Georgia competitiveness focus of SEDA's annual meeting

There’s a reason Chris Cummiskey and Chris Clark — Georgia’s commissioner of economic development and president of the Georgia Chamber of Commerce, respectively — are sometimes referred to as “Chris squared” in state circles.

The two spent a good part of 2011 traveling the state together, bringing Gov. Nathan Deal’s Competitiveness Initiative to 12 regions and gathering input to help fine-tune a statewide economic development strategy.

Economic development on legislators' minds at Eggs & Issues breakfast

Boosting the Savannah area's and the state of Georgia's economy will be a top priority for local lawmakers when the General Assembly convenes next month.

Delegates voiced support for several economic development measures during the Savannah Area Chamber of Commerce's "Eggs & Issues" breakfast held Wednesday at the Hyatt Regency Savannah. The chamber debuts its state legislative agenda during the event and allows the local House and Senate members to speak to those issues.

SEDA eyes World Trade Center for Savannah

The original - and most-recognized - World Trade Center has been gone for nearly 10 years, its twin towers destroyed in a terrorist attack that reverberated across the globe.

But its legacy of fostering international prosperity through trade lives on in the World Trade Centers Association, a nonprofit umbrella organization with some 320 member centers in 96 countries.

Atlanta has one. Charleston, S.C., has one. Helena, Mont., has one.

It's a concept Steve Weathers, president and CEO of the Savannah Economic Development Authority, would like Savannah to explore.

Full Steam Ahead At Mitsubishi Plant

Metro Savannah unemployment falls for third straight month, to 8.4 percent

Unemployment has fallen for the third month in a row in the Savannah area, down to 8.4 percent in March from 8.7 percent in February, an area economist says.
