Planta originária da América, cultivada desde 1000 a.c. é muito peculiar pelo fenômeno que se apresenta em seu nome, o girassol acompanha o caminhar do Sol desde seu nascer até seu pôr. Sua semente é muito utilizada na fabricação de óleo menos agressivo ao organismo.
