We changed our hot tub water after 3 months of light use because there was a funny odor to the water (wet towel, mothball smell). The new water was great but only last 2 weeks - we just did our weekly treatment of dazzle - took the lid off the water smelled great added the amaze plus and within an hour the water smelled again. Any ideas?

Foam In Hot Tub - Please Help

I am having an issue with foam in my hot tub and I was told to "shock" the water. I have a 425 gal hot tub and was told to add 5 heaping cap fulls of Amaze to the water. When I went to use the hot tub about a week later, the tub was producing more foam then before.

For regular chemicals, I keep the floating device with bromine pucks floating at all times and add 3 cap fulls of Amaze once a week.

Am I adding too much or too little chemicals or am I just doing something wrong? I understand why we have the foam, I just can't seem to get rid of it.

Thanks,
High Iron content in fill water and now a cloudy blue pool???

We live on an acreage in Saskatchewan. We used well water to fill our vinyl easy set pool (16' x 42"). Our well water is hard and has a high iron content. When I first chlorinated the water it turned brown with the oxidized iron. I went to Paradise Leisurescapes in Saskatoon to see if they could assist me in clearing up the pool.

They suggested using Stainfree and Dazzle Metal Cleanse. Initially (for the first day) this treatment appeared to work! The brown color disappeared and we were left with clear blue water!

However - a day later, the pool has turned milky blue! Their tests revealed that everything seemed to be in order, other than a somewhat low chlorine level.

I seem unable to get the chlorine level up consistently. I have added algicide, a clarifier and consistently added chlorine to no avail!

Now I've dumped a tonne of money into chemical and still have a milky blue pool - what should I do next???!!!!

Please help! I know another family in the acreage community where we live have set up a pool and are bound to have similar problems!

Dazzle Products and UV Sanitized pool

I plan on opening my pool next month. I called random Dazzle reps on the main page and they do not understand or have a clue about what I'm talking. They all just want water samples!! Duh?!

Issue: I purchased a house with a pool that has a UV Sanitizer. After reading online they are popular in the USA (70% less chemicals) but i am in the dark here on how to take care if it. The last owner said they used TriClor Tablets and weekly shock stickcs, then turn on the UV Sanitizer.

Do any Dazzle people or members here have any clue how to start my off to a care free pool? I was told about some Dazzle additive and sticks every few weeks works. Hope fully get better answers here as the Reps pushing the stuff have no clue about UV Sanitation or if its ever been tested with Ultraviolet Systems. Also, how does one check chlorine levels for a UV system if the strips and chemicals are made for conventional non UV pools.

I'm wiling to be a Guinea Pig for the company if I have positive results with the products.

Any response would be appreciated,

How Often Should I Backwash My Filter? How Long?

The Secret to Backwashing Your Filter: Backwash Longer, but Less Often!

Many pool owners backwash weekly as part of their maintenance routine. However, it’s not necessary to backwash that frequently! The ideal time to backwash is when the pressure shown on your filter gauge reaches 8-10 psi (pounds per square inch) higher than your normal running pressure.

This may sound odd, but allowing some dirt to sit in the filter sand actually helps to create rough edges so the sand can catch small debris. Backwashing too often can stir up the sand and allow small particles to pass through the filter and back into the pool.

A sand filter should always be backwashed for a minimum of 3 minutes and a maximum of 5 minutes depending on the size of the filter. Backwash for at least 3 minutes, even if the water leaving the backwash line or the water in the site glass is clear. Sometimes the filter sand will have a clear patch in it where no or very little debris has been trapped. Since the water pushes the debris from the bottom of the filter to the top of the filter, if backwashing is stopped at a clear patch, the debris underneath it forms a barrier in the sand and the filtration can no longer perform at its full potential.

Why Do Dirt and Debris Accumulate on the Bottom of My Pool?

Dirt and debris can often get trapped at the bottom of your pool if your return jets are not angled properly. Pool owners often angle the return jets upward, which creates a rippling effect and only circulates the top of the water. For optimum circulation, always ensure that the return jets are pointed downward and to the right on a 45° angle. This will help stop dirt and debris from accumulating at the bottom of your pool.

We recommend that you have your water tested once a month. Bring a 1L sample to your local Dazzle Retailer for a state-of-the-art analysis and customized prescription. You should also test your pH and chlorine/bromine on a regular basis at home.
