i just picked up a bottle of drain prep for my next empty/fill, but it suggests removing the filter before using. however it also says to circulate it overnight! my hot tub instructions warn strongly against ever running the tub without a filter in place, in fact it will invalidate my warranty. so how exactly do i use the drain prep?

i'm also curious about how to flush out the last of the old gross water from my tub before i refill. there's always a little bit in the bottom of the filter housing and i know there's stuff in the pipes i can't see... and part of why i bought the drain prep is to deal with this stuff... but how? i don't have a water vaccuum nor do i have the resources to buy anything else thanks to the pandemic... but surely there has to be a way?

during my weekly test, the ph was low so i added ph+ to bring it up. this also had the effect of boosting my total alkalinity. how do i bring the alkalinity back down?

this is the second time this has happened - the first time i just waited for it to go back down by itself, which took a couple days, but this time it's taking longer (it's still too high after 4 days) and i'm a little worried.

what's the best way to replace the lost water and rebalance? can i simply add some water from the hose as when filling and then do a test strip and balance as needed, or is there a specific process to follow?
