It seems that the majority of people are willing to pay anywhere between $200 and $300 (46%). I selected $300.

I am not a journalism/media expert but if the news of the Boston Marathon bombings yesterday is any indication, the way we consume news and handle crises has changed.

Let’s call this “full-force curation”.

As the crisis unfolded I found my self going online on my phone instead of seeking a TV to watch the news. Twitter and Reddit were my primary sources of information.

People curated and shared resources on where to donate blood and how to find a place to stay in the Boston area. Google Person Finder allowed users to search or share information about people affected by the blast. There was a Google Doc of 1,200 people (at last count) offering up their places to anyone who needed somewhere to stay in the area.

Here are 1,200 people offering up their places to anyone who needs somewhere to stay: docs.google.com/a/phel.ps/spre…

— Andrew Phelps (@andrewphelps) April 15, 2013

There was a Pastebin file showing runners who were in the area within one minute of the blast. On Reddit, users provided constant updates on the event with sources like police and EMS scanners. Users were even the first to discredit the wrong reports from the New York Post reporting 12 dead.

People from all over the country (and in this case in the Netherlands) went online and curated information in real time to provide accurate information on how to handle and respond to this crisis.

I thought they did a great job.

Edit: Here’s a Boston Marathon volunteer answering questions on Reddit.
