Watch models hit the runway to raise money for cancer in kids

Orlando is brimming with entertainment whatever your inclination. Most recently, fashion and fundraising are joining forces on the red carpet to raise money for children with cancer, right here in Orlando! There is no better cause to whip out your favorite, jaws will drop outfit for. Fundraising in Orlando is always a splendid affair and this event will be VIP catered, featuring big names and, of course, there will be prizes. The event, which is sure to be a crowd-pleaser, is being held on May 19^th and will be hosted at The Paramount on Lake Eola. Be sure to book your tickets ASAP.

Although hard to beat, this is not all that the area around Savannah at Park Central has to offer. The area has gyms, full service salons, luxury spas for a day of pampering and even a winery. Orlando Airport Security to Be More Loose for Some Passengers

Some passengers will be able to save time on airport security measures

Savannah at Park Central residents, we all know how things go when we reach the airport. First we go through check-in, followed by lugging our carry-ons around and then on to airport security. Does it end there? Not really. But for some, it’s about to get much easier and less time-consuming to get through security at the airport.

On Tuesday, the Transportation Security Administration will roll out a newly created PreCheck program for Orlando International Airport. The program will make the screening process easier for select travelers. So how do they decide who will be selected? It’s all about information held by the TSA.

For those who sign up for the program, security will be able to collect information about their identities and confirm the identities through other means. Those who are chosen based on this information will be able to go through expedited screening, with shoes and jackets on for domestic travelers the TSA knows the most about. This program will only be offered to Delta Air Lines passengers, with plans for more airlines to be added in the future. Passengers will be invited by Delta to sign up or indicate that they are part of certain trusted traveler programs on their reservation. These may include Global Entry, NEXUS and SENTRI.

Orange County Set to Open New Homeless Shelter

Orange County helps out the homeless through new homeless shelter

Have you heard the news, Savannah at Park Central?

Last month, county leaders voted 6-0 to focus on 2 properties for a new homeless resource center east of Orlando. Negotiations are planned to start right away with one of the site’s owners.

$1 million in grants have already been set aside for the center, but finding a location has been difficult. More than 50 potential sites have already been shot down. There is concern that more delays could come if the grant money runs out at the end of the year.

The plan for the center is for it to be a place where the homeless could do laundry, shower, get clothing and food, obtain medical care and other forms of aid. While the location hasn’t officially been secured, there are talks about using either the strip mall property on Colonial Drive or to move the Head Start program at its East Orange Service Center (also on Colonial Drive) to make room.

Sweet Things are Happening in Oviedo this Weekend

Weekend weather outlook: Marshmallow skies expected

In order to keep you tuned in about what’s going on around us, I figured I would tell you about a sweet event going on in Oviedo this weekend.

On Saturday, in anticipation of Sunday’s holiday, the city will drop thousands of marshmallows from the sky. Why marshmallows? Probably because they’re soft and can’t take an eye out; that’s my guess.

The marshmallow drop will be happening at the Oviedo Sports Complex on East Broadway on Saturday at 10 am, so if you have kids and would like to give them a sweet start to the holiday, take a drive over there. It’s a little bit of a trip from Savannah at Park Central, but if you’d like to take a day trip, it will be worth it for the kiddies.

Yes, the marshmallows are yummy, but what might excite the little ones more is the fact that they can redeem goodies for trading them in. You can also purchase refreshments during the day. Buy your tickets today and they will be only $1, or you can get them at the gate for $2.

Girl Scouts of Citrus Distribute Donated Food to Orange County Food Banks

Were any of you Savannah at Park Central residents Girl Scouts as kids? Or maybe you’re a troop leader now! Either way, I’d like to share some news that you might or might not know: The Osceola County Girl Scouts celebrate their 100^th anniversary this year!

So how are they celebrating? They will be in Old Town on Saturday to conduct a food drive. If you’re going, make sure you bring nonperishable food items sometime between 9 am and noon.

If you are one of the first 2,000 people to donate up to 49 pounds of food, you will receive an Old Town Fun Card, which provides you with discounts for shops and attractions. If you bring up to 99 pounds, you become eligible for a raffle prize drawing and if you bring more than 100 pounds, you will be entered in a drawing for the grand prize – a weekend getaway!

So what are your donations going towards? The food will be distributed to food banks in the six-county area covered by the Girl Scouts of Citrus – Orange, Osceola, Seminole, Volusia, Lake and Brevard.
