Version 4.6.3 is released as beta, the official version is now 4.6.1.

Sites and Glossaries

Languages have now been separated into Sites and Glossaries:
Glossary contains all the language specific translations of CMS user interface strings, also those which are displayed to visitors.
Sites are independent websites within one CMS installation which can for example represent different language versions of one logical website.
Each Site is tied to one Glossary which defines the translations used for public visitors. For CMS default user interface, you do not need to create a site any more - just set the default in list of Glossaries.

Other changes

The context menu which opens from v-shaped buttons can now be set to open by mouse click or hovering. The default is by clicking. You can set it from Admin > System > Configuration > Content Editing.

The parent for links and comments can now be changed.

Currently there is no Zend Optimizer for PHP 5.3 so apps encrypted with Zend Guard like Saurus CMS do not work.

Zend has promised a new version of Zend Optimiser and Zend Guard for PHP 5.3 later this year. But there is a catch, because of compatibility problems apps encrypted with older Zend Guard versions will probably not work with PHP 5.3 (source: Zend forums). This means that even with an updated Zend Optimiser versions of the CMS released before the upcoming Zend Guard wont work with PHP 5.3.

Possible solutions will be announced later.

Version 4.6.2 is currently released as beta, the official version is now 4.6.0.

Improved galleries

The album editor has been completely rewritten removing the need to use File Manager to create a folder, upload images and later connect the folder with album. Instead, you can now just choose a name for you album and use multiple upload right from the album editor. The folder for the images is created in the background so you can later use the same files in your articles for example. Also, we added human friendly URL to albums.

Other improvements in version 4.6.2 include slight delay before opening the v-shaped context menus, automatic slash (/) after the human-friendly URLs, bug fixes and more. Please consult the whole change log for details.

What's new

The v-shaped context menus in editor's environment now work on all modern browsers and correctly position even when near to document edges. This means that although only throughly tested and supported on IE 6+ and Firefox 2+, the whole CMS should be now usable with minor bugs on other browsers as well. In contrast to clicking, the menus now open on mouse hover.

In case you are site developer, you can add translations and custom actions to any menu: read further at customising buttons. The new menu is packaged as jQuery plugin and can be downloaded and used under LGPL license freely in any other project. See the context button plugin page.

Other improvements in version 4.6.1 include saving with Ctrl-S in text editor, proxy support in license verification, bugfixes and more. Please consult the whole change log for details.

This major version includes the following enhancements:

• File manager has been completely rewritten from scratch. The new user interface is based on Ajax improving both usability and speed. It also allows multiple file upload so you can copy a whole image gallery content to your site at once if needed.
• Article editor now uses latest stable version of FCKeditor which fixes several bugs related to text editing. New features include "Show blocks" button on the toolbar to display paragraph boundaries. There's also a "Normal" selection on the style drop-down to remove H1..H4 and pre tags. As before, to remove any CSS class, you have to re-select it from the same list.
• Aliases or friendly URL-s module is now free of charge in all Saurus CMS packages. In case you have Saurus CMS Free, please upgrade to version 4.6 to start using it.
• E-mail obfuscation which was previously available as paid extension is now free and integrated to "Saurus 4" extension. It works immediately and without configuration, just upgrade your site to version 4.6
• New default page template. The default page template that ships with the installation and can be found in extension "Saurus 4" is re-written and can now be easily customized with using just CSS code.

Other improvements include redesigned login screen and admin/editor toolbars, bug-fixes and minor changes. See the whole change log or download the version update.

Updated pricelist

The euro-based pricelist has been updated and complies now with the original Estonian crown based license fees. To make package names clearer, we added „Full“ to the package previously known as „Saurus CMS“, leaving the latter for referring to the whole product family.

Add modules to base packages

As you probably know, our software comes in three fixed packages: Saurus CMS Free, Saurus CMS SE and Saurus CMS Full. We now made things more flexible by allowing you to add additional modules to Saurus CMS SE and full version to make a package with custom functionality. Check out the new pricelist for available modules. Saurus CMS Free will receive the option to add modules in upcoming version 4.6.

Alternative way of getting version updates

As alternative to the annual software assurance, you can now get updates to Saurus CMS commercial versions by paying a 40% fixed fee of the initial license cost, no matter whether you are  moving from version 3.x to 4.x or 4.5.x to 4.5.x for example.

Deprecated PowerTools package

As there are so many strong web analytics providers out there, we dropped the development of our own Statistics module which was packaged with Search & Replace and Link Verifier, called together as PowerTools. The other two modules can now be obtained individually.

The module enabling human-friendly web addresses, also known as „aliases“, now comes free of charge. Users of Saurus CMS SE can enable it by logging into the site administration tools and choosing Verify from Help > About > License. To function properly, some settings must be applied to the server configuration, please read further from How to set up aliases.

Owners of Saurus CMS Free will get free aliases with upcoming version 4.6.
