of burglars enter a property through a door or window?

Over the winter the exterior of your home will have been somewhat neglected but if your windows or doors are damaged or broken, you’re at a much higher risk of becoming a victim of a burglary.

If your windows or doors are particularly old or are damaged, it’s important that you have them replaced as soon as possible.

3. Don’t Advertise Your Home

The key to home security is to make your home seem unappealing to a criminal. Of course, you can invest in visible security features and replace your windows and doors but if you leave expensive items in full view of the outside world, you’re fighting a losing battle.

Move all laptops, phones, jewellery and money out of sight and don’t make it obvious when your home is left unattended.

Here at Bygone Windows we understand that replacing your windows can seem like a stressful job but we make things as simple as possible. If your windows are particularly old or are damaged, we urge you to contact us today and have them replaced.

This latest news post from the experts at Bygone Windows gives you all the information you'll need about the different style of sash windows that are available.

Here at Bygone Windows we specialise in the manufacture and provision of high quality sash windows to complement and enhance traditional homes. We pride ourselves on the quality of our products and the variety of styles that we offer.

We understand, however, that you may be unsure about which style of sash will best suit your home or even which style you currently have in your home. There are 3 main styles of sash window:

Georgian Sash Windows

The Georgian era was the first in which sash windows became popular across the UK. While the style of window grew in popularity and developed in later years, this is the simplest design of sash window.

Georgian sash windows use two sashes, of which one of moves and the other remains stationary and they typically feature six or more panes.

Victorian Sash Windows

The Victorians were famous for innovative designs and new thinking and this can certainly be seen in the developments made in the style and design of sash windows throughout this era.

Sash windows from the Victorian era usually include fewer panes than their Georgian counterparts with the most common number being 4-6. Many Victorian sash windows will feature a single glazing bar but later designs can include more than one.

Edwardian Sash Windows

During the Edwardian era the main developments in window design came about through the desire to let in as much light as possible. This was achieved through the use of a single, larger pane of glass as opposed to numerous smaller panes.

Edwardian windows, therefore, will commonly feature an upper sash with multiple panes and the lower will include single pane.

Here at Bygone Windows we manufacture and supply a huge range of sash window designs from multiple eras. Please click here to view our full range of sash windows designs that are available to choose from.

A traditional home can be difficult to maintain and your windows can be particularly tricky. This latest news post can help you find your perfect new windows.

We all do what we can to make our homes look as good as possible and for many people this primarily includes a quick lick of paint now and again and replacing furniture once every few years. Of course, if you live in a beautiful traditional home with a classic look, it can be difficult to maintain this appearance without sacrificing the practicality and efficiency of your home.

Here at Bygone Windows we understand that you may be reluctant to replace your home’s windows as new windows could significantly impact the appearance of your home’s exterior.

Timber Sash Windows to Complement a Classic Look

New windows these days always seem to be bright white and shiny plastic which, of course, rarely looks good on a traditional home. Bygone’s sash windows, on the other hand, are specifically designed to complement and even enhance the appearance of your home.

Our timber sash windows are manufactured to the highest standards of quality with the environment in mind at all times.

uPVC Windows Could Surprise You!

Practicality and efficiency are essential factors in your new windows but it’s vital that these factors do not mean that you forego the aesthetic features.

Our uPVC windows are highly practical, low in maintenance and highly energy efficient while our different finishes allow you to choose the appearance that complements your home. You are able to choose from an antique cream effect or white painted timber.

A classic home can be simultaneously practical, efficient and aesthetically stunning; there’s no need to put off replacing your windows!

If you would like more information about our windows then you’ll find a wealth of information on our website; alternatively, if you have any questions or queries then you’re welcome to contact us directly on 0800 0484 671. A member of our friendly and experienced team will be happy to help you with your enquiry.

As spring rolls around once again it's time for us all to start thinking about the condition of our homes. This post gives you some tips to get you started.

We can finally start to wave goodbye to the wintry weather, the gale force winds and the endless rain because spring’s on the way and there’s a chance that the sun will make an appearance soon! Unfortunately as the freezing fog begins to lift, we awake from our winter hibernation and take a look at our homes…oh dear. After a harsh winter it’s not quite looking its best!

Well, if you’re hoping to have friends and family over for early summer BBQs then you’d better get your home looking tip top; luckily, here at Bygone Windows we’ve got some top tips to help you do just that!

Lighter Shades Can Make a Room Look Bigger

If a room looks particularly small or cramped then use lighter shades on your walls to make the room appear bigger.

Natural light is reflected from lighter shades to make a space appear airy and light.

Don’t Underestimate Your Flooring

Let’s face it, if your flooring looks tatty then so will the rest of the room so make this one of your priorities. Replace or renovate your flooring and you’ll find that the whole room is uplifted.

Windows, Windows, Windows!

Your windows affect the appearance of both the inside and outside of your home so if you’re going to start anywhere on your home improvement then it should be your windows.

Your home security as well as energy efficiency relies heavily on the quality of your windows, so always opt for the highest standard available.

Here at Bygone Windows we are exceptionally proud of the quality of our windows and if you’re thinking of replacing your windows then we should be your first port of call. For more information please browse our site or get in touch with us directly on 0800 0484 671.

Unfortunately, while period homes are visually stunning, they can be severely lacking in the modern technology required to reduce energy bills and secure the property.

It’s understandable that you may be reluctant to have this new technology installed as, more often than not it can alter the property’s look. However, without making improvements to your home, you can suffer from high energy bills and become more vulnerable to unwanted criminal attention.

Here at Bygone Windows we understand that for you to upgrade your existing windows, it’s absolutely essential that the new windows do not alter the appearance of your home from either the exterior or interior.

Never settle for second best when it comes to the appearance of your windows.

Always Find an Installer That You Can Trust

If you haven’t got a quality installer that will fit your windows to the highest standards, it really won’t matter what windows you choose. The installation of your windows must not damage existing brickwork and your windows must fit seamlessly into your home.
